Abstract:Let D be a subset of a normed space X and T: D --> X be a nonexpansive mapping. Given a sequence {x(n)} in D and two real sequences {t(n)} and {s(n)} satisfying(i) 0 less than or equal to t(n) less than or equal to t < 1 and Sigma(n=1)(infinity) t(n) = infinity(ii) 0 less than or equal to s(n) less than or equal to 1 and Sigma(n=1)(infinity) s(n) < infinity,(iii) x(n+1) = t(n)T(s(n)Tx(n) + (1 - s(n))x(n)) + (1 - t(n))x(n), n = 1,2,3,...,we prove that if {x(n)} is bounded, then lim(n-->infinity) parallel to Tx(n) - x(n) parallel to = 0. The conditions on D, X, and T are shown which guarantee the weak and strong convergence of the Ishikawa iteration process to a fixed point of T. (C) 1996 Academic Press, Inc.
