Abstract:With the development of the Internet technologies and computer communication technologies, the traditionary circuit-switch based network must evolves to the new generation network which is based on the packet-switch technology. Facing the progress and status of the convergence of the three-networks, This document presents a distributed and SIP protocal based VoIP system prototype. Due to combinating of merits of SIP and IP, this model not only provides the interoperation with the existed network, but also provides an extendable plat for the NGN. This model uses private VoIP network to achieve the QoS.
A Latency-Adaptive Communication Architecture for Inter-Networked Virtual Environments

Abstract:With the availability of broadband Internet access, networked virtual environment (NVE) is ready for deployment over the Internet. Of existing NVE communication architectures, the most suitable one for inter-networked VE is client/server architecture with multi-server. However under this architecture each client connects with only one server, so when a client migrates from one server to another, it should disconnect with the previous server and make connection to another server. Because of the Internet's inherent latency problem, there would be an abrupt appearance in other clients' view due to it. To avoid this abrupt appearance, the paper bright out a new NVE's communication architecture in which each client connects with other server(s) in advance according to prediction. The new architecture was adopted by Tourism Expo '2003 of Zhejiang Province, and achieved a great success.

Abstract:Computer Supported Collaboration has not only changed the way people work, but also the way people live, the way people entertain and the way people get education. The development of the Internet provides digital en tertainments and distant-learning with a good network environment and in these applications, 2.5D virtual environ ments are widely used due to their good performances and the sense of realism. But the Internet's inherent problem of latency affects the real-time feature of the virtual envirorunents, in particular multi-server ones. Based on traditional multi-server communication models, a new multi-server one is brought out which extended the region managed by each server. The model was adopted in Zhejiang Tourism Expo'2003, and achieved a great success.

Abstract:Most practical virtual environments are constructed of 3D models with top-quality textures. Therefore, large application systems of distributed virtual environment inevitably involve huge transmission of texture data. However, transmitting huge texture data over the network will bring severe delays that would affect the characteristics of reality and real-time of Distributed Virtual Environment. To solve this problem we have implemented the texture progressive transmission with the classic Laplacian pyramid algorithm and the Haar transform algorithm. The experimental results in our prototype DVE system show that these two algorithms both effectively decrease initial load latency. However the former algorithm increases the data amount needed to represent a texture map while the latter keeps the amount unchanged. Furthermore to lighten the burden of the network, we use some data compression methods to reduce the total number of the data to be transmitted in our DVE system.

Abstract:With the increasing requirements for distributed virtual environment (DVE): supporting larger number of participants and providing more smooth roaming and interactions, scalability is becoming a key issue. In this paper, we explore the scalability of participants and the scalability of servers, and mainly focus on three aspects: system architecture, communication model and interest mechanism. We present our middleware platform, HIVE, providing a variety of services such as data distribution, communication, event notification, etc. To achieve the reusability and interoperability of DVE applications, the interface specification of high level architecture (HLA) is employed as the reference. HIVE also contains the back-ends, which the middleware services depend upon. On HIVE, users can develop scalable DVE applications easily and quickly, concentrating on not the detail of distribution but the application logic. Finally an experimental demo on HIVE is given.

Abstract:A design method of VDM(Video Digital Mixer) based on Ethernet communication protocol was introduced,which not only superimposed characters and graphics on input video signal,but also communicated with the computer through Ethernet.The VDM equipment could provide higher communication speed and longer communication distance than the previous ones.Every set of the VDM equipment has unique IP address in the local area network,which can be recognized and parallel controlled by the computer.

Abstract:An experimental multi-user distributed virtual environment MUDVE is introduced. After analyzing pros and cons of peer-to-peer topology and client-server topology, a new hybrid communication topology is presented, which has the characteristics of low latency and good scalability. The system functions, such as object-oriented data management, dynamic load balancing and user management are discussed. The system also provides functions of information service and resource discovery, which are deficient in the existing DVE systems. Finally the experiment platform is described and the result is shown in grabbed images.

Abstract:Distributed Real-Time (DRT) systems are among the most complex software systems to design, test, maintain and evolve. The existence of components distributed over a network often conflicts with real-time requirements, leading to design strategies that depend on domain- and even application-specific knowledge. Distributed Virtual Environment (DVE) systems are DRT systems that connect multiple users instantly with each other and with a shared virtual space over a network. DVE systems deviate from traditional DRT systems in the importance of the quality of the end user experience. We present an analysis of important, but challenging, issues in the design, testing and evaluation of DVE systems through the lens of experiments with a concrete DVE, OpenSimulator. We frame our observations within six dimensions of well-known design concerns: correctness, fault tolerance/prevention, scalability, time sensitivity, consistency, and overhead of distribution. Furthermore, we place our experimental work in a broader historical context, showing that these challenges are intrinsic to DVEs and suggesting lines of future research.

Abstract:High-level architecture (HLA) based distributed simulation technology is widely used in education, entertainment, surgery training and many other fields as well. Efficient communication is essential to the modern distributed simulation. This paper explores the factors which affect the communication of HLA-based distributed simulation: network topology, communication model and interest mechanism. Also, it presents a practical approach for efficient communication in HLA-based distributed simulation, called HIVE Communication. HIVE Communication employs a three-level network architecture to achieve efficient transmission in large-scale distributed simulation. This presents a special communication model to get high-efficiency transmission according to the different message types. It exploits three levels of message filtering mechanisms to minimize the update messages. A communication performance test environment is proposed to test HIVE Communication. The results are compared with DMSO RTI 1.3 v5 and DVE_RTI v2.0 in aspects of latency, throughput and loss rate. The performance results are given finally.
