Abstract:The mechanism and preparation as well as experimental results of indium tin-oxide (ITO) transparent electric conductive films with very low resistivity of 1.5��10-4 ��cm and high transmittance of 88-90% have been presented. The influence of some parameters on the resistivity and transmittance has been discussed.

Abstract:Polyaniline/montmorillonite (PAn/MMT) composite material has been prepared through chemical-oxidative polymerization by using NH4S2O8 as the oxidant, and it was found that both the composites have inorganic and organic material characteristics and many outstanding performance through the copolymerization coupling of MMT and polyaniline. Infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) are used to characterize the composition and structures of composite materials, as well as test the conductivity of composite materials through a four-probe technique. The preparation conditions of PAn/MMT conducting composites are optimized. The optimal conditions have been identified for the reaction time, amount of oxidizer, concentration of HCI, and the amount of MMT. Besides, the results show that when the reaction lasts for 8 hr in the ice bath, the amount of MMT is 0.4 g/5 ml An, the mole ratio of oxidant to aniline is 1, and the concentration of hydrochloric acid is 2 M, the composite had the largest conductivity up to 11.5 S/cm. In addition, we also did an elemental analysis of the composite mechanism of PAn/MMT composites. Copyright (C) 2008 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

Abstract:Conducting polymer polyaniline and insulating polymer polycarbonate composites have been prepared. Electrical conductivity can be controlled in a wide range (more than 15 orders of magnitude) by a small amount of polyaniline. This characteristic can be explained by a percolation model. That is, at the threshold concentration; the electrodes must be bridged by a conducting channel of polyaniline. The percolation threshold and critical exponent of the conductivity parallel to the film surface are different from those perpendicular to the film surface. This suggests the anisotropy of conductivity in the composite. The conductivity of a high polyaniline concentration composite is found to be stable up to 160 degrees C.

Abstract:Polyaniline (PAn)-poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) composite film prepared electrochemically has a gradient of PAn content along the thickness direction with some PVA chains grafted by PAn chains to various extents along the thickness direction. This composite film can be considered to be composed of four regions: a PAn layer, a PAn-rich region, a PAn gradient region, and a PAn-poor region. The composite film has conductivities on the film surface of the electrode side about equal to the conductivity of PAn at the same doping level and on the solution side lower than the conductivity of PAn by a factor of 10(4). As a result of the PAn content gradient and the presence of moisture, the bulk conductivity of the composite film drops significantly in the glass transition range of PVA. The chemically prepared composite film has a bulk conductivity lower than that of PAn by a factor of 10 with no significant variation in conductivity in the glass transition region of PVA and is featureless in morphology.

Abstract:Polyaniline (PANI) particles were synthesized using aniline (AN), dodecyl benzene sulfonic acid (DBSA), and ammonium persulfate (APS). The particles were analyzed using scanning electron microscope (SEM), X‐ray diffraction (XRD), and fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). A PANI/waterborne polyurethane composite material (PANI‐WPU) was obtained by combining it with polyethylene glycol (PEG600), diphenylmethane diisocyanate (MDI), dimethylol propionic acid (DMPA), N‐methyl pyrrolidone (NMP), and dibutyltin lauric acid (DBTDL). The structure was characterized by the FTIR spectrum. The mechanical characteristics of the coating film were evaluated with respect to the PANI content, as well as its water absorption, glossiness, electrochemical corrosion resistance, and acid and alkali resistance. The PANI/waterborne polyurethane film has a maximum tensile strength of 23 ±1 MPa, an elongation of 1012%, a pencil hardness of 5H, a flexibility of 2 mm, an impact resistance of 50 cm, the water absorption of 14.66%, and the glossiness of 99.9 ±0.1 at 60°. When the PANI content is 0.7%, the mechanical characteristics, glossiness, and anti‐corrosion performance of the composite film improve. The corrosion inhibition efficiency of the aqueous polyurethane coating film with PANI can reach 99.74%, as shown by the examination of electrochemical polarization curves and impedance spectra. The tinplate is coated with a 0.7% PANI‐WPU composite material and edge sealing. This coating provides excellent protection against acid and alkali resistance, as demonstrated by its ability to withstand immersion in 10% H2SO4 and 10% NaOH solution for 90 days without any paint peeling off.

Abstract:Silver nanowires (AgNWs)-polyurethane (PU) composite transparent conductive films were fabricated via transfer method using AgNWs conductive inks and polyurethane as starting materials, and the effects of post-treatments including heat treatment, NaCl solution bath and HCl solution bath for AgNWs film on the sheet resistance and transmittance of the composite films were respectively investigated in detail. AgNWs networks are uniformly embedded in the PU layer to improve the adhesion and reduce the surface roughness of AgNWs-PU composite films. Heat treatment can melt and weld the nanowires, and NaCl and HCl solution baths promote the dissolution and re-deposition of silver and the dissolving of the polymer, both which form conduction pathways and improve contact of AgNWs for reducing the sheet resistance. Smooth and flexible AgNWs-PU composite film with a transmittance of 85% and a sheet resistance of 15 Omega . sq(-1) is obtained after treated in 0.5 wt% HCl solution bath for 60 s, and the optoelectronic properties of the resultant composite film can maintain after 1000 cycles of bending and 100 days.

Abstract:A series of new composite materials that consist of electronically conducting polyaniline and polyacrylate-silica hybrid sol-gel network have been prepared via the sol-gel reactions of the precursor polymer, poly[methyl methacrylate-co-3-(trimethoxysilyl)propyl methacrylate], in the presence of camphorsulfonic acid-doped polyaniline in m-cresol solution. These materials as coatings can be tailored by varying the composition to have an excellent adhesion to inorganic substrates such as silica glass and indium-tin oxide and a reasonably high conductivity. The adhesion and durability of the new composites as the electroactive coatings on indium-tin oxide electrode are much superior to those of the conventional polyaniline system under repeated electric potential cycling conditions. The modulus of the composite films was also found to be relatively greater than that of the polyaniline films.

Abstract:Research on composites/blends containing polyaniline (PANI) has attracted numerous scientists and engineers due to their excellent adhesion and anticorrosive properties. Nano-structured PANI composites and matrix resins play a key role in physical and anticorrosive performance. This paper reviews the synthesis, growth mechanisms and corrosion application with different resin coatings of PANI-based nano-composites. It also highlights the failures of corrosion protection and methods and suggestions to improve it.

Abstract:A polyaniline/polystyrene composite film with a lotus-leaf-like structure is prepared via a simple electrospinning method. The film shows stable superhydrophobicity and conductivity, even in many corrosive solutions, such as acidic or basic solutions over a wide pH range, and also in oxidizing solutions. The special surface composition and morphology are the two important aspects that induce such unusual properties. The polystyrene content can strongly influence the morphology of the composite films, which thus display different superhydrophobicities and conductivities.

Abstract:Water-soluble polyaniline (PANi) was prepared by a “green” method with poly (stryrenesulfonic acid) (PSSA) as a template, and characterized by UV–vis spectroscopy, FT-IR spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM). It was found that the films of PANi and its composite with poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) were composed of nanoparticles. The humidity sensitive properties of the both PANi and its composite with PVA were investigated at room temperature. The water-soluble PANi exhibited high sensitivity (impedance change over three orders of magnitude in the range of 15–97%RH) and good sensing linearity on a semi-logarithmic scale, but a relatively large hysteresis of ∼8%RH. In contrast, the composite of PANi and PVA showed a very small hysteresis of ∼2%RH. Moreover, the response was fast and highly reversible. The humidity sensing mechanism of the composite of PANi with PVA was explored by measuring its complex impedance spectra under different humidities.

Abstract:In this work, a chemical grafting polymerization method was employed to synthesize EHPMC-g-PANI self-supporting films. Polyaniline (PANI) was grafted onto hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC) modified with epichlorohydrin (EPHMC) to obtain an EHPMC-g-PANI aqueous dispersion, which was subsequently dried to form the self-supporting films. The introduction of HPMC, with its excellent film-forming ability and mechanical strength, successfully addressed the poor film-forming ability and mechanical properties intrinsic to PANI. Compared to in situ polymerized HPMC/PANI, the EHPMC-g-PANI exhibited significantly improved storage stability. Moreover, the fabricated EHPMC-g-PANI films displayed a more uniform and smoother morphology. The conductivity of all the films ranged from 10−2 to 10−1 S/cm, and their tensile strength reached up to 36.1 MPa. These results demonstrate that the prepared EHPMC-g-PANI holds promising potential for applications in various fields, including conductive paper, sensors, and conductive inks.

Abstract:High Performance Polymers, Ahead of Print. The application of polyaniline (PANI) in various fields is greatly limited by its poor solubility in water.Many methods which could elevate PANI water-soluble ability were used by researchers to expand its application range. In this paper, the research progress of the commonly used preparation methods of water-soluble PANI in recent years is reviewed. The main preparation methods of water-soluble PANI are categorized into four types including monomer modification, controlling the polymerization process, introducing water-soluble groups or substances, macromolecular reaction. They are composed of aniline derivative method, copolymerization, emulsion polymerization method, dispersion polymerization method, acid doping method, compound method, ATRP method. The principles of various methods to achieve water-solubility of PANI are introduced, the research on each preparation method reported before are introduced and their advantages and disadvantages are summarized.

Abstract:A highly porous NiO/polyaniline (PANI) composite film was prepared on ITO glass by combining the chemical bath deposition and electro-polymerization methods, successively. The porous NiO film acts as a template for the preferential growth of PANI along NiO flakes, and the NiO/PANI composite film has an intercrossing net-like morphology. The electrochromic performance of the NiO/PANI composite film was investigated in 1 M LiClO4 + 1 mM HClO4/propylene carbonate ( PC) by means of transmittance, cyclic voltammetry ( CV) and chronoamperometry ( CA) measurements. The NiO/PANI thin film exhibits a noticeable electrochromism with reversible color changes from transparent yellow to purple and presents quite good transmittance modulation with a variation of transmittance up to 56% at 550 nm. The porous NiO/polyaniline ( PANI) composite film also shows good reaction kinetics with fast switching speed, and the response time for oxidation and reduction is 90 and 110 ms, respectively.

Abstract:Polyaniline films were deposited on the substrates of Si(100) and slides by using vacuum evaporation deposition method.HCl-doped and intrinsic polyaniline powders were used as the starting material.The as-deposited films were characterized using FT-IR and SEM.The influence of the diameter of polyaniline powders on the film morphology was also analyzed.The conductivity test indicates that the conductivity of as-deposited films is about 10-6S/cm,which can meet the need of electrostatic prevention.

Abstract:Ultra-thin WO3 nanorods (NRs) embedded polyaniline (PANI) composite thin films were synthesized by embedding WO3 NRs into polyaniline using a surface-initiated-polymerization method, followed by spin-coating deposition. The ultra-thin WO3 NRs with length of 60nm and diameter of 4nm were prepared by a solvothermal method. The nanofillers were well-dispersed in the polymer matrix. The nanocomposites were finally deposited onto ITO-coated glass via spin-coating technology. The electrochromic contrast, switching speed, and durability of the composite films were investigated in details. The composite film, being a dual electrochromic material, varied from purple to green, light yellow and finally dark blue. The switching speed (0.9s) is much faster than the films only composed of WO3 NRs. The durability of the hybrid film was enhanced compared with neat WO3 NRs film.
Comparative Study on Preparation Methods for Transparent Conductive Films Based on Silver Nanowires

Abstract:Silver nanowires, which have high optoelectronic properties, have the potential to supersede indium tin oxide in the field of electrocatalysis, stretchable electronic, and solar cells. Herein, four mainstream experimental methods, including Mayer–rod coating, spin coating, spray coating, and vacuum filtration methods, are employed to fabricate transparent conductive films based on the same silver nanowires to clarify the significance of preparation methods on the performance of the films. The surface morphology, conductive property, uniformity, and flexible stability of these four Ag NW-based films, are analyzed and compared to explore the advantages of these methods. The transparent conductive films produced by the vacuum filtration method have the most outstanding performance in terms of surface roughness and uniformity, benefitting from the stronger welding of NW-NW junctions after the press procedure. However, limited by the size of the membrane and the vacuum degree of the equipment, the small-size Ag films used in precious devices are appropriate to obtain through this method. Similarly, the spin coating method is suited to prepare Ag NWs films with small sizes, which shows excellent stability after the bending test. In comparison, much larger-size films could be obtained through Mayer-rod coating and spray coating methods. The pull-down speed and force among the Mayer-rod coating process, as well as the spray distance and traveling speed among the spray coating process, are essential to the uniformity of Ag NW films. After being treated with NaBH4 and polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA), the obtained Ag NW/PMMA films show great potential in the field of film defogging due to the Joule heating effect. Taken together, based on the advantages of each preparation method, the Ag NW-based films with desired size and performances are easier to prepare, meeting the requirements of different application fields.

Abstract:A composite conductive polymer film, polyaniline-coated polytetrafluoroethylene, noted as PANI/PTFE, has been successfully synthesized by a simple chemical oxidation polymerization approach. The observed surface morphology of the PANI/PTFE film confirms that the network structural PTFE film acted as template in the synthesis of the composite film to get PANI@PTFE coaxial-line structure at a relative low oxidant concentration. By regulating the molar ratio of oxidant to monomer, the morphological evolution of the composite film could be controlled, resulting in the tunable hydrophilicity. As a consequence of an optimal combination of the characteristic features of PANI and PTFE, a composite film with excellent mechanical properties, high conductivity, easy processability, adjustable hydrophilicity and reversible conversion between hydrophobicity and hydrophilicity have been obtained.

Abstract:Silver nanowire-polymer composite transparent conductive films (TCFs) for thin film solar cells were fabricatedvia a transfer method by coating silver nanowires and PU on polyethylene terephthalate substance, and the transmission spectra and sheet resistance of TCFs were examined by four-probe tester, UV-Vis spectrophotometry and other techniques. The effects of silver nanowires concentration and heat treatment on the properties of the films were investigated. The experimental result shows that the transmittance of TCFs and the sheet resistance increase with the decrease of concentration. Heat-treatment can significantly improve the conductivity of TCF. The sheet resistance firstly reduces and then increases with the increase of heat-treatment temperature and time. The TCFs with sheet resistance of 42?/sq, transmittance of 85.7％, and haze of 13.52％ are obtained after heat-treatment at 150℃ for 5min.
