Abstract:To increase the absorption capacity of renewable energy such as wind energy and solar energy, it is emergent to improve the operational flexibility of coal-fired power plants. Using biomass and coal-fired power plant for coupled electricity power generation is an important method to improve the fuel flexibility of the unit. This study presents the characteristics of the power generation scheme of biomass coupled with coal-fired power plant. The technical feasibility of flexibility improvement of coal-fired power plant by biomass gasification coupled power generation is analyzed. Taking a 330 MW unit building a 20 MW biomass gasification coupled power generation project as an example, the effects of biomass gasification coupled power generation on boiler efficiency, heating surface safety, catalyst performance and flue gas desulphurization (FGD) system are analyzed. The results show that after mixing a small amount of biomass gas, the boiler efficiency decreases and the flue gas volume increases slightly. However, the smoke and air systems of the original boiler and the desuperheated water system can still meet the demands. In addition, mixing a small amount of biomass gas has little impact on the heating surface corrosion and the FGD system. Nevertheless, the increase in K content entering the boiler is obvious and has an adverse effect on the activity of the catalyst. It is recommended that the proportion of the biomass be controlled below 10% based on the quality fraction of biomass alkali metal.
