Abstract:As a very important field of CSCW, cooperative edit systems have a rapid development in recent years. Many systems have appeared and put into use. But most of these systems have deficits, such as not supporting the brainstorm edit mode, not marking the users edit process and so on. We have done many things in these directions and have finished a Web-based Real-time Cooperative Edit System(WRCES). WRCES offers the consistency maintenance at the brainstorm edit mode, marking the users edit process and multimedia subsystem. In this paper, we introduce the architecture and the work model of this system.

Abstract:A new method is presented to solve the open architecture problem and to improve the reliability of CNC system by using software reuse and component technology in this paper. At first,the feasibility of developing CNC system with software component is discussed, and the conception of CNC software components and the integrated and normative description of the component are also offered. Under this condition, this paper introduces a method for the analysis of reuse and the common principles that should be followed in the process for developing CNC systems with software component technology. Then the steps for developing software CNC system is described from the points of view of a developer and a consumer respectively. In the end,an example demonstrating the specific implement of this kind of thought is shown. This method is proved to be effective by developing a prototype example.

Abstract:Mobile CSCW is normally limited by resources and is bothered by mobile environment, thus would influence the efficient processing of cooperating work. Those challenges would be recovered by the CSCW system designed ba- sing on and centralized by activity, in which the key point is how to supply the awareness information for activity. This paper presents a mobile CSCW awareness model here, which provides the activity awareness information by defining a series of entity objects, including actor entity, object entity and activity stage entity etc., together with their awareness activity service, and implemented in a prototype system. This model provides the awareness info. needed for mobile team work, thus efficiently support the user to accomplish the cooperating work.

Abstract:Software architecture is the backbone of a software- intensive system, many architecture models and styles are struggling to make the artifacts more understandable and reusable. Service-oriented programming is proposed to support reusing and enhancing distributed system development and a service-oriented architecture is essentially a collection of services which communicate with each other. However, the practitioners face the trouble in defining the services and identifying the communication request between all the services. Here in this paper, we adopted a role based architecture model named E-CARGO to facilitate the service definition and communication request identifying. An experience was conducted in prototyping a community support system and E-CARGO model was extended with data and authority access in the case study. The case study indicated that the suggested model could facilitate communication request identifying and service definition and could be helpful in identifying the authority control request during role shifting.

Abstract:The Web-based real-time cooperative edit system is an efficient working paradigm of CSCW, and it offers a function of editing a document at the same time by multiusers through a Web browser. Modeling versions is one of the most important technologies of the system. According to the characteristics of cooperative work, we define the version, world, context, entity, current version and relationship to modeling version. Then four kinds of meetings are presented, and the different characteristics of their record versions are discussed. The multi-version, dynamic and inter-related properties of the versions in meetings are analyzed. According to the system's version model, an instance is given.

Abstract:With the development of computer network technology, research in Computer Supported Cooperative Work (CSCW) systems is becoming popular. CSCW has the potential of providing the environment needed for groups of diverse users to cooperate in order to achieve their common goals. Our current research has mainly focused on those extensions to a 4DSMM (4D Site Management Model) concept necessary to provide a wider scope that also allows cooperative work and information sharing by Internet for different project teams, and the development of a new experimental system. This paper presents a new 4D-CSCW model for construction management through integrating CSCW technology with the existing 4DSMM, and discusses the features of this newly extended model based on studying the cooperative work and communication methods of construction management and the regulation of data flow in construction process. The techniques for applying the model in construction management practice are then described.

Abstract:Based on the research of previous models of CAD systems, the component based model is presented in this paper, aiming at the openness, integration and efficiency of CAD systems. Functions of components and communication among them are discussed in detail. The model has a double bus architecture, is better in openness than the previous models, is proved to be a solid base for the modelling and implementation of efficient CAD systems with clear architecture. In addition, components can be used as the base of software reuse.

Abstract:This paper mainly discusses about the architecture of CSCW. Three mainstream architectures have been proposed. A CSCW application that built upon the hybrid architecture will be more flexible than others since two other architectures can be seen as the special cases of the hybrid architecture. However, how to select the servers among the workstations remains an open discussion. Most of the selection principals focus on the performance of the servers. And Researchers on CSCW believe that a more powerful server could transfer information among the workstations at a higher speed and would be more available. Unlike them, we mainly focus on the degree of interaction among users and propose a new selection principal that takes this consideration on the first position. We take the most effort to make sure that a group of userspsila workstations that communicate more frequently than others would connect to one server so that it can make the architecture be more effective at overall. We also discuss a method to adapt the whole architecture to heterogeneous network environments by add a router layer to assure the system messages would be translate through the network with the best speed. The new principle could reduce the probability of conflicts among the collaboration users, improve the collaboration efficiency.

Abstract:Workflow management system can offer enterprises a method to implement better management. This paper focuses on existing workflow management system bugs in the collaboration, discusses the combinability between workflow management system and CSCW, puts forward a work-strategy in the workflow collaboration and a system reference model, and designs a CSCW-based workflow management system. This system is based on a knowledge library, uses the rules and knowledge in the knowledge library to realize the workflow collaboration. This system also applies in the area of stock so as to effectively solve the problem that in the current stock system the workflows cannot work in the collaboration.

Abstract:A new computer supported collaborative work (CSCW) prototype system is developed to meet the needs of color CRT CAD/CAM. This paper discusses the characteristics and defines the key elements of the CSCW prototype system. The cooperation relation and cooperation work flow of color CRT CAD/CAM are provided. Compared with the traditional color CRT CAD/CAM system, the new CSCW prototype system is more suitable for the rapid design of color CRT. The efficiency of the new CSCW prototype is validated. A general CSCW architecture to support integrated product/process design and development is presented. A case study and evaluation of the architecture is also discussed. The integrated architecture will facilitate information access, sharing, and analysis among design team members using the open World Wide Web platforms and resources to design CRT products

Abstract:One main goal of CSCW is to achieve efficient communication, collaboration and coordination of group activity. The present conceptual models are insufficient in their flexibility, support for concurrent and asynchronous transactions, or applicable extension in CSCW systems. This paper proposes a new conceptual mode, namely AAM, which is based on anonymous agents. First we give its formal definition and characteristic analysis. And then, by an application example, we demonstrate how the AAM model supports dynamical agent assembly and how it can be applied to various collaborative work situations.

Abstract:Cooperation Management is one of the most important subjects of the researches on CSCW, which intends to mediate the cooperative relations between workgroup members in the integrated CSCW supporting system, but not to focus on how to implement the single cooperative work itself. Getting inside view of the cooperation process, we are convinced that there exist mainly three cooperative relations in the process, which are hierarchy relation、constraint relation and temporal relation. To describe and manage the cooperative relations effectively, we purpose here a concept of “Task Management ” ( TM ) and its model, TAMM( Task—Activity Management Modal), followed by a prototypical system based on them. In this paper, we begin with the introduction of some existing models and systems, next depict the three relations, with the concept of TM and TAMM, then give an overview of our prototype system and the summary at last.

Abstract:It has now been, widely recognized that a CSCW platform will be critical to the success of CSCW research, development and application. A CSCW platform tries to ease developer work in developing a cooperative application by providing some types of general-purpose cooperation support services. However current CSCW platforms lack the power to support uniformly the development of a full spectrum of cooperative applications. This paper summarizes some experiences and considerations in the design and implementation of a general-purpose CSCW platform named Dicse. The basic idea is to provide developers with the Cova model, with which the static and dynamic properties of data objects and the cooperation control policies can be described, and a interpreting system, which interprets the description and conducts the required cooperative control. In this way, cooperative services can be provided, while the implementation details are completely hidden from developers. We will discuss the Cova model, the services provided how they are implemented, and how they can be used by developers.
