Abstract:Bamboo fibers were treated by solution of NaOH, Na2SiO3 and NaHSO3 with different concentration, and then were reinforced with polyvinyl chloride (PVC). Comparison tests were conducted on mechanical properties and thermal stability of these bamboo fiber reinforced PVC composite. The results showed that the modified bamboo fiber distributed more evenly in PVC composites, and the interfacial compatibility of bamboo fiber and PVC increased. Tensile strength, modulus of elasticity and modulus of rupture(MOR) of tested composites increased first, then decreased, with the increase of concentration of solutions(0.5%, 1%, 2%, 5% and 10%). Tested composites with fiber treated with 5% of Na2SiO3 had the maximum tensile strength, that with fiber treated with 2% of NaOH had the maximum MOR, and that with fiber treated with 5% of NaOH had the maximum modulus of elasticity. Experiments demonstrated that tested composites with fiber treated with solution of pH between 13.3 and 13.5 had the maximum tensile strength, MOR and modulus of elasticity had tensile strength.
