Abstract:To meet embedded multimedia applications, a media-enhanced and reconfigurable RISC microprocessor is designed. Media-enhanced extension, pipeline controlling strategy, bypassing unit and exception handling are studied. By parameterized and module design, the microprocessor can be configured easily. The RISC core is simulated in Xilinx X2CV3000 FPGA successfully and an MPEG-4 AAC decoder based on the microprocessor has been implemented. The result shows that the core can be conveniently integrated into SoC.

Abstract:A 32-bit embedded RISC processor is presented which is compatible with the PowerPC architecture. To make a balance between its area, power, performance and real-time response, a smart micro-architecture is proposed with the distinguishing feature of dual-issue and dual-pipeline. The key point of the architecture is that the instruction dispatching engine dynamically scans the data dependences between two consecutive instructions in the instruction queue and decides whether or not to perform dual-issue action in advance. The intelligent engine parses the mutual-dependence relationships of the two instructions at the head of the queue. If the destinations of the first instruction are not the sources of the second adjacent instruction, the two instructions are allowed to be dispatched in parallel; otherwise they must be dispatched in sequence. Two independent pipelines can execute the two instructions and the dedicated data-forward buses are adopted to resolve the dependences between the multi-instructions. We use the HDL to build the model to evaluate the micro-architecture for accelerating the arithmetic instructions, and we use the Mibench to evaluate the proposed architecture. It is demonstrated that the average IPC of the smart architecture reaches 1.5. Compared to the single issue architecture, it can effectively improve the performance; and compared to the OOO(Out-of-Order) architecture it can reduce the area, the power and the verification complexity. During the experiment, we also find that the memory latency is the performance bottleneck. Finally, we give a brief discussion about the test circuit and the physical design. The processor is fabricated by SMIC 1P6M 180 nm CMOS technology, the die area is 5.9 × 6.7m 2 and the core frequency is 266 MHz..

Abstract:This research paper presents design & simulation of a high performance five stage pipelined 8 bit or 16-bit Microprocessor without Interlocked Pipeline Stages (MIPS), which is a Reduced Instruction Set Computing (RISC) architecture based processor. The purpose of RISC microprocessor is to execute a minuscule batch of instructions, with the intention of proliferating the celerity of the processor. This processor was designed with 5 phases of pipeline in particular Instruction Fetch (IF), Instruction Decode & Register Fetch (ID), Execution & Address Calculation (EX), Memory Access (MEM) and Write Back (WB) modules. The designing process was done using a myriad of modules which are the ALU, Control Unit, Program Counter, MUX, Instruction Memory, Data Memory, CPU, Register File, and Sign Extension. The Proposed design is developed by Verilog HDL and Simulated by Modelsim 6.4 c and Synthesized by Xilinx tool and proposed system implemented in FPGA Spartan 3 XC3S 200 TQ-144.

Abstract:The architecture of a MIPS (Microprocessor without Interlocked Pipeline Stages) based RISC or Reduced Instruction Set of Computers is a type of microprocessor which was designed by Harvard type data path structure to execute high speed using a small set of Instructions. This project explains the design and implementation of a 4-stage pipelining based low power processor. This feature leads to increase the reliability and speed of the system. The pipelining includes fetch, decode, execute and memory read/write operations. Low power was obtained by using clock gating technique. Clock gating is used to eliminate the unwanted clock usage when the module is not used. The main aim of the project is to design a 4-stage pipelined RISC processor starting from RTL to GDSII (Physical Design). The processor was coded by Verilog HDL language and implemented in Cadence Encounter Compiler tool. Calculated area, power, delay and clock gating using Cadence RTL compiler using slow and fast libraries of 45nm technology.

Abstract:This paper presents the design of the pipeline for 32-bit CISC microprocessorLongtiumC2, which is designed by top-down methodology. The microprocessor is compatible with Intel 486DX4 instruction set.The architecture of LongtiumC2and the function of each part in the microprocessor are described briefly in the paper. Aiming at the difficulty in the pipeline designing for CISC microprocessor, LongtiumC2 adopts seven-stage pipeline using the technology of micro-instruction pipelining.Besides, the paper analyzes the reasons that influence the pipeline and the control mechanism in practice design, such as dependency processing and precise interruption, so we accomplish a high performance pipeline for CISC microprocessor. the result of verification and synthesis shows that this pipeline could achieve the function and performance of LongtiumC2 microprocessor.

Abstract:The microprocessor is one of the most important blocks of the SoC. Considering high-performance, we implement a 32-bit RISC microprocessor, named as FDU32, with instruction sets compatible with ARM7TDMI. By using 5-stage pipeline and improving the circuit structure, FDU32 obtains 67% increment in max clock rate, 11% reduction in CPI and 86% increment in MIPS compared with ARM7TDMI at the same 0.35 mum CMOS process, and only the transistor count increases a little. FDU32 has passed the FPGA verification and taped out.

Abstract:A 32-bit MIPS processor was presented.To realize load balance and increase system efficiency,a custom five-stage pipeline structure was employed.Furthermore,data bypass and branch prediction based on history records were adopted to solve hazards of pipelined processor.In order to ensure reliability and testability,stage decomposition checking was used.Key signals of the pipeline stages were extracted as output signals.Meanwhile,multiple modes were proposed and reusing of pads were achieved to reduce chip area and number of pads.Post-layout simulation based on 0.18-μm CMOS technology indicated that the processor had a maximum frequency of 60 MHz.Having 135 k gates,the core circuit occupies a chip area of 1.15 mm×2.25 mm.With a total power consumption of 2.8 mW/MHz,the processor functions perfectly and switches properly between multiple modes.

Abstract:A RISC microprocessor is developed by using modular design method and VHDL language based on FPGA and EDA technology.The microprocessor mainly consists of controller,operator and registers,and have the basic functions of instruction control,operation control,time control and data process.Its instruction length is 16 bits.Immediately addressed and directly addressed are adopted.Its clock frequency reaches 23.02MHz and its function is satisfied.

Abstract:By exploiting instruction-level parallelism (ILP), the characteristics of architecture of super-scalar and super-pipelined processors are analyzed. Based on the achievement of research, a design of RISC core by super-scalar and super-pipelined technique is given. According to the proposed design, three pipelined execution units are configured by top-down methodology. Instruction dynamic scheduling and non-blocking-caches mechanism are also implemented.

Abstract:The application range of traditional ISA processors is seriously constrained due to their internal limited logic re?sources and external fixed?pin package. The processing core MIPS was designed with a hardware description language occording to bottom?up sequence. Those cores were connected with some general peripherals to build a minimal system,which was verified in board level by FPGA of“Virtex?II Pro series”. The verification result shows that the system has reached the stated objective, that is to say,the system is compatible with the standard microprocessors and runs stable. Therefore,the system can be custom?ized in terms of users’needs to meet the requirements that the traditional microprocessors cannot realize.

Abstract:Benefiting from its late arrival, the RISC-V architecture capitalizes on the maturity of computer architecture technology achieved through years of development. This allows the RISC-V design to sidestep issues that have been exhaustively examined during the evolution of computer architecture over time. Adhering to a specific sequence for executing instructions with a CPU results in extended processing durations. However, in a pipelined architecture, the execution of one instruction doesn't disrupt the synchronized progression of other instructions. The introduction of a pipeline structure can improve processor speed, performance, throughput, and so on. In this paper, the pipeline structure is divided into five stages: fetch, decode, execute, memory and write back. It uses registers to solve the possible hazards of pipelining. The central processing unit employs the RISC-V RV32I foundational integer instruction set architecture. This paper used Verilog language to design, and Vivado simulation environment to simulate the design. The pipeline structure is simulated successfully, including R, I, B, and J type instructions, and the structure hazard, control hazard, data hazard, and other three hazards are also successfully solved.

Abstract:The design and implementation of CPU soft-core is necessary for SoC design since the soft-core can be tailored to fit actual applications. A 32-bit RISC integral microprocessor soft-core that is fully embedded in FPGA is described, including the design of hardware structure, instruction set and a simple assembler. According to the architecture of the aimed FPGA, the design of pipeline structure and critical path delay balancing are optimized. Some debugging techniques used are also discussed at the end of the paper. On Xilinx Virtex1000FG680-4, the designed microprocessor running clock is 30MHz with 150 instructions. The core occupies 7% FPGA logic resource.

Abstract:LongtiumC2 is an embedded 32 bit Complex Instruction Set Computer microprocessor designed by Northwestern Polytechnical University,which is compatible with Intel 486DX2 in instruction level,designed to run in 133MHz,and includes about one million gates.Its power consumption is less than one watt.In micro-architecture level,this paper proposed a control logic design scheme,which combined PLA and micro-operation together to improve the flexibility and expansibility of LongtiumC2.In pipeline design,to realize the precise interrupt,this paper proposed an instruction pointer track method based on micro-operation,which leave out the time to wait current instruction's completion,and realize interrupt faster.To implement the low power characteristic for LongtiumC2,this paper proposed a low power design strategy for decode and control core logic,which reduces about 26% and 19% respectively for decoder unit and micro-core unit.Finally,to verify LongtiumC2 fast,completely and effectively,this paper proposed a system level verification strategy for microprocessor,which improves the efficiency and confidence of verification by constructing two kinds of system level verification platform for LongtiumC2 microprocessor using virtual system and FPGA,and proce-ssing a function points based coverage verification with Vera.

Abstract:The system control coprocessor based on the structure of MIPS is described,which mainly include Translation Look-aside Buffer(TLB),Control Unit(CP0CU),Interrupt Exception Control(IEC)and Register.And using the Verilog HDL with the software of QuartusⅡ7.2 and StratixⅡFPGA,it make the functions including reading/writing registers,the transition between the physical address and virtual address and the interruption or exception control.The paper also presents the simulations.

Abstract:A 32bit embedded RISC microprocessor designed for low-power, low-cost and highspeed is described. The chip implements the ARM V4 instruction set. Based on ARM7TDMI framework, this microprocessor takes the advantage of Harvard architecture and implements a 5stage pipeline. It also utilizes the improved pipeline hazard control and exception handle circuit for the fluent flow of pipeline. Compared with commercial ARM7TDMI implemented on 0.35μm CMOS process, the chip can achieve the same speed on 0.6μm CMOS process, while the CPI decreases 26%,MIPS increases 36%. The whole design has been tested successfully under Aptix System Explorer MP3CF hardware verification platform and taped out on CSMC 0.6μm CMOS process.

Abstract:The main goal of this paper is to develop a 32-bit pipelined processor with several clock domains based on the RISCV (open source RV32I Version 2.0) ISA. To minimize the complexity of the instruction set and speed up the execution time per instruction, a RISC (Reduced Instruction Set Computer) processor that uses less hardware than a CISC (Complex Instruction Set Computer) is used. Furthermore, this paper constructed this processor with five levels of pipelining with the aid of necessary block diagrams, and all of the processes are well described. In this paper, a RISCV processor is designed and simulated using Verilog. The design of the RISCV processor provides an alternative for software and hardware design to the computer designers as it provides free and open instruction set architecture (ISA). Besides, the designed RISCV processor will be using 5-stage pipeline techniques to improve the overall performance of the processor. This system is started by implementing several main modules, such as alu, aludec, maindec, imem, dmem, regfile, pc_mux, result_mux, pipeline register (IF/ID, ID/IEx, IEx/IMem, and IMem/IW), forwardMuxA, and forwardMuxB. Besides, a hazard unit is implemented into the design to mitigate hazard conditions. The functionality of these modules was simulated and verified by using Xilinx Vivado software.

Abstract:A design scheme of a CPU simulator which is compatible with MIPS32 instruction set is presented. It simulates hardware behavior of CPU by using C language, and it can implement all the MIPS32 instructions excluding floating-point instruction, such as parameterize main memory, unifies 2-way set associative instruction and data cache, embeding reconfigurable branch predictor and ELF interpreter. An application example is given.

Abstract:Due to lack of some hardware functions,Software Pipelining(SWP) on Open64 can not work on X86 processors.To solve this problem,this paper proposes an Open64 software pipelining framework.This framework can make SWP work well on X86 processors by software implementation of some processor features,by some loop filtering and by rewriting the register allocation code for the lack of circulating register file to achieve the purpose of the use of general purpose registers and adding the modulo variable expansion modulo to ensure the correctness.Experimental results show that this framework can achieve an average of 9%performance improvement.
