Study on the foval dilation in fluorescein angiography and the related factors in diabetic retinopathy

Abstract:Objective To assess the correlation between the foval dilation of the foveal avascular zone (FAZ) in fluorescein angiography and the related factors in diabetic retinopathy.Methods This study involved 64 patients (128 eyes) with diabetic retinopathy.All the eyes were examined by best corrected visual acuity,slit-lamp ophthalmoscop,fudus photography,fundus fluorescein angiography (FFA) and spectral-domain optical coherece tomography.The diameter of FAZ,the grade of maculopathy by the diameter of FAZ,the outline of FAZ and the capillary loss were measured.The correlations were analyzed.Results All 128 eyes were inrolled in the study; the average diameter of the FAZ was (604 ± 136)μm.Sperman correlation analysis showed the FAZ diameter was related to the FAZ outline(r =0.197,P =0.026) and types of macular edema(r =0.192,P =0.030) ; the outline of FAZ was related to foval capillary loss (r =0.725,P =0.000),types of macular edema (r =0.355,P =0.000),grades of diabetic retinopathy(r =0.245,P =0.005),vision acuity(r =-0.275,P =0.002) ; foval capillary loss was related to types of macular edema(r =0.326,P =0.000) and grades of diabetic retinopathy(r =0.275,P =0.002).Conclusion There is correlation between the FAZ damage and the vision acuity,types of macular edema and grades of diabetic retinopathy.
