Abstract:Dendrobium Sw.,known as one kind of valuable medicinal herb,are widely used in pharmaceuticals and health products.Under natural conditions,medical Dendrobium endophytes can promote the seedling growth rate,enhance biological resistance and induce synthesis of secondary metabolites.Moreover,medical Dendrobium endophytes can accelerate the growth rate and ensure survival of transplanting.In this paper,the biodiversity of endophytes and the relationship between endophytes and medical Dendrobium were overviewed,and the application of the endophytes was prospected.

Abstract:With the increasing demand for medicinal plants and the increasing shortage of resources, improving the quality and yield of medicinal plants and making more effective use of medicinal plants has become an urgent problem to be solved. During the growth of medicinal plants, various adversities can lead to nutrient loss and yield decline. Using traditional chemical pesticides to control the stress resistance of plants will cause serious pollution to the environment and even endanger human health. Therefore, it is necessary to find suitable pesticide substitutes from natural ingredients. As an important part of the microecology of medicinal plants, endophytes can promote the growth of medicinal plants, improve the stress tolerance of hosts, and promote the accumulation of active components of hosts. Endophytes have a more positive and direct impact on the host and can metabolize rich medicinal ingredients, so researchers pay attention to them. This paper reviews the research in the past five years, aiming to provide ideas for improving the quality of medicinal plants, developing more microbial resources, exploring more medicinal natural products, and providing help for the development of research on medicinal plants and endophytes.

Abstract:During the last 30 years, plant endophytes deserve more attention around the world although its definition still remains confused and controversy. In this review, major historic events in endophyte researches and their scientific significances were discussed. Scientists firstly focused on special roles of endophytic fungi within woody plants and Gramineae plants. After anticancer natural product taxol was found to be produced by a plant endophytic fungus in 1993, biologically active metabolites were widely screened from plant endophytic microbes in many countries. Though comparing and contrasting the 350 微生物学通报 Microbiol. China 2015, Vol.42, No.2 http://journals.im.ac.cn/wswxtbcn endophytes from different tissues of annual grasses, perennial grasses, woody plants and vine plants, common and specific properties of these endophytes were reviewed. The tendency of researches on endophytes were revealed. Plant endophytes contributed a lot to the total amount of microbe species on the earth. This review pointed that “the real situation of plants in the nature were microbes-plants symbiota”. Therefore, plant breeding were actually improvement of microbes-plants symbiota. Finally, the influences of endophytes on the ecology, biology, microbial evolution, species formation, plant-endophyte co-metabolism, plant protection, animal husbandry, veterinary science, forestry and some other fields were also discussed. Endophyte researches exhibit another view of microbial resources, significant impacts should be observed in many areas. The significance of endophytes not only rely on their niche, the ecological characterics, but also the synergism between endophytes and their hosts, resulting some new functions and new metabolites due to the co-metabolism and interactions.

Abstract:Endophytic fungi, as a kind of fungi living in the healthy plant tissues and organs, are important sources of natural bioactive products and new microbial resources with high developing value. Therefore, exploration and utilization of endophytic fungi can not only alleviate the problems of resource shortage and ecological balance destruction caused by extracting large number of useful bioactive products from natural plants, but also benefit the protection of rare and endangered plant resources, which is of great significance and economic value. This review mainly expounds the concept of endophytic fungi, analyzes the research advances of endophytic fungi from antioxidant, antibacterial, insecticidal, regulating plant growth, anticancer and antitumor bioactivities and, furthermore, summarizes the existing problems in present research of endophytic fungi and corresponding solutions. We hope that this review could provide references for the development and utilization of endophytic fungi and their bioactive metabolites.

Abstract:Abstract: Countless microbes live in the bodies of animals and plants. Plant growth is aided by the interaction between microbes and plants. They can be used as bio-fertilizers because of their nutrient intake and nitrogen-fixing capacity. These bacteria produce important metabolites and secondary metabolites that can be used to treat cancer and other chronic human diseases. They play a key role in the decomposition of heavy metals in the soil. In other words, they have a positive impact on agriculture, medicine, biotechnology, and food science. Plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) are commonly used to improve the growth of a wide range of crops, such as seed germination, plant weight, and harvest yields. Plant development is triggered by PGPR colonization because bacteria produce plant hormones such as indole-3-acetic acid, cytokinin, and gibberellins, as well as enhanced mineral and nitrogen availability in the soil. They are also known to defend their host plants from harmful bacteria in some cases. The role of PGPR in connection to medicinal plants and their impact on the development of botanicals is an area where there is still a lot of research to be done. This review highlights the potential PGPR–medicinal plant interactions that could boost the medicinal plant's effectiveness, particularly in farmed plants. Abstract:Endophytic fungi or endophytes exist widely inside the healthy tissues of living plants, and are important components of plant micro-ecosystems. Over the long period of evolution, some co-existing endophytes and their host plants have established a special relationship with one and another, which can significantly influence the formation of metabolic products in plants, then affect quality and quantity of crude drugs derived from medicinal plants. This paper will focus on the increasing knowledge of relationships between endophytic fungi and medicinal plants through reviewing of published research data obtained from the last 30 years. The analytical results indicate that the distribution and population structure of endophytes can be considerably affected by factors, such as the genetic background, age, and environmental conditions of their hosts. On the other hand, the endophytic fungi can also confer profound impacts on their host plants by enhancing their growth, increasing their fitness, strengthening their tolerances to abiotic and biotic stresses, and promoting their accumulation of secondary metabolites. All the changes are very important for the production of bioactive components in their hosts. Hence, it is essential to understand such relationships between endophytic fungi and their host medicinal plants. Such knowledge can be well exploited and applied for the production of better and more drugs from medicinal plants.

Abstract:Medicinal plants are important bio-resources for human existence and development. Endophytic actinobacteria with rich biodiversity, widely existing inside the tissues of medicinal plants, are important components of plant micro-ecosystems, and some can produce same or similar bioactive substances generated by their host plants. Therefore, utilizing endophytic actinobacteria to produce bioactive substances with antimicrobial and antitumor effects can not only provide a new way for the development of new drugs, but also effectively protect the endangered medicinal plant resources. Furthermore, this process has important ecological significance and economic value. In this review, research advances on the diversity of endophytic actinobacteria, genes related to natural product biosynthesis, and diversity of their natural bioactive substances are summarized, and a reference for the research of endophytic actinobacteria from the medicinal plants is provided.

Abstract:Endophytes are great resources, with potential application prospect. The industrial productions of bioactive substances that make use of endophytic fungi are capable of increasing their yields. In the meantime, it is conductive to the conservation of precious and endangered medicinal plants and it is also very important in avoiding the damage to the diversity of wild medicinal plants. The general situation and recent advances on the endophyte and its secondary metabolites researches focused on medicinal plants were summarized. It mainly reviews the researches of the secondary metabolites produced by endophytic fungus including antimicrobial, antineoplastic, antioxidative and other functional bioactive substances. In addition, endophyte can promote the yields of secondary metabolites produced by its host medicinal plants. Besides it also plays an important role in the biotransformation of some natural products. Then the mechanism in which endophytes can synthesize bioactive substances similar to the secondary metabolites produced by host plants is investigated. Finally, the problem and prospect of endophytic fungi research were discussed and previewed.

Abstract:Plants benefit extensively from endophytic bacteria, which live in host plant tissues exerting no harmful effects. Bacterial endophytes promote the growth of host plants and enhance their resistance toward various pathogens and environmental stresses. They can also regulate the synthesis of secondary metabolites with significant medicinal properties and produce various biological effects. This review summarizes recent studies on the relationships between bacterial endophytes and medicinal plants. Endophytic bacteria have numerous applications in agriculture, medicine, and other industries: improving plant growth, promoting resistance toward both biotic and abiotic stresses, and producing metabolites with medicinal potential. Their distribution and population structure are affected by their host plant’s genetic characteristics and health and by the ecology of the surrounding environment. Understanding bacterial endophytes can help us use them more effectively and apply them to medicinal plants to improve yield and quality.
