Abstract:UHVDC commutation failure and DC block need to be studied in detail, for they will evidently affect the safety and stability of AC power grid Firstly, the main circuit and control system are studied and analyzed in depth. Then, the simulation model is established in PSCAD software. After that, the curves of commutation failure and DC block in different cases are obtained Finally, the correctness of this simulation platform is verified by comparison of some recording curves.

Abstract:Most of the prior-art electrical noninvasive monitoring systems adopt Zigbee, Bluetooth, or other wireless communication infrastructure. These low-cost channels are often interrupted by strong electromagnetic interference and result in monitoring anomalies, particularly packet loss, which severely affects the precision of equipment fault identification. In this paper, an iterative online fault identification framework for a high-voltage circuit breaker utilizing a novel lost data repair technique is developed to adapt to low-data quality conditions. Specifically, the improved efficient k-nearest neighbor (kNN) algorithm enabled by a k-dimensional (K-D) tree is utilized to select the reference templates for the unintegrated samples. An extreme learning machine (ELM) is utilized to estimate the missing data based on the selected nearest neighbors. The Softmax classifier is exploited to calculate the probability of the repaired sample being classified to each of the preset status classes. Loop iterations are implemented where the nearest neighbors are updated until their labels are consistent with the estimated labels of the repaired sample based on them. Numerical results obtained from a realistic high-voltage circuit breaker (HVCB) condition monitoring dataset illustrate that the proposed scheme can efficiently identify the operation status of HVCBs by considering measurement anomalies.

Abstract:Switchgear is one of the key equipments of an electrical power system. Its operation condition is very important for system reliability. Mechanical failure (open rejecting, close rejecting, and mechanical malfunction), insulation failure, and contacts overheating are in the majority of all operation failures. In this paper, an online condition monitoring system for 12 kV switchgear is developed. In this system, the insulation condition of bushings, the temperature rise of the detachable contacts and the mechanical performance are detected online. For mechanical performance, the contact travel and the current of close and open release coils are detected. Thus the average speed and instant speed can be obtained from contact travel. A prototype of this online condition monitoring system has been developed. Experiments indicate that the monitoring system can perform accurate online detection of the operation condition of switchgear, and it can offer exact forecasting in time.

Abstract:Abstract The development of on-line monitoring technology for high-voltage electrical equipment insulation, the working principle of online monitoring device, and the problems in operation were comprehensively expounded. The on-site verification technology of high-voltage electrical equipment insulation online monitoring system was studied, and online monitoring was analyzed. Management and technical issues with the device were found. On this basis, the on-site calibration device for the on-line monitoring system of high-voltage electrical equipment insulation was developed. The results of on-site non-power-off verification of high-voltage electrical equipment insulation online monitoring system produced by several manufacturers were introduced. Abstract:For monitoring temperature, insulation and mechanism of medium voltage switchgear, an on-line monitoring system was developed. Based on the low power electronic devices and infrared communication, a contact-type temperature sensor with high precision was designed for the system to solve the problem of high voltage isolation. An angular displacement sensor was used to measure the travel-time curve of the movable contacts indirectly, leading to the solutions of the problems in sensor assembling and high voltage isolation. Furthermore, combining with the vibration signal and the current curve of tripping coils during operation, the monitoring of mechanism condition of medium voltage switchgear could be achieved. The insulation could be characterized by measuring the leakage current of bushing. The test indicates that the on-line monitoring system is stable and reliable.

Abstract:With the rapid development of economy and substantial growth of the scale of power network, the safe operation of power system becomes particularly important. While in field of high voltage, hydraulic operating mechanism gradually plays an important role recently. Thus, monitoring and identifying the most common failures to improve the reliability and stability of operating mechanism are of great significance. In this paper, theoretical analysis is carried out for 252kV hydraulic operating mechanism of high voltage circuit breakers and simulation models are established with the software AMESim and Ansoft. The displacement and velocity of the cylinder are verified by experimental results. Then four faults including pressure fluctuations, variation of oil viscosity, fraction stuck and the addition of air content are simulated. With the characteristics of the velocity curves under different conditions, the fault can be directly identified.

Abstract:Network communication is the foundation for normal operation of digital substation, the on-line communication monitoring becomes necessary. This paper discusses the basis of on-line communication monitoring system for digital substation. The communication network faults have been classified into two layers: (1) the background communication fault; (2) the application communication fault. Though there are serious mutual impacts between these two layer's failures; the clear understand of two layer failure will be helpful for the fault host location. The background communication failures have been discussed and the methods how to calculate or measure are also given. Normally such failure detection should be supported by communication switches which supports IEC 61850, and the information modeling for switches are also introduced. Taking GOOSE (Generic Object Oriented substation Event) as the example of application communication, its failures behavior and abnormal detection are also given.

Abstract:For studying the diagnosis and control technique for high voltage safety of electric vehicle,a special on-board high voltage safety management module based on CAN bus and by-wire control technology is developed.The module can monitor and diagnose all electrical parameters and insulation state in the high voltage system of all types of electric vehicles in real time and control the output of electric energy correctly and reliably.The results of trial use for several years show that the management module can meet the requirements of high voltage safety diagnosis and control in both static and dynamic states for all kinds of electric vehicles,even common vehicles.

Abstract:Abstract In order to monitor the mechanical structure status of high-voltage vacuum circuit breakers in real time and diagnose faults online, a hardware design scheme of an online monitoring device for 10kV vacuum circuit breakers is proposed in this paper. From the perspective of practical application, this design scheme fully considers the practical working conditions of the monitoring device. The device not only monitors the mechanical vibration of the circuit breaker, the rotation stroke of the spindle and the position signal of the mechanical switch, but also monitors both the voltage and current of the opening (closing) coil, the energy storage motor and the closing lock coil. In this paper, in order to adapt the monitoring device to the actual application conditions, a modular design is adopted, the isolation and protection performance of the ports is strengthened and the integration degree of the device is increased.

Abstract:Circuit breaker is one of the most important equipment in electric power system. In order to know its operation condition in time, it is necessary to realize on-line monitoring of circuit breaker. The paper presents an on-line monitoring system of circuit breaker based on double CPU and two-bus technology, which can send the results and fault waveform to the main computer. Experimental results show that the system is highly real-time and stable and can detect various parameters of circuit breaker exactly.

In this paper, we aim to bring forward a feasible monitoring method by using vibration signal to monitor ultra-high voltage circuit breaker's switching synchronization in GIS. To achieve purpose, a hardware circuit for on line vibration signal monitoring is designed. Thus, via analyzing the vibration signal produced during circuit breaker operation, the switching synchronization status of the circuit breaker can be obtained.

Abstract:A design of on-line monitoring system of high-voltage circuit breaker based on ARM chip and embedded Linux platform is presented. The system has good stability, low cost, small size, low power consumption, strong scalability and large memory capacity, and can be used for both AC circuit breaker and DC circuit breaker. So it solved the integrated on-line monitoring problem of high-voltage breaker that there are both AC circuit breaker and DC circuit breaker in the subway traction substation. The system is applied in Beijing subway traction and the operation result shows that it has a good performance.

Abstract:This paper describes the development and design of a novel online detector for condition monitoring of switchgears based on Modbus technology. The equipment is based on host-and-slave structure. Each salve module, which collects different sensed information such as mechanical condition, partial discharge and temperature, is installed on the target switch gear cabinet to comprehensively monitor all the connected switchgears in the substation. Once there is any potential faults happened, the defective switch cabinet can be automatically picked out by the host. Overall system construction and its practical application are proposed.

Abstract:The designed system is capable of on-line monitoring the temperature rise, insulation and mechanical characteristic of circuit breakers. It has a local monitoring unit and a computer, the former collecting local data and showing users the condition report on LCD, indicating the condition of exceeding the threshold value that can be preset by user through keyboard, and sending the data to computer through RS-485 communication interface. The application of PSD device and a software method called task schedule makes the local monitoring unit more stable and more flexible.

Abstract:As the primary protection and control device in direct current (DC) power systems, DC circuit breakers (DCBs) have complex structures and numerous components, making it prone to diversified internal failures. This paper explores an operation status monitoring method for DCBs, and relative backup fault isolation schemes and system recovery schemes are proposed to handle cases of DCBs with different internal failures. Contributions of this paper are: (1) An operation status monitoring method is proposed to reflect the failure degrees of DCB, categorizing the statuses of DCB into status-1 (normal), status-2 (minor failure) and status-3 (major failure). (2) According to the failure degrees of DCB, relative backup fault isolation and system recovery schemes are proposed to ensure the fault isolation scope is as small as possible and the system could recovery as fast as possible. Simulations are conducted in PSCAD/EMTDC for validation.
