Abstract:MPEG-4 is applied to varieties of current and future multimedia applications. The standard not only supports existed frame-based coding standards such as MPEG-1, MTEG-2 or H.263, but also provides content-based representation and flexible toolbox, which lead to MPEG-4 more complicated. This paper first briefly presents the implementation method of the video decoding of MPEG-4 Core Visual Profile, which is a subset of MPEG-4 standard. The Core Visual Profile is quite suitable to streaming video, which will possibly become the hot spot for the development of MPEG-4. Then, the paper proposes a design scheme for the basic hardware structure of the decoding system based on TMS320C6X DSP, and simply analyzes the decoding processing of the system.

Abstract:In this paper an optimized implementation of real-time MPEG4 encoder based on TMS320DM642 DSP of Texas Instruments, Inc. is presented. The optimization techniques include algorithm optimization and data memory access efficiency in order to reduce the complexity and improve the software parallelism. Currently, the encoder can deal with the CIF video sequence at about 25 f/s.

Abstract:The way to decode and then play back the MPEG-4 video stream was brought forward by exploiting IEKC64 which is based on DSP TMS320C64x.The whole process of designing the software for decoding and playback was probed.The central idea of the main program was discussed.The primary API functions was explained which were exploited in this project,and some pivotal codes were made clear in the main program.In the end,some advice for further improvement was given.

Abstract:This paper presents a novel architecture of MPEG audio decoder, the input audio stream will not be serialized before decoding. Barrel shift register is used to fetch data from input buffer, which improves the efficiency of decoding process substantially. Dedicated hardware is designed to deal with input and degroup. In this scheme, the computation amount of bottleneck module can be reduced to one-fourths of the original one, and the memory storage requires half of the standard synthesis filter bank. This decoder can be used in DVB and DAB source decoding and etc.

Abstract:The paper describes a DVB based HDTV audio decoder used in multi-channel extension and presents an improved algorithm for the synthesis filter bank. It is found that when the symmetry of coefficient and the similarity of the allocation tables, computational amount and memory size are reduced by more than 50%. DSP/BIOS operating system simplifies developing various DSP systems. This decoder can also be used in Digital Audio Broadcasting systems.

Abstract:TMS320DM642 is a newly digital media processor of Texas Instruments.The digital signal processor (DSP) is described and a multichannel real-time MPEG-4 video decoder system based on the DSP is realized. And the system level optimization strategies and code level optimization techniques are discussed. Experiment shows that great performance is reached by optimization techniques and strategies.

Abstract:A design scheme of Video Processing Module based on processor TMS320DM642 is introduced in this paper.The required functionality and the hardware implementation methods are described in detail. TMS320DM642 has excellent performance and considerable on-chip peripheral resources.By making full use of its advantages,a system has been built,which can code two composite videos simultaneously,and decode one network video.The module supports MPEG-4 and H.264 video coding and decoding standard widely used in the industry world.This design scheme can provide a general hardware platformfor the software engineers and can be used in various application domains.

Abstract:In this paper, we present a real time HDTV decoder chip that has a bit-rate up to 80Mbps. In this design, a parallel and pipelined architecture is adopted, which could reduce latency and lower the processing frequency. It has reasonable memory access arbitration scheme so that a smaller buffer size could be achieved. We have also used two external SDRAMs to separate the storage of reference frame and displayed picture in order to satisfy bandwidth requirement. Therefore, the transferring frequency need not to be raised, which could further reduce power dissipation. It has been successfully taped out with 0.18 μm CMOS technology.

Abstract:In this paper, we describe a HDTV video decoder that is part of Chinese national HDTV functional system project. The decoder can real-time decode MPEG-2 video PES packets at bitrate up to 60 Mb/s. The main chips are four commercial MPEG-2 MP@ML video decoders which work in parallel. This new approach leads to good system performance, less design time and lower total cost. The paper describes the hardware architecture and implementation of the video decoder in detail.

Abstract:The paper discusses an implementation of MPEG-4 simple profile video real-time encoder based on TMS320DM642.For the real-time requirement,after analyzing the hardware architecture and instruction characteristics of DM642,we present the implementation of video encoder and optimization methods.We achieve real-time encoder of CIF(352×288) pictures,which demonstrates that the high performance of DM642 can meet the requirement of video real-time encoder.

Abstract:In this paper, we propose a system-on-chip software hardware co-design for a statistical decoder. We use the context-based adaptive binary arithmetic decoder (CABAC decoder) used in the High profile of the H.264/AVC video coding standard as a design example. The design is aimed to strike a balance between software modules and hardware modules based on design constraints. It is capable of decoding one bin per clock cycle at high clock frequencies while maintaining a slim hardware footprint. Compared to existing statistical decoders, this design is aimed for a fast and compact IP core, well verified with standard video test sequence, and ideal for a SoC implementation.

Abstract:A new architecture for transport stream demultiplexer (TS Demux) in high definition television (HDTV) decoder is presented in this paper, which is able to demultiplex two TS inputs synchronously. We have pursued a hardware-based design that controlled by the software to yield high performance in the least silicon area. The key parts of the architecture, including PID filter, section filter and Memory Control Unit (MCU), are shared by the two TS inputs in terms of a time slice. Owing to the elaborate shared mechanism, our design is efficient to support more tremendous functions with less resource compared to the current scheme.

Abstract:A novel design of MPEG-2 variable length decoder for HDTV SoC platform is proposed. We design the system bus according to the AMBA specification, using the MIPS 4KcTM CPU as the embedded controller. According to the characteristic of MPEG-2 video data flow and its stratification, each processing unit is implemented with data driven architecture. Two stages of barrel shift registers are used so that each codeword can be processed in one clock period, shortening critical path and simplifying the logic of control. Timing and function simulation are performed. The RTL code of variable length decode is synthesized with 0.18 μm CMOS technology. Finally, the design is tested by XC6000 FPGA.
