Abstract:Objective To investigate the differences between invasive blood pressure (IBP) and non-invasive blood pressure (NIBP) during orthopedic surgery on patients with lateral position .Methods Eighty patients undergoing orthopedic surgery were divided into four groups depending on invasive systolic blood pressure (ISBP): Group A (ISBP≤90 mmHg), Group B (ISBP 90-120 mmHg), Group C (ISBP 120-150 mmHg) and Group D (ISBP＞150 mmHg). NIBP and arterial blood pressure was monitored at the same time .NIBP and IBP values were compared by paired t -test and linear correlation analysis .Results In the left lateral position, there was no significant difference between NISBP of the healthy side and ISBP in Group A (P＞0.05).NISBPs of the healthy side in Group B , C and D were significant lower than ISBP (P＜0.05).The difference was more obvious as the blood pressure was higher .There was significant differ-ence between NIDBP of the healthy side and IDBP in Group A , B and C (P＜0.05).There was no significant difference between NIDBP of the healthy side and IDBP in Group D (P＞0.05).NISBP of the operation side was significantly lower than ISBP in Group A, B, C and D (P＜0.05).In the right lateral position, NISBP of the healthy side was significantly higher than ISBP in Group A (P＜0.05).NISBP of the healthy side was significantly lower than ISBP in Group B , C and D (P＜0.05).The difference was more obvious as the blood pressure was higher .NIDBP of the healthy side was signifi-cantly higher than IDBP in Group A (P＜0.05).There was no significant difference between NIDBP of the healthy side and IDBP in Group B, C and D (P＞0.05).NISBP of the operation side was significantly lower than ISBP in Group A , B, C and D (P＜0.05).NIDBP of the operation side was significantly lower than IDBP in Group A , B, C and D (P＜0.05).NISBP of the healthy side was significantly higher than NISBP of the operation side in Group A , B, C and D (P＜0.05).NIDBP of the healthy side was significantly higher than NIDBP of the operation side in Group A , B, C and D (P＜0.05).There was significant correlation between arterial systolic blood pressure and non -invasive systolic blood pressure of uninjured (r＝0.926, P＜0.01).There was significant correlation between arterial diastolic blood pressure and non-invasive diastolic blood pressure of uninjured (r＝0.945, P＜0.01).Conclusion There is significant corre-lation between arterial blood pressure and non -invasive blood pressure of uninjured side during orthopedic surgery in pa-tients with lateral position.Arterial blood pressure can be estimated by non -invasive blood pressure of uninjured side when ISBP is between 90 to 120mmHg.
