Abstract:A lower-cost monochrome CCD camera, which can detect the twenty-five frames of picture in one second, provides a rapid method to measure two-dimensional luminance distributions of the screen. According to the two-dimensional luminance distribution ratios of three primary colors captured by the CCD camera and the chromaticity coordinates of R, G, and B calibrated by the spectrometer, the chromaticity coordinates of combination colors of the LCD projector can be computed quickly. The algorithm of removing the black stimulus values and the precise calibration in five gray levels of CCD are employed to diminish the error. The two-dimensional distribution maps of chromaticity coordinates of combination colors of five levels are represented in this paper. The data show that the maximum difference between the chromaticity coordinate measured by CCD-based system and by the spectrometer is 0.009, which can present the color uniformity of LCD projector properly.
Auto-focusing and Auto-Alignment System for Three-Panel LCD Projection Display

Abstract:An Auto-focusing and Auto-alignment system based on digital image processing and the computer control technology was developed for 3-LCD projector manufacture. We analyzed the imaging characteristic of the optical system, and developed a mathematical model to realize the accurate focusing of each LCD panel and accurate alignment among three LCD panels. Based on the model, the experimental facility was set up, which is compose of five CCD detectors that are placed on the screen at different filed of view to capture images and regulating mechanism of LCD's six-dimensional degree of freedom droved by stepper motors. Appropriate defocusing evaluation function and alignment algorithm were also presented in this paper. The images captured by CCDs are processed to get the defocusing amount of every panel by the variance function and displacement amount of the three LCD panels by the gravity model approach. Then commands are sent to regulating mechanism to control the movement of each panel. After several turns of auto-correction, all the panels are in the proper position. Experiment results show that with the proper algorithm, the system can provide high accuracy and good performance in projector manufacture. The whole focusing and alignment process can be finished within ten minutes which is far superior to that made by man more than half an hour. With this system, completely automatic product lines can be established, which can provide 3-panel LCD projector light engines with considerable focusing and alignment accuracy.

Abstract:According to the application of two-dimensional CCD camera and the computer composing principles and characteristics of uniformity correction system of LCD projection display color, this paper experiments, analyzes and compares the process of seeking color correction value between improved binary algorithm and traditional stepping technique. The experimental results indicate that, compared with traditional stepping technique, the advantage of improved binary algorithm lies in the fact that it has universal adaptability and can be applied to the color uniformity correction of LCD projection system with various optical properties; besides, it has uniform convergence as to the search of correction value in different areas in the process of correction, which enables the correction time of the projection system to be a constant; what's more, in comparison with stepping technique, improved binary algorithm has a higher algorithmic efficiency with the same precision and its correction time reduces to 60% of the stepping technique. The related experiment shows that improved binary algorithm is the ideal algorithm that appropriate to be applied in the display color uniformity correction of LCD projection system.
Display Measurement Using Imaging Color Luminance Meter and Its Uncertainty

Abstract:An imaging color luminance meter can measure a large number of object points in a single operation costing just several seconds. So it is an ideal instrument for measuring the luminance, color and their distributions of displays. The measurement uncertainties of the imaging color luminance meter measuring CRT and LCD displays are analysed, mainly for the spectral mismatch uncertainty contribution. The results show that the spectral mismatch of the system responsivity causes large measurement uncertainties. A correction method for the spectral mismatch is introduced, both for CRT and LCD displays. The results show that the method can reduce the measurement uncertainties significantly.

Abstract:Description of the profile of electron beam is one of the difficult points in detection of color kinescope. By using optical-to-electrical conversion and information processing technique by computer, an automatic measurement system for electron beam profile is constructed through automatically adjusting boundary conditions and spline fitting method for three times. Compared with the traditional measurement method, this system has the advantages of high accuracy and fast measurement speed. It greatly decreases the operating intensity of the testing personnel and increases the testing function for arrangement ratio and concatenation ratio, etc.
LED Display Panel Visual Angle Detection and Evaluation Technique

Abstract:Visual angle detection is a very important indicator for the flat panel display products.In this paper,we set up a new visual angle detection method based on the characteristics of the full color LED display panel.The method uses a dedicated LED detection evaluation platform to get the display module's all angles based on the pixel level point-by-point brightness values in the three-dimensional space.And then it gets each primary color's spatial brightness distribution curve based on pixel level.With the brightness distribution curve we can assess Visual angle of the entire screen and give the results of the analysis objectively and accurately.Experiments show that the detection method is accurate,objective,reasonable,and it can evaluate the display quality of LED display panel effectively under the different visual angles.
Measurement and error analysis on color uniformity of LCD projector

Abstract:In order to improve the traditional inefficient method of measuring the color uniformity of liquid crystal display (LCD) projector, a system of measuring two dimensional chromaticity coordinate distribution was set up. By measuring three primary color coordinates with the standard colorimeter and the light intensity of every point with the charge coupled device (CCD) camera, the chromaticity coordinate distribution of every point on screen was obtained. And an improved method to test the three primary color coordinates at different gray levels was put forward. The error analysis of the measuring results show that the spectral transmittance of LCD at different gray levels has obvious influence upon the chromaticity coordinates distribution. The measuring velocity of the system is 10 times faster than that of traditional method. The precision can reach 2.4 × 10-3 and satisfy the request of the color uniformity measurement of LCD projectors.

Abstract:A measurement and correction system of color uniformity of LCD projection system consisting of video test signal generator, screen, CCD and computer is proposed. The system makes use of 2-D CCD because of its characteristic of rapid collection of two-dimensional image. Based on the time-divided measurement of two-dimensional brightness distribution of three primary colors on the screen, the correction data are obtained to adjust the output intensity ratio of three colors in order to realize color uniformity correction of LCD projection. The experiment results show that, after correction, the standard deviation of the difference between the chromaticity coordinates of each area of the screen and the average color coordinate is 5.23×10-4. It is only 10.46% of the corresponding one before correction. The color uniformity of the screen increases about one magnitude.

Abstract:A compact LCD projection display system and its optical performance are discussed in this paper. In order to improve optical performance, two flyingeye lens have been employed in the system. It can improve the brightness uniformity of display image. Also, a polarized light transformer, which involves two functions: polarizing light radiation and converting unpolarized light into the same polarization direction light beam for LCD panels, has been developed to increase the optical efficiency and contrast ratio. Moreover, color separation and combination system has been designed and developed. Under these construction, the system with good optical performance and outstanding picture quality has been achieved.

Abstract:Nowadays, with the rapid development of stereoscopic display technology, grating has been more and more widely used in auto stereoscopic 3DTV. This paper introduces a method that can be used to measure the parameters of lenticular-lens sheet for 3DLCD. This method is mainly based on the pure white-black characteristic image, by making use of the iterative method to get close to the accurate values of lines per inch, slant angle and k-offset. Compared with other methods, the one introduced in this paper is much simpler but more accurate, and experiments show that the parameter values measured using this method are close enough to the nominal values and can be used to improve 3D display qualities.

Abstract:Measuring system of the color filter film was presented. Color filter chromatic coordinate has an (important) effect on the display performance of the color LCD display. Because the traditional spectrophotometer used for measuring the CF spectrum permeation ratio has a systemic fault. So the highly precision micro-spectrometer system was designed in this work. That could not only measure the 50 μm size sample's spectrum transmission, but can acquire the chromatic coordinate accuracy of (±0.005.)The system is well used in the color filter film manufacturer and color LCD manufacturer.
Automatic Gamma correction system for liquid crystal projector

Abstract:In order to improve the image gradations of the liquid crystal (LC) projector, an automatic Gamma correction system was established to compensate for the S-shape transmittance character line of the LC. The system measures the luminance output of the LC projector using photocell by controlling each channel's look-up-table (LUT) in the driving circuit to output signals from small to large, so as to obtain the transmittance character line. Then the Gamma data are generated automatically according to the line and sent to the LUT real-time. Experimental results showed that after Gamma correction, the luminance out-putted by the LC projector accorded perfectly with the theoretical power function. The percentage luminance error was within -1%-1%, and the outputted image recurred every gradation.

Abstract:The automatic measuring system has been designed, which can measure the transmissivity and reflectivity of heavy caliber optical thin-film in wide spectral band and wide angular range. The implementation of the machine structure for measuring thick samples at large angle was discussed emphatically. We also introduced the optical system and the data acquisition module as well. At last, the paper analyzes various measurement errors and gives corresponding solutions.

Abstract:In order to test the performance of AM-OLED Display,an automatic V-I-Ltesting system based on virtual instrument technology was designed and used to acquire V-I-Lcurve.The performances of the AM-OLED Display(such as voltage-current,brightness,chromaticity coordinates,etc)could be measured in the same software.First,we built the hardware circuit:the driving circuit based on FPGA for AM-OLED Display.Then,a software system of V-I-Ltesting system based on virtual instrument technology was designed on this basis.Finally,we tested the 12.2cm AM-OLED Display based on MOTFT technology which is developed independently,and verified the reliability of the system.Through the analysis of the test results,the data voltage of each pixel was about 9.2Vwhen the brightness of AM-OLED Display reached to the value of calculation.In brief,this system can achievethe automatic test of the Displays' performance parameters and make an assessment on screen performance.What's more,it can not only provide reference data for the white balance adjustment and the design of AM-OLED driver IC,but also show the direction for the optimization design on the screen.

Abstract:To investigate the flat-panel display characteristic, and improve display industry development. As the international standards developed or adopted, ambient contrast ratio of display is a significance indicator. in this paper, we measured the ambient contrast ratio of display by several methods, included integrating sphere method, spectrum analysis method and sampling method, contrasted with each result, especially on the accuracy and consistency of the results, analyzed the difference with the traditional sampling method, discussed the results of testament between several organizations. They measured the same sample with different methods. We found this test method could be used to get the ambient contrast ratio in any lighting environment. It can be obtained widely in display industry, also in the international standards.

Abstract:According to the technical features and requirements of the television imaging system for tracking and measuring, we designed a TV system with focal length of 2800mm, F/11.7 and 2 omega(FOV) of 14.2'. The system is compact and easy to fabricate and align, with good image quality. Meanwhile, we performed stray light analysis with ASAP optical software, described stray light suppression techniques used in the TV for tracking and measuring, proposed a method to determine optical properties of the system components and parameters of the scattering model reasonably. We calculated the PST curve of the system for incident angle from -45 degrees to 45 degrees The results show that when the off-axis angle is larger than the critical incident angle of the sun, PST value is less than 10(-8).

Abstract:Large-size autostereoscopic 3D LED displays are commonly used in outdoor or large indoor space, and have the properties of long viewing distance and relatively low light intensity at the viewing distance. The instruments used to measure the characteristics (crosstalk, inconsistency, chromatic dispersion, etc.) of the displays should have long working distance and high sensitivity. In this paper, we propose a methodology for characteristics measurement based on a distribution photometer with a working distance of 5.76m and the illumination sensitivity of 0.001 mlx. A display panel holder is fabricated and attached on the turning stage of the distribution photometer. Specific test images are loaded on the display separately, and the luminance data at the distance of 5.76m to the panel are measured. Then the data are transformed into the light intensity at the optimum viewing distance. According to definitions of the characteristics of the 3D displays, the crosstalk, inconsistency, chromatic dispersion could be calculated. The test results and analysis of the characteristics of an autostereoscopic 3D LED display are proposed.
