Abstract:Organic light-emitting transistors (OLETs), as novel and attractive kinds of organic electronic devices, have gained extensive attention from both academia and industry. The unique device architectures can simultaneously combine the electrical switching functionality of organic field-effect transistors and the light generation capability of organic light-emitting diodes in a single device, thereby holding great promise for reducing the complicated processes of next-generation pixel circuitry. This review involves the design, fabrication, and applications of OLETs with a comprehensive coverage of this field with the aim to give a deep insight into the intrinsic mechanisms of devices. Challenges and future prospects of OLETs are also discussed.
Progress of Increasing the Efficiency of Organic Electroluminescent Thin Film Device Using Organic Phosphorenscent Materials

Abstract:Since the invention of organic light-emitting diodes(OLEDs) by Dr. CW Tang in 1987, researches in related fields have been developed rapidly. Now, small to medium size OLED displays have already been commercialized. Large OLED TVs and OLED lightings have also emerged in real applications. The further development of the OLED technology calls for intensive research on organic light-emitting materials and devices. This report reviewed the most focused issues as well as the main progress in the field of OLEDs in the recent years. It is shown that researchers have paid attentions to both technical innovations and theoretical researches, such as the design of new molecules, developing of new device technology, and understanding of light-emitting and transporting mechanisms of organic semiconductors.The developing trends of organic light-emitting materials and devices are summarized as follows: 1) molecular design for high performance phosphorescent materials; 2) novel fluorescent materials and their light emitting mechanisms; 3) new technologies for high performance white OLEDs; 4) new technologies for solution-processed devices and flexible devices; 5) the influences of molecular packing, disorder and doping on the charge transporting properties of organic semiconductors. Moreover, the current situations and developing trends of international OLED display and lighting industries are discussed.

Abstract:Organic light emitting device research has developed during the past 40 years, especially in the last decade, organic light emitting devices have been extensively studied due to its desired properties. OLED possessed other significant advantages, such as low thickness, light weight, low fabrication cost, low power loss, better vision, fully solid state, self-luminous, low driving voltage (3-12V) and compatible with flexible substrates etc. OLED have gained tremendous attention from industry and academia because of the potential to replace current display technologies. First, we review the history of the field of OLED and discuss the current development trends, some common organic materials have been simply introduced. Then a detailed review on the structure of the devices, the luminous mechanism, especially fabrication methods of full-color display as well as the fabrication crafts has been done in this paper.

Abstract:Organic light-emitting diodes ( OLEDs) are solid state light emitting devices. They have broad prospects in the field of wearable devices owing to their flexibility nature, low driving voltage and low power consumption. Small to medium size OLED displays have already been commercialized. Large OLED TVs and OLED lightings have also emerged in real ap-plications. We review the most focused issues as well as the main progress in the field of flexible OLED technology in the recent years. The developing trends of flexible substrate material, flexible thin film transistor material, flexible OLED emit-ting layer and flexible thin film encapsulation layer are summarized. We also introduce some emerging flexible device fabri-cation technologies, such as flexible fabric substrate, polymer fibre based light emitting cell, the symmetric panel stacking device structure and slot-die coating technology. Lastly, we look to the prospect of the flexible OLED materials and devices technology.

Abstract:The development history, structure, working characteristics, methods of getting color display of OLED and its advantages/disadvantages, developing situation and trend have been reviewed. The performances of low molecular OLED and high molecular PLED, OLED and LCD have been compared in detail. Particularly the display principle of OLED was described in detail. Moreover, the structure of passive driving circuit and active driving circuit were summarized, and it is considered that the active driving OLED would be the terminal results. Finally, the development status of OLED both at home and abroad is described.

Abstract:Organic light-emitting diode (OLED) is an emerging technology of organic electronics that exhibits an assortment of salient and attractive features like self-emitting ability, great flexibility, true dark tone, transparency and many more. Along with display applications, OLEDs are prudent for light detection-based applications. Enormous research work has been reported to refine the OLED technology in terms of structures, materials, performance parameters, lifetime and applications. There is a vast scope for developing white OLED devices for utilization in solid-state lighting applications. This review paper summarizes recent advancements in different aspects for OLEDs over the last decade. The main focus is to diversify different multilayer structures of OLEDs highlighting the role and significance of charge injection, charge transport, emission and blocking layers. Also, a timeline analysis for characteristics parameters, layer-wise materials and fabrication techniques is presented. Further, different performance improvement techniques based on layers, parameters and colour emission are demonstrated. This article also illustrates prudent applications based on organic thin-film transistor-driven OLED, sensors, military and healthcare. Some challenges and reliability issues are also discussed with a scope for future work for OLED.

Abstract:Organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) have rapidly progressed in recent years due to their unique characteristics and potential applications in flat panel displays. Significant advancements in top-emitting OLEDs have driven the development of large-size screens and microdisplays with high resolution and large aperture ratio. After a brief introduction to the architecture and types of top-emitting OLEDs, the microcavity theory typically used in top-emitting OLEDs is described in detail here. Then, methods for producing and understanding monochromatic (red, green, and blue) and white top-emitting OLEDs are summarized and discussed. Finally, the status of display development based on top-emitting OLEDs is briefly addressed.

Abstract:Abstract Organic light‐emitting diodes (OLEDs) have become a mainstream display technology in consumer electronics. Self‐emitting ability, transparency, true dark tone, and capability of being made flexible are some of the features of OLED displays, leading to a superior performance compared with liquid crystal displays. In addition to displays, OLEDs are also a strong candidate for lighting applications. Despite great advances in improving the internal quantum efficiency of an OLED to nearly 100%, the external quantum efficiency is still lacking behind due to optical losses. This review reports the latest advances in the optical design of OLEDs that address the external coupling efficiency of OLEDs. Discussed at first are the fundamentals of OLED optics and how the refractive indices of different layers in an OLED stack affect the extraction efficiency. Then, this paper reviews how microlens arrays, scattering layers, and corrugated structures can be used to recover the optical losses and improve the external efficiency, and the general optical designs for different optical structures for light extraction are presented.

Abstract:Abstract: Organic light emitting diode (OLED) is a device that uses organic semiconductor materials to emit light under the action of an electric field. Compared with traditional luminescent materials, they have the advantages of good softness, low-temperature resistance, wider field of vision and low energy consumption, and have been widely used in the field of display and lighting in recent years. In addition, compared with red and green light-emitting materials, the maximum external quantum efficiency of blue-light materials-based devices is high, but the CIE coordinate performance is poor and the blue emission is difficult to achieve high efficiency and high color purity at the same time. Researchers continue to design new molecular structures in order to synthesize new high-efficiency blue light materials. It is found that different molecular structures have different effects on the performance of OLED devices. In the design and synthesis of blue-light materials, various light-emitting groups are often used to regulate the stability, singlet-third-line state of the target molecule energy level difference, excited state lifetime, aggregation state structure, electricity luminescent color and its OLED performance, etc. The introduction of different light-emitting groups into the blue light material greatly improves the performance of the material. This paper mainly reviews the research status of blue organic electroluminescent materials in the past five years from different molecular structures, further discusses the photoelectric properties of each compound and the properties of devices based on this material, and briefly analyzes the advantages of molecular design and device production. And finally discusses the improvement methods of blue OLED light-emitting materials in order to provide a reference for future research.

Abstract:As the demand for display technology in consumer electronics and lighting panels increases, thin, light, high‐quality, and more cost‐effective light‐emitting devices are required. Organic light‐emitting devices (OLEDs), satisfying the criteria exactly, have been considered the most promising next‐generation display and lighting technique. In particular, an OLED based on flexible substrate enables the device to be applied to curved displays, electronic newspapers, wearable displays, and conceptual lighting panels, has been always in the spotlight both in science and industry. Great advances on flexible OLEDs (FOLEDs) have been made over the past three decades. The fundamental elements of FOLEDs including substrates, electrodes, fabrication and encapsulation techniques, as well as the strategies of efficiency improvement are discussed herein. Moreover, emerging electrodes such as graphene, carbon nanotubes, metal nanowire network and their composite, flexible perovskite light emitting devices, and stretchable light emitting devices are also considered. Finally, the future challenges and prospects for these devices are put forward.

Abstract:Organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) based on vacuum deposited small molecules have undergone significant progress since the first efficient double-layered OLEDs were reported in 1987 by Tang and Van Slyke. Recently, solution processed small molecular OLEDs are also drawing more and more research attention, as such a technology combines advantages of the facile synthesis of small molecules and the low-cost solution process like polymers. The performance of OLEDs made by solution process is gradually catching up with their vacuum deposited counterparts. This feature article will review the device structures adopted to achieve high performance solution processed OLEDs, the development of solution processable small molecules, and the comparisons of the different nature of the films and devices fabricated by solution-process or by vacuum deposition. Finally, the prospects and remaining problems will be discussed.

Abstract:The demonstration of high efficiency and color tunability has brought organic light-emitting devices (OLEDs) into the lighting and display market. High efficiency is one of the key issues for their commercial applications, for which much effort has been devoted to developing novel materials and device structures. It is well known that around 80% of the generated photons are trapped in OLED structure, so that there is still the greatest scope for significant improvements in its efficiency. This has driven the research towards the integration of micro/nano patterns into device structures that benefit from their abilities in manipulating the generation and propagation of photons. Micro/nano patterns with random or periodic morphologies have demonstrated their effect on the outcoupling of the trapped photons within the device. Moreover, the emitting properties other than the light extraction could be manipulated by introducing the micro/nano patterns. This article reviews the recent progresses in improving the light extraction and manipulating the emission properties of the OLEDs through the introduction of the micro/nano patterns by various fabrication strategies. The light manipulation of the micro/nano patterns in organic photovoltaics is briefly discussed considering its similar working principle and fabrication strategies to that of the OLEDs.

Abstract:Although organic light-emitting devices have been commercialized as flat panel displays since 1997, only singlet excitons were emitted. Full use of singlet and triplet excitons, electrophosphorescence, has attracted increasing attentions after the premier work made by Forrest, Thompson, and co-workers. In fact, red electrophosphorescent dye has already been used in sub-display of commercial mobile phones since 2003. Highly efficient green phosphorescent dye is now undergoing of commercialization. Very recently, blue phosphorescence approaching the theoretical efficiency has also been achieved, which may overcome the final obstacle against the commercialization of full color display and white light sources from phosphorescent materials. Combining light out-coupling structures with highly efficient phosphors ( shown in the table-of-contents image), white emission with an efficiency matching that of fluorescent tubes (90 lm/W) has now been realized. It is possible to tune the color to the true white region by changing to a deep blue emitter and corresponding wide gap host and transporting material for the blue phosphor. In this article, recent progresses in red, green, blue, and white electrophosphorescent materials for OLEDs are reviewed, with special emphasis on blue electrophosphorescent materials.
