Abstract:MPEG-4 video compression arithmetic is full of complexity,so it is difficult to coding in real time.This paper introduces an optimization strategy based on TI's high performance DSP-DM642.Within the powerful DSP,the encoder can deal with the D1 video sequence at about 25 f/s.

Abstract:In this paper an optimized implementation of real-time MPEG4 encoder based on TMS320DM642 DSP of Texas Instruments, Inc. is presented. The optimization techniques include algorithm optimization and data memory access efficiency in order to reduce the complexity and improve the software parallelism. Currently, the encoder can deal with the CIF video sequence at about 25 f/s.

Abstract:The paper discusses an implementation of MPEG-4 simple profile video real-time encoder based on TMS320DM642.For the real-time requirement,after analyzing the hardware architecture and instruction characteristics of DM642,we present the implementation of video encoder and optimization methods.We achieve real-time encoder of CIF(352×288) pictures,which demonstrates that the high performance of DM642 can meet the requirement of video real-time encoder.

Abstract:This paper describes the optimization techniques for a general video encoder based on TMS320DM64x/C64x DSP.The algorithm optimization,memory distribution,EDMA and TI′s function libraries usage are discussed based on DM642,and the diagrams of the algorithm implementation are provided.The techniques can be applied to a video encoder of MPEG-2,H.263 or MPEG-4.An MPEG4 encoder based on DM642 using these methods which encodes foreman images of CIF can carry out real-time encoding with 25 frames per second.

Abstract:H.264 standard achieves higher compression ratio than previous standards with additional complexity as a price to pay in implementation. To apply H.264 in mobile multimedia terminal, implementation and optimization on platform must be studied. This paper introduces some optimization ideas and describes optimization techniques to realize real-time encoder on TMS320DM642 or equivalent chip. Some corresponding experiments have been performed on the un-optimized encoder. The optimized encoder and the results are presented here. The encoding speed is improved almost ten times after the optimization, and can realize the real-time encoding on QCIF sequences.

Abstract:In order to implement a real-time compression encoding of H.264 encoder,program optimization of multiple modules,which affect H.264's encoding efficiency,is carried out according to the hardware features of TMS320DM642 chip and utilizing some methods such as intrinsics,data packaging,linear compilation.Experiment results show that the processing speed of the encoder is improved obviously due to using the proposed optimization methods.The methods will offer important application value to the development of embedded real-time video encoder.

Abstract:TMS320DM642 is a newly digital media processor of Texas Instruments.The digital signal processor (DSP) is described and a multichannel real-time MPEG-4 video decoder system based on the DSP is realized. And the system level optimization strategies and code level optimization techniques are discussed. Experiment shows that great performance is reached by optimization techniques and strategies.

Abstract:With the development of general-purpose processors (GPP) and video signal processing algorithms, it is possible to implement a software-based real-time video encoder on GPP, and its low cost and easy upgrade attract developers' interests to transfer video encoding from specialized hardware to more flexible software. In this paper, the encoding structure is set up first to support complexity scalability; then a lot of high performance algorithms are used on the key time-consuming modules in coding process; finally, at programming level, processor characteristics are considered to improve data access efficiency and processing parallelism. Other programming methods such as lookup table are adopted to reduce the computational complexity. Simulation results showed that these ideas could not only improve the global performance of video coding, but also provide great flexibility in complexity regulation.

Abstract:Because of marvellous rate distortion performance, MPEG-4 advanced simple profile (ASP) has more complexity than simple profile, which makes it difficult to implement .A serious of optimizing strategies for MPEG-4 ASP encoder was introduced based on TI C64x DSP. Keeping up the same rate distortion, encoding efficiency improved significantly which meets the generally requirement of real time implementation of encoding CIF sequence.

Abstract:This paper presents a hardware efficient high definition television (HDTV) encoder for H.264/AVC. We use a two-level mode decision (MD) mechanism to reduce the complexity and maintain the performance, and design a sharable architecture for normal mode fractional motion estimation (NFME), special mode fractional motion estimation (SFME), and luma motion compensation (LMC), to decrease the hardware cost. Based on these technologies, we adopt a four-stage macro-block pipeline scheme using an efficient memory management strategy for the system, which greatly reduces on-chip memory and bandwidth requirements. The proposed encoder uses about 1126k gates with an average Bjontegaard-Delta peak signal-to-noise ratio (BD-PSNR) decrease of 0.5 dB, compared with JM15.0. It can fully satisfy the real-time video encoding for 1080p@30 frames/s of H.264/AVC high profile.

Abstract:Compared with the previous standards, H.264 adopted some new technologies to improve the coding efficiency and coding performance at the cost of higher computational complexity. We should do some changes to better fit for implementation based on DM642. In the paper, we reviewed the H.264 algorithm and looked for the crucial points for implementation based on DM642. We introduce searching algorithm and half-pixel interpolation algorithm optimization, the emphasis is put on the assembly optimization for Intra- prediction, DCT, Quantization(Q).Our H.264 encoder can encode real-time for QCIF resolution video, 12- 18 frames per second(fps) for CIF resolution video. The decoded video pictures provide high subjective and objective quality.

Abstract:This paper discusses the optimization of the H.264/AVC video encoder in the context of a modified software implementation on a Texas Instruments TMS320DM642 digital signal processor. Several algorithmic optimizations are proposed to improve time critical parts of the codec like the quantization step and the pixel interpolation. The algorithms proposed in this paper invoke the Enhanced Direct Memory Access (EDMA) Controller, intrinsics and look-up tables to accelerate the encoding and do not affect the image Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio (PSNR) or compression performance. The computational acceleration gain of these algorithms are the foundation of our real time 30 CIF frames/second baseline implementation.

Abstract:As an important content of MPEG-4 compression standard, pixel-compression module is used to reduce the correlation of picture using discrete cosine transform (DCT), quantization, AC/DC prediction and DPCM. Generally, this module will consume most of the CPU time except for the motion estimation due to its complicated matrix operation. In this paper, a fast DCT/IDCT algorithm is employed and implemented on TMS320C6204 fixed point DSP. In order to satisfy the real-time requirement, an efficient optimization method of C code for pixel-compression module is proposed and evaluated. Experimental results indicate that better performance can be achieved for our work.

Abstract:With the development of video encoding techniques, video compression algorithms become more complicated. A real-time high resolution video encoder cannot be implemented with a single CPU or DSP. We design and implement a MPEG-4 video encoder based on coordinated DSP-FPGA techniques. The FPGA module takes the tasks of video acquisition, YUV separation and data I/O functions, while the DSP is dedicated for video compression. We optimize the data flow scheme of the MPEG-4 video compression to utilize the DSP's on-chip memory. A MB (macro block) type judging algorithm is proposed based on MB's space complexity. It effectively reduces the computational complexity of the video compression. The experimental results indicate that our MPEG-4 video encoder implementation can encode 39.2 fps in CIF resolution.

Abstract:Real-time video encoder following ITU-T H.263 recommendation is described and relative computational loads of various encoding phases are evaluated. The current implementation shows that CIF size (352×288) images can be encoded in real-time by TMS320DM642 when computationally light motion estimation routines and basic H.263 coding mode is used. The real-time performance can be achieved using C-code and some optimization technique like SAD (Sum of Absolute Difference) with intrinsic function. In addition, careful memory management design for program code and application data are required. With presented coding scheme, up to 25 fps can be achieved.

Abstract:MPEG-4 is applied to varieties of current and future multimedia applications. The standard not only supports existed frame-based coding standards such as MPEG-1, MTEG-2 or H.263, but also provides content-based representation and flexible toolbox, which lead to MPEG-4 more complicated. This paper first briefly presents the implementation method of the video decoding of MPEG-4 Core Visual Profile, which is a subset of MPEG-4 standard. The Core Visual Profile is quite suitable to streaming video, which will possibly become the hot spot for the development of MPEG-4. Then, the paper proposes a design scheme for the basic hardware structure of the decoding system based on TMS320C6X DSP, and simply analyzes the decoding processing of the system.

Abstract:With the rapid development of microprocessor, embedded multimedia products are gradually becoming the mainstream in the market. However, the high coding efficiency enabled by the H.264 video compression standard comes with substantially greater algorithmic complexity as compared to that of existing standards. And this additional complexity results in many difficulties in the implementation and optimization tasks. This paper firstly analyses the block size prediction algorithms of intra & inter frame, and then improves it through autocorrelation and combining sum of absolute difference (SAD) and analysis of texture difference respectively. The experimental results indicated that the new algorithms achieved significant improvement as compared to the original encoder. Finally, some optimization techniques about H.264 on TMS320DM642 DSP platform, which can effectively enhance the video coding speed, are proposed.
