Abstract:The scientificity and practicality of evaluation methods and inspection technologies for cocoon quality is directly related to whether good-price-for-good-cocoon policy can be implemented so as to improve raw cocoon quality. In this review,we briefly introduced the evaluation methods of cocoon quality used in Japan,Brazil,India and South Korea,and summarized the changes of cocoon quality evaluation methods and the research progress on new inspection technologies in China,including non-destructive inspection,fluorescence mass analysis,infrared spectroscopy,and cocoon edge imaging etc. Based on practicality assessment of present evaluation methods,it is proposed that to implement scientific,fast,and simple inspection for cocoon quality is essential during cocoon purchase.

The main results including silkworm pupa polysaccharide, protein and oil, and silkworm pu?pa can also be applied in fields such as absorbent material, bioreactor and animal feed. An Experiment on Drying,Cooking and Reeling Cocoons of Ultrafine Filament

Abstract:In order to produce high-quality raw silk of ultrafine size,various treatments were tested to dry,cook and reel raw cocoons of ultrafine filament whose single yarn size was about 1. 1 dtex. Based on the reeling data,appropriate major process condition for drying cocoons was: primary drying at 90 ℃ for 90 min and a range of long pile back for 12 h,second drying from 90 ℃ down to 75 ℃ evenly and maintaining at 75 ℃ for 120 min. That for cooking cocoons was: high temperature permeating stage at 95 ℃,low temperature permeating stage at 55 ℃,steaming stage at 95 ℃,finishing stage at 80 ～ 90 ℃,guarded exit stage at 50 ℃,and cooking time 7 min. That for reeling cocoons was: the collection device with magnetic eye aperture at 60 ～ 70 μm,croisure length about 14 cm,end-groping temperature at 90 ℃ ± 3 ℃,reeling water temperature at 36 ℃ ± 3 ℃,flow rate at 700 mL /min ± 100 mL /min,reeler speed about 80 ～ 100 r /min,and manual fixed-cocoon-number end feeding. The results indicated that drying cocoon with lower temperature and longer time and steaming cocoon with lower temperature and shorter time are favorable to improve the reelability of cocoons and cleanness and neatness of raw silk. Lower reeler speed,high end-groping temperature and higher reeling water temperature are favorable to increase reelability of cocoons. Turning the reeler's automatically sensed fixed-filament-size end feeding into manual fixed-cocoon-number end feeding,using small aperture magnetic eye collection device,and setting longer croisure length are favorable to enhance quality of the raw silk.

Abstract:The present study was to research the scale production technology of ultrafine cocoon of single yarn size of1.0 dtex. The results indicated that the "Chao Xi Su" was dissolved in water at temperature above 85 ℃ to prepare 1250times or 2500 times induce liquid, the induce liquid at a weight ratio of 1:5 was fully wetted on mulberry leaves, contin uously feeding the drug leaves on newly third-exuviated silkworms above 25 ℃ for 24 h or 48 h to induce trimolter,hand-pick mature silkworm on centipede-type mountage of straw rod length of 30 cm or plastic folding mountage of the4.5~5.0 cm at crest s and 5.6~6.0 cm at crest height to cocooning. It was the best scale production technology of ultra fine size cocoon.

Abstract:In this study,the theory of scope economy was applied to explain the essence of diversified utilization of sericultural,cocoon and silk resources and to analyze its development situation,existing problems and causes according to the survey data in 94 counties (cities or areas) and 93 companies from 16 provinces (autonomous regions or municipalities) in China.Based on the analyses,the main directions and strategic choices were proposed for diversified utilization of sericultural,cocoon and silk resources in China.Our analyses revealed that the essence of diversified utilization of sericultural,cocoon and silk resources was to make full use of material,organismal and cultural resources in the industrial chain of sericulture so as to implement scope economy and improve comprehensive economic benefits of the industry.Although the output value of diversified utilization of sericultural,cocoon and silk resources has been increased continuously in the past decade,and the diversification trend has appeared in sericultural industry,there are still many problems such as small scale of production,unclear leading industry,low degree of industrialization,and insufficient development of market demand.Its main reasons were the lack of recognition,ineffective publicity,insufficient openness,and insufficient technological support etc.For future development of diversified utilization of sericultural,cocoon and silk resources,it was proposed to expand circular economy,promote complementary industry development,develop high value-added and high-tech products,and promote silk ecological cultural tourism etc,and to publicize integrally,adjust measures for practical conditions,marketize scientific and technological achievements,and establish new system of sericultural industry etc.Implementation of the above development guidelines and strategies will lead to more efficient and more diversified utilization of sericultural,cocoon and silk resources in sericulture and silk industry.

Abstract:Silkworm eggs are the most basic production material for sericultural production.They are also an important carrier of sericultural scientific and technological progress.The stability and development of silkworm eggs industry is an important basis for implementation of sustainable development of sericulture.Through analyzing the history and current status of China's silkworm eggs production's scale and regional distribution,market supply and demand,production technology and efficeincy,management and administrative system in recent 20 years,it was found that there were a series of problems in silkworm eggs production and management including excessive productivity,regional segmentation,small business scale,research and production disconnected,and low privatization degree.It was suggested to reform and improve the management and administrative system so as to increase degrees of marketization,privatization,business scale,integration,and standardization of silkworm eggs industry.
Construction and Quantitative Analysis on the Production Function of Sericulture in China

Abstract:A Cobb-Douglas production function was employed to construct the production function of sericulture which was further used to conduct quantitative analysis on the statistical data of sericultural production from 1991 to 2009 in China to explore the effects of land,labor,capital,and amount of silkworm eggs for distribution on the production of sericulture.In addition,the impact of technology improvement on sericultural production was comparatively analyzed between Zhejiang Province and Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.It comes to the conclusion that the influence of labor and land input on China's sericultural production has weakened gradually,while capital input and technology improvement has become the main factors that promoted the growth of sericultural production in China.Technology of sericultural production in Zhejiang Province was more advanced and thus its unit land output level and quality of silkworm eggs were higher than Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.Therefore,it is suggested that to stabilize production scale,increase capital input,speed up scientific and technological progress,and improve production efficiency are the general directions for future sericultural production in China.Specifically,the eastern sericultural regions should keep mulberry gardens and stabilize the production bases of high quality silkworm cocoons,while the western sericultural regions should speed up scientific and technological progress so as to increase efficiency of sericultural production.
Scale Production of Ultrafine Size Cocoon in Yongkang

Abstract:Scale production of ultrafine size cocoon were developed in Yongkang sericulture area. The results indicated that the induction rate of ultrafine size trimolting silkworm were more than 99%. Duration for all instars of ultrafine size trimolting silkworm were 21.19 d, shortened about 5.56 d than the normal 4th molting silkworm. Amount of leaves for all instars of ultrafine size trimolting silkworm were 39.98% of the normal 4th molting silkworm. Converted yield and output value of ultrafine size trimolting silkworm increases 10.19% and 31.9% than the normal 4th molting silkworm respectively. Ultrafine size cocoon have good reelability and silk quality, can be reeled to 6A raw silk. The keys of ensuring high induction rate of ultrafine size trimolting silkworm were tim drug in optimum time and dosage. Production of ultrafine size cocoon have high economic benefits, and can ease labor conflicts.

Abstract:The research and development of fine size silk as representative of special silk variety,and its products are being concerned by lots of scholars at home and abroad,which have achieved positive progresses.Using the induction of trimolter by anti-juvenile hormone analogs and the breeding of fine size silkworm variety,the fine size silk of about 2.0 D(2.222 dtex) and its special products received by the market were developed.The ultrafine size silk of about 1.0 D(1.111 dtex) were developed by using "superfine plain" to change the moultinism of silkworm,and its products have good characteristics as unique luster and flavor,anti-wrinkle,excellent stainability,high efficiency etc.,showing the good development and utilization value.

Abstract:By analysising the influences of different cocooning frames and cocooning frame environment on silk quality of colorful cocoon silkworm variety Qiufeng × huang3,we found that in natural ventilation and closed environment the paper cocooning frame were all better than centipede cocooning frame in the the single cocoon length,length of non-broken filament,reelability,cleanness and neatness.The reelability in different environment increased by 6.6% and 5%,respectively.Using paper cocooning frame and centipede cocooning frame the silk quality was higher in natural ventilation than in closed environment.The reelability even increased by 11.4% and 9.8%,respectively.The raw silk rate of fresh cocoon improved 3.5% and 5.2%,respectively.Moreover,the cleanness and neatness of silk were also improved.

Abstract:Cotton (Gossypium spp.) is an economically important crop that is grown throughout the world. It is the main material in textile and the main economic resource for more than 100 millions of cotton farmers in China. Due to its main role in our economy, cotton biotechnology has been significantly improved in the last decades in China, which led to a significantly progress both in cotton research and production. Cotton biotechnology started from 1970's in China has been improved greatly in various aspects such as tissue culture, protoplast culture and somatic hybridization, and recombination technology or gene engineering. In this paper, the cotton biotechnology status in China has been taken into account by keeping in view the work done by Chinese scientist, especially in cotton somatic culture, cotton protoplast culture and somatic hybridization, and transgenic cotton with insect resistance, diseases resistance and fiber quality improvement in China.

Abstract:Through questionnaire survey,the demand and tendency for style,design,color and performance of silk garments of various groups of consumers with different ages,sexes,and years of schooling,occupation are analyzed.Regarding the development of silk fabrics,suggestions are given such as reinforcing product research and development,use of multiple and practical technologies,innovations in design,color,pattern,art and style,accurate market positioning,raising the level of designers.It is supported by successful cases,providing references for the development,design,production and management of silk fabrics.The paper points out that re-development of silk fabrics is necessary for guiding consumers′ behavior,making it brilliant again,and realizing China creation.
