Abstract:Residential environment is one of the most important elements for the quality of life, as well as the main support for the activities of economy, culture and society. However, the improvement of residential environmental quality also has been increasing the consumption of energy and the emission of pollutants. In this paper, first, a systematic methodology for the evaluation of sustainable residential environment is established, considering both the residential environmental quality (Q) and the residential environmental load (L). The part of Q is constructed by safety, health, amenity, convenience and community of residential environment. The part of L is about the environmental impact of the lifecycle of housing and community. Then, the region of Yangtze River Delta of China is selected as the research area, because it is the most highly-growing area of China and gives great influence on other cities. As the first part of the research, the authors performed questionnaire surveys in Hangzhou and Shanghai focusing on the residential environmental quality (Q), and analyzed the residential environmental satisfaction of people. In the next step, the study on the index part of environmental load (L) will be performed, and the weight of each factor will be determined. A desirability of the authors is to obtain the results contributing to the sustainable development and improvement of urban residential environment for the rapidly developing China.
Study on the Indicator System and Evaluation of Forest Ecosystem Services in China

Abstract:Under the guidance of the scientific,comprehensive,operational and comparative principles and based on fundamentals of forest ecology and system science,this paper puts forward that the composite index system of regional forest ecosystem service quality evaluation is composed of forest ecosystem productivity,forest ecosystem health,distribution of forest and background of eco-environmental quality.The value of forest ecosystem service quality for the provinces in China is analyzed by the method of AHP and the weighed average composite quality index.On the basis of such an analysis,cluster analysis on weighted evaluation indicators of the provinces is made.Then,the provinces are divided into 5 classes for forest ecosystem service quality.The results reveal that the fundamental spatial pattern is characterized by high levels distributed in the southeast provinces probably due to relatively higher precipitation,Then the levels rapidly decrease from the southeast provinces to the northwest provinces.

Abstract:Understanding the relationship between landscape characteristics and water quality is critically important for estimating pollution potential and reducing pollution risk. Therefore, this study examines the relationship between landscape characteristics and water quality at both spatial and temporal scales. The study took place in the Jinjing River watershed in 2010; seven landscape types and four water quality pollutions were chosen as analysis parameters. Three different buffer areas along the river were drawn to analyze the relationship as a function of spatial scale. The results of a Pearson’s correlation coefficient analysis suggest that “source” landscape, namely, tea gardens, residential areas, and paddy lands, have positive effects on water quality parameters, while forests exhibit a negative influence on water quality parameters because they represent a “sink” landscape and the sub-watershed level is identified as a suitable scale. Using the principal component analysis, tea gardens, residential areas, paddy lands, and forests were identified as the main landscape index. A stepwise multiple regression analysis was employed to model the relationship between landscape characteristics and water quality for each season. The results demonstrate that both landscape composition and configuration affect water quality. In summer and winter, the landscape metrics explained approximately 80.7 % of the variance in the water quality variables, which was higher than that for spring and fall (60.3 %). This study can help environmental managers to understand the relationships between landscapes and water quality and provide landscape ecological approaches for water quality control and land use management.

Abstract:Rural landscape evaluation being one of the basic jobs of the rural landscape planning and design,establishing an index system that includes economical value,social value,ecological value and aesthetical value of rural landscape is the fundamental task of rural landscape evaluation.Through posting problems at present and ascertaining developmental direction in the future,rural landscape evaluation offer evidence for he rural landscape planning and design.In this paper,based on the meaning and three hierarchical functions of rural landscape in suburb,an evaluation index system of rural landscape in suburb is designed.The index system includes social effects,eclolgical quality and aesthetical effects.Based on it,an integrative model was built.After such model is applied to the evaluation of landscape in five villages of Haidian District of Beijing City,some questions of the landscape were probed.

Evaluation of land eco-security based on matter element analysis

Abstract:Focusing on the problems of information shield and subjectivity of the comprehensive index evaluation in China,this paper evaluated land eco-security with the theory of matter element analysis. After analyzed the concept of land eco-security,an index system was established based on Economy-Environment-Society framework and analytic hierarchy process(AHP) . An integrated assessment model was constructed with the support of matter-element model. Then the assessment model was applied to Hebei Province. Consequently,the results indicated that the whole level of land eco-security in Hebei Province had been in improving trends that jumping to general security from critical security condition,so it was remarkable performance of environmental protection policy and measures in Hebei Province since 2004;and the indexes of cropland acreage per capita,consumption of farm pesticide and discharge standardized rate of industrial waste water were key factors limiting the level of land eco-security in Hebei Province. It is concluded that the matter element model can reveal different information of every single index,and matter element analysis is suitable for evaluating land eco-security.

Abstract:Increased urban pollution and urban life pressure have increased the importance of rural areas, especially suburban villages. To better carry out the rural landscape design work, and clarify the relationship between the various impact factors of rural landscape, carried out the study of this article. Based on the environment value-added theory, this paper established a comprehensive evaluation system of suburban rural landscapes with landscape productivity, landscape ecology, landscape life, and landscape effect as the standard layer (including 24 sub-indicators), and calculated the weight of each index. At the same time, a quantitative evaluation of Liutian village's 2016 integrated landscape was carried out. The results showed that the weight values of the four indicators in the standard layer are: landscape productivity (0.3862) > landscape ecology (0.3140) > landscape life (0.1696) > landscape effect (0.1302). The scoring percentage (the actual score divided by the weight value) of the four indicators is ranked as follows: landscape productivity (0.7258) > landscape life (0.6410) > landscape effect (0.5629) > landscape ecology (0.4456). Liutian village's final score is 0.6005, and the comprehensive landscape evaluation result is average, which can meet the basic needs of landscape users. Through the analysis of the four factors at the standard layer, the problems in the landscape of Liutian village were analyzed, and development suggestions were proposed from the aspects of industry, government, planning, and culture. This research builds a quantitative analysis system for the comprehensive evaluation of rural landscape, which has certain theoretical and practical value for the guidance and evaluation of rural planning.

Abstract:Urban ecological quality evaluation attracts more and more attention in urban land use and ecosystem planning optimization due to continuity problems from rapid urbanization and population growth. Remote sensing was always considering contribute to the evaluation. However, accurate and efficient evaluation of urban ecological quality is being challenged, as traditional remote-sensing-based methods were mainly based on low spatial resolution data, pixel-based land cover classification, and vegetation condition factors, and ignored object-oriented high spatial resolution classification and urban landscape pattern. Thus, method for urban ecological quality evaluation based on high-resolution remote sensing is greatly needed to support spatially explicit decision-making in urban planning. In this study, a novel high-resolution remote-sensing-based method based on six ecological indicators from vegetation conditions and landscape patterns was proposed to evaluate urban ecological quality. The six ecological indicators were derived from high-resolution remote sensing data using an object-oriented land cover classification. Factor analysis indicated that the sensitivity of landscape patterns to ecological quality is relatively weaken. Therefore, vegetation conditions and landscape patterns were used as two respective variables to generate a linear evaluation model, with their weights calculated from the loadings of factor analysis, to evaluation urban ecological quality. The results showed that the proposed linear model, considering both vegetation conditions and landscape patterns, is effective and trustworthy, and can provide more suitable support to urban land use and ecological planning.

Abstract:Matter-element analysis method and the theory and methods of extenics are used in the study to evaluate the agricultural land suitability comprehensively in combination with geographic Information system.Taking the suitability grade of land use,assessment indicators and their characteristic values as matter elements,this paper establishes a matter-element analysis model for agricultural land suitability assessment in Daliu town,which located in the southwest of Langfang city in Hebei province.The study results show that the matter-element analysis model can overcome the impact of human factors in the process of land use suitability evaluation to improve the assessment accuracy and operability.This model is proved to be rational,simple and practicable.Matter-element analysis method offers an objective scientific method for optimal evaluation and rational utilization of land resource.

Abstract:To improve the plant landscape in residential areas and satisfy higher demands of ecological life,a scientific and reasonable landscape evaluation had been explored to evaluate plant landscape in 15 residential areas in Hangzhou.AHP evaluation model as a synthetical assessment on three functions is used and established,which includes seasonal visual quality,phytocoenosium landscape feature and service functions.The study is mainly based on surveys,which provides objective statistics to improve the accuracy of the evaluation construction and result.The final result demonstrates that people comparatively paid more attention to phytocoenosium landscape feature than other two functions.Besides,this paper analyzes the cause of some present landscape problems like lacking seasonal characteristics and satisfactory service functions.

Abstract:After analyzing affer analyzing the complexity of the interaction among the effecting quality and evalilation of agriculture environment and the sense difference of different residents,membership function of each evaluation index and mathematical model of multi-level fuzzy comprehensive evaluation were established by theory and method of fuzzy math.Taking Yancheng city as an example,the agricultural environment of Yancheng was evaluated comprehensively.The results showed that Yancheng agricultural environment was generally good,but still existed some environmental problems.And at last some suggestions and countermeasures on the agricultural environmental management were put forward.

Abstract:At present,the research on environmental evaluation for land in China is seldom reported.Based on the foreign experience about environmental evaluation of land,the authors took the city of Hangzhou as an example,and then applied the land environmental evaluation in land planning,and finally gave some suggestions on land use in China.In this paper,the authors chose biodiversity,content of underground water,content of soil organic matter,topography,atmosphere environment quality as evaluation factors.According to the weighting coefficients of evaluation factors in environmental evaluation,the environment sensitive area of Hangzhou was divided into three parts based on GIS technique.Finally,the selection of indices in land environmental evaluation,policy-making,ex ante appraisal and ecological recovery,etc.,for Hangzhou city were suggested.

Abstract:Abstract This paper evaluates the potential eco-environment of Longzhong Loess Plateau by using the principal component analysis with GIS software Arc/info. Firstly, found the Digital Environmental Model (DEM) which consists of seven influential factors to the potential eco-environment of the study area; secondly, perform principal component analysis to the second class indexes to obtain the first class indexes—terrain indexes, soil indexes, and eco-climate indexes; get the potential eco-environment index in the same way. There are many methods that could be used to evaluate eco-environment, such as AHP (The Analytic Hierarchy Process), but most of them are subjective. The principle component analysis not only extracts a fewer factors from many influential factors, but also provides the weights of the principal components to avoid the subjectivity of the experts.

Abstract:Urbanization is considered high priority in China. The present study focuses on a novel Geographical Information System-based approach to quantitatively assess the geo-environmental conditions for sustainable land-use development of an urban area. Fuzzy theories with analytic hierarchy processes are the most commonly used tools for land-use suitability evaluation. In fuzzy theories, a pattern recognition model is one of the tiny minority of models which can quantify the result. However, the key challenge is to provide each influencing factor with a quantitative value and selecting an approriate model to calculate the site’s adaptability for different infrastructures. The present study first proposes an approach coupling geostatistical analysis with three-dimensional visualizing technology to establish a reliable geological structural and high-precision informative geotechnical model to comprehensively understand the subsurface conditions of the research area. Then, an approach which uses an improved fuzzy pattern recognition method combining reliable geotechnical parameters to evaluate the geological environment is conducted. The weighting of each influencing factor in the final result is determined by an analytic hierarchy process. Finally, a zoning map of site adaptability is formed in the Geographical Information System for guiding land-use development. The study area is one of the most promising areas for urban and economic as well as airport developments in China, which is located on the northeast of Capital Beijing. This area may face several geo-environmental problems that will limit its suitability for infrastructure projects. The resultant models demonstrate the appropriate application of the presented methodologies. The quantified evaluation of the geo-environment could be combined with other conditions to provide decision-makers with improved reasonable land-use suitability scenarios.
Land Use Suitability Evaluation Based on GIS and Matter-Element Model

Abstract:The study uses matter-element model to carry out the theory and practice research of land use suitability evaluation. First, the study sets up the matter-element model for the land use suitability evaluation. The Evaluation steps are the following: (1) select the various factors sets of land use suitability evaluation. (2) Identify the sutra fields and controlled fields of various factors. (3) Make sure the actual value of assessment unit. (4) Calculate the relating degree. (5) Evaluate the suitability levels of land use types. Using the group AHP method, the weights of the evaluation units are decided. Using the overlay space analysis method, the value of various factors is made certain. Then, the paper takes Sanhe city of Hebei province as an example to make the empirical study supported by ArcGIS. There are 153 evaluation unit in Sanhe city. The study results show that: the matter-element model can overcome the impact of human factors in the process of land use suitability evaluation to improve the assessment accuracy and operability. The agriculture and construction suitability evaluation results reflect the actual situation in Sanhe City.

Abstract:With the advancement of China's urbanization process, China's villages and small towns also begin to face a series of challenges such as ecological environment destruction, population outflow and aging. In order to better deal with these challenges, Zhejiang province issued the “Interim Measures for the Assessment and Acceptance of Environmental Comprehensive Improvement Actions in Small Towns in Zhejiang Province”. The document provides detailed environmental assessments of villages and small towns, but lacks economic and social assessments. This study introduced the performance evaluation system of landscape, it focuses on the sustainable development of the thought and the advantage of quantitative evaluation system, combined with“Interim Measures for the Assessment and Acceptance of Environmental Comprehensive Improvement Actions in Small Towns in Zhejiang Province”, to build a strong comprehensive evaluation index system. Then, the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) and fuzzy comprehensive evaluation method (FCE) are used to draw the conclusion. In this way, the direction of key construction in the next step of rural and small town development can be clarified to achieve better development of this region.

Abstract:This paper discussed the evaluation theory and method of landscape ecological quality(LsEQ) from angle of land ecology.LsEQ is the ability of landscape eco-system to maintain self-stability of structure and function.So,assessment standard of LsEQ is defined to be the stability of landscape eco-system which lies on the contrast of interior stabilization degree and exterior ecological disturbance degree of landscape eco-system.In this paper,demonstration study has been made in Wujiang County.Evaluation result showed that, grades of LsEQ of Wujiang County show the sequence for different space locations in the following order: southwest>northeast.Evaluations result accorded with the fact and showed that this evaluation method has some feasibility.Research on evaluation of LsEQ has important meaning to land ecological management and sustainable land use.
Assessment of Ecosystem Service Quality and Its Correlation with Landscape Patterns in Haidian District, Beijing

Abstract:Landscape architecture with urban green space as the main research object is an evidence-based science. It is an important issue to optimize green space systems from the point of view of ecosystem services. In this paper, high-resolution (1.5 m resolution) remote sensing images are combined with data-processing software, such as ENVI, ArcGIS, and Fragstats, to evaluate ecosystem service quality and compute the landscape pattern in the Haidian District (Beijing, China), so that the relationship between the ecosystem service quality and landscape pattern can be quantitatively studied and a strategy can be provided for green space optimization in cities. The following conclusions are drawn: (1) for the evaluated quality of 14 ecosystem services in Haidian District (refer to Section Analysis of the Association of the Percentage of Patches (PLAND) Index of Forest Land and Quality of Ecosystem Service in Haidian District). Forest land is the main provider of the ecosystem service in Haidian District, while construction land only provides cultural services; (2) on the whole, the spatial distribution of the ecosystem services in Haidian District gradually decreases from the west to the east, which basically matches with the spatial distribution of the forest land. The regulating service and supporting service are matched with the distribution of the urban green space. The cultural service is closely associated with history resource points; and (3) the analysis results of the association between landscape pattern and ecosystem service quality show that the percentage of patches (PLAND) index for forest land has a significant logarithmic relationship with the regulating service and supporting service. The critical value of the PLAND index is 30. Besides the Xishan area with the most coverage of forest land, the landscape shape index (LSI) of the brushwood has a logarithmic relationship with the ecosystem service quality. The critical value of the LSI value is 50. Finally, this paper proposes an area optimization strategy of green space in Haidian District from the view of the ecosystem system service. The Xishan area is classified into the ecosystem red line to control city expansion. The regulating and supporting services can be enhanced in the north flat area by improving the patch shape index. The ecosystem service capabilities can be improved by adding the forest land in the existing green space for the southeast urban areas.

Abstract:Agricultural landscapes along with shelterbelts,roads and ditches have been vital targets for land consolidation and rural engineering projects.Assessment of these factors has been useful in understanding the functions,quality and interrelations within agricultural landscapes.This study focused on the key factors of agricultural landscape.It used the Analytic Hierarchy Process and Semi-Quantitative Fuzzy Evaluation Method as well as field surveys to assess agricultural landscapes in the plain areas of three districts of Beijing — Tongzhou,Shunyi and Daxing.The results showed that:1) The quality of agricultural landscapes in the plain areas of Beijing were medium level with no significant differences among the three districts.2) Significant differences existed among the four agricultural landscape elements with high scores for roads and ditches,medium scores for farmlands and low scores for shelterbelts.3) Based on correlation coefficient analysis,shelterbelts and roads were more important than ditches in terms of overall farmland quality.Field survey showed that because of lack of consideration for ecological and landscape functions of agricultural landscape in current land consolidation systems and similar rural projects,there were low plant diversity in shelterbelts and green vegetation,low openness of farmlands,over hardened roads,and water pollution in ditches.These constituted the main problems of agricultural landscape in the plain area of Beijing,which required more attention in future on rural and agricultural engineering projects.
Evaluation of Municipal Territorial Utilisation Quality in New-Type Urbanisation: A Case Study of Changzhou, China

Abstract:Urbanisation in China has caused drastic changes in territorial utilisation patterns, and human-land conflict has become increasingly prominent. It is therefore urgent to investigate territorial utilisation quality. This study researched the evaluation of municipal territorial utilisation quality in Changzhou, a rapid urbanising city. By interpreting new-type urbanisation goals, five evaluation criteria (planning coordination, intensive efficiency, ecological civilisation, living suitability, and infrastructure sharing) were reorganised and an evaluation indicator system was constructed. A principal component analysis-analytic hierarchy process comprehensive weighting method was used for gridded multi-element overlay evaluation, and an evaluation model for territorial utilisation quality was established. Evaluation results showed that Changzhou’s planning coordination and living suitability levels were generally high, but numerous areas had a low level of infrastructure sharing. Changzhou’s overall territorial utilisation quality was relatively high, with Zhonglou exhibiting the highest quality level. High-and low-level areas exhibited good spatial matching with the actual development zones with different development levels. The direction for criterion optimisation can be figured out through the conceptual model for the territorial utilisation quality promotion. Moreover, the evaluation results can provide pertinent guidance in territorial spatial planning such as the delineation of urban development boundary and ecological red line.
