Abstract:The paper describes a DVB based HDTV audio decoder used in multi-channel extension and presents an improved algorithm for the synthesis filter bank. It is found that when the symmetry of coefficient and the similarity of the allocation tables, computational amount and memory size are reduced by more than 50%. DSP/BIOS operating system simplifies developing various DSP systems. This decoder can also be used in Digital Audio Broadcasting systems.

Abstract:This article introduces a new BCH (127, 113, t=2) short (67, 53, t=2) decoding algorithm adopted by TPS information extraction in the DVB_T receiver, and also discusses the FPGA implementation of this algorithm. Compared with the traditional BCH decoding algorithms, this one can fix both random and abrupt errors,and has the advantages of improved correcting capacity, fast decoding speed, simple hardware structure and etc.

Abstract:In order to resolve the problems of large area,complicated routing and high power in decoding low-density parity-check codes(LDPC),this work presented a LDPC decoding approach,which is specified with parity check matrices based on circulant matrices,with structured memory and a corresponding partial parallel decoding architecture.By studying the structured parity matrix,the characteristic of the message passing between bit nodes and check nodes was indicated,and then a predetermined scheme of message storing with high flexibility and efficiency was proposed.Based on this scheme,a partial parallel decoding architecture was provided which significantly reduced the power and critical paths.Simulation of the LDPC in Chinese digital terrestrial television broadcasting standard on FPGA platform showed that the proposed decoding approach over AWGN channel achieved good performance,and suffered negligible performance loss compared with the double precision while effectively reducing the operation complexity.

Abstract:Cyclic Redundancy Codes (CRCs) are useful to detect burst errors in storage and communications systems. This paper analyzes the theoretical principle of CRC and the parallel CRC structure. Besides, this paper proposes a design method for the parallel CRC, which can generate parallel CRC circuits with different parallel bit width, different CRC generating polynomial, and different input data length. The FPGA performance (LUT consumption and max frequency) of our approach is comparable to the state-of-art parallel CRC method. This paper may be useful for parallel CRC circuit design.

Abstract:Parallel cyclic redundancy check (CRC) architecture for high-throughput forward error correction decoders in broadband communication systems is proposed. Large amount of data bits are needed to be transmitted in a unit of a transport block (TB) in broadband communication systems. Owing to implementation complexity, TB is segmented into multiple small units of code blocks (CBs). The parallel CRC architecture proposed recursively calculates the TB CRC using individual CB CRCs. The proposed parallel CRC architecture is used to balance optimally between memory requirement and computational complexity.

Abstract:A cyclic redundancy check (CRC) is a widely used technique in data communication for detecting data transmission errors. However, existing FPGA-based parallel CRC hardware implementation schemes often face problems of excessive resource utilization and timing convergence difficulties in high-bandwidth networks. In addition, these problems are further exacerbated by the variable length of the end of the checksum data frame during data transmission. To address these challenges, this paper proposes a parallel CRC computation method based on precomputed seed values for bit-width normalization (named PSV-WN-CRC). The algorithm selects the corresponding primitive seed value according to the length of the data frame tail and converts the CRC computation with arbitrary bit-width to the CRC computation with fixed bit-width, thus adapting to the case of the indefinite length of the data frame tail. Based on this algorithm, this paper designs an efficient parallel CRC circuit on FPGA to reduce the consumption of resources. The experimental results show that the CRC algorithm and circuit proposed in this paper implemented on Virtex UltraScale+ FPGAs with 1024-bit wide CRC consumes only 5981 LUTs and achieves a maximum throughput of 392.2 Gbps. The method effectively reduces the resource consumption and improves the maximum throughput as compared to three advanced works.

Abstract:This paper presents an advanced ID interpolation architecture for AVS video coding standard. Previous approaches have demerit of low data throughput. The proposed design parallel filters the horizontal data and serial filters the vertical data, thus greatly improve the throughput. Experimental result shows it outperforms conventional designs in processing cycle and chip area. The prototype design costs 26.2 K gates when synthesized at 108 MHz using 0.18 mum CMOS technology.

Abstract:A new architecture for transport stream demultiplexer (TS Demux) in high definition television (HDTV) decoder is presented in this paper, which is able to demultiplex two TS inputs synchronously. We have pursued a hardware-based design that controlled by the software to yield high performance in the least silicon area. The key parts of the architecture, including PID filter, section filter and Memory Control Unit (MCU), are shared by the two TS inputs in terms of a time slice. Owing to the elaborate shared mechanism, our design is efficient to support more tremendous functions with less resource compared to the current scheme.

Abstract:This paper presents a design procedure for an HDTV encoder with parallel processing architecture, which could get out the dilemma lying in high-speed digital processing circuitry and real-time compression. In the proposed system, an original HDTV picture is split to multiple sub-pictures of MPEG-2 MP@ML level, and then multiple sub-picture encoding modules (SEM) perform, respectively and simultaneously, MPEG-2 coding in the light of a joint rate control scheme. A normative HDTV PES stream of MPEG-2 MP@HL is built up by compositing multiple ES streams with different bit-rate. The paper hits the high points and supply appropriate implementation strategy during the propose design framework.

Abstract:To support HDTV application, we have achieved a design for reordering, inverse transform and inverse quantization of the coefficient data, which come from the CABAC decoder of H.264 main profile. Using the high efficiently structured SRAM, this design connects the reordering of coefficient data to the inverse transform and inverse quantization efficiently and the circuit resources are used more sufficiently. Furthermore, it is a best strategy to solve the bottle-neck problem of the time that the coefficient data reordering costs. Meanwhile, the arithmetic expression of the luminance and chroma under the intra-prediction and inter-prediction pattern respectively has been properly modified in order to build the reusable circuit.

Abstract:A novel architecture of transport stream demultiplexer (TS Demux) in high definition television (HDTV) decoder is presented in this paper, which utilizes a cooperation scheme between hardware and software. TS parsing is decomposed into two phases: filtering and analyzing, which are fulfilled by hardware and software respectively. Meanwhile, the hardware filtering is controlled by the software. Two filtering layers, PID and section filtering, are supported by hardware, which can extract any format data in TS stream quickly. Compared to the current parsing scheme for TS packets, TS Demux discussed here needs less CPU resource and is easy to update as well.

Abstract:This paper researched a kind of Reed-Solomon (RS) encoder under CCSDS standard,which used time domain coding method.It analysed the principle of Reed-Solomon(RS) encode,the design of basic unit circuit,including Galois field adder and multiplier,and addressed the application method of parallel multiplier with constant coefficients under the natural base.This paper designed a RS (255,223) encoder with symmetric coefficients of generator polynomial under the QuartusⅡ5.0 environment.In addition,figured out the simulation results,and results of the output were correct by the test.The RS (255,223) encoder designed by this method not only effectively simplifies the control unit and has the regular modular structure,but also is easy for FPGA implementation and can be used in high-speed occasions.

Abstract:As the complexity of communications and signal processing systems increases, so does the number of blocks or elements that they have. In many cases, some of those elements operate in parallel, performing the same processing on different signals. A typical example of those elements are digital filters. The increase in complexity also poses reliability challenges and creates the need for fault-tolerant implementations. A scheme based on error correction coding has been recently proposed to protect parallel filters. In that scheme, each filter is treated as a bit, and redundant filters that act as parity check bits are introduced to detect and correct errors. In this brief, the idea of applying coding techniques to protect parallel filters is addressed in a more general way. In particular, it is shown that the fact that filter inputs and outputs are not bits but numbers enables a more efficient protection. This reduces the protection overhead and makes the number of redundant filters independent of the number of parallel filters. The proposed scheme is first described and then illustrated with two case studies. Finally, both the effectiveness in protecting against errors and the cost are evaluated for a field-programmable gate array implementation.

Abstract:In this paper, we propose a rate-compatible (RC) parallel concatenated punctured polar (PCPP) codes for incremental redundancy hybrid automatic repeat request (IR-HARQ) transmission schemes, which can transmit multiple data blocks over a time-varying channel. The PCPP coding scheme can provide RC polar coding blocks in order to adapt to channel variations. First, we investigate an improved random puncturing (IRP) pattern for the PCPP coding scheme due to the code-rate and block length limitations of conventional polar codes. The proposed IRP algorithm only select puncturing bits from the frozen bits set and keep the information bits unchanged during puncturing, which can improve 0.2–1 dB decoding performance more than the existing random puncturing (RP) algorithm. Then, we develop a RC IR-HARQ transmission scheme based on PCPP codes. By analyzing the overhead of the previous successful decoded PCPP coding block in our IR-HARQ scheme, the optimal initial code-rate can be determined for each new PCPP coding block over time-varying channels. Simulation results show that the average number of transmissions is about 1.8 times for each PCPP coding block in our RC IR-HARQ scheme with a 2-level PCPP encoding construction, which can reduce half of the average number of transmissions than the existing RC polar coding schemes.

Abstract:We present the hardware design of the packetized elementary stream (PES) combiner in the third generation HDTV encoder in China, which is a key part in the HDTV encoding system. In our design, the input HDTV video signal is divided into six sub-images, and a horizontal six-block segmentation method is implemented in the HDTV encoder. Each of the sub-images is coded by one MP@ML encoding ASIC, which works at a different bitrate. The PES combiner combines all the output bit streams into one HDTV PES. The coding parameters and timing stamps are modified according to the requirements of MPEG-2 MP@HL. All these PES combiner functions are implemented by one complex programmable logic device (CPLD), which makes the whole encoding system compact and stable. The detailed discussions of hardware design are also presented in this paper. Experimental results show that the quality of decoded image is improved over the past two generation encoders, and constant bitrate can be maintained at the same time.

Abstract:Universal pipeline architecture for parallel cyclic redundancy check (CRC) implementation was proposed. This paper studied the primary reason for calculation speed limitation and concluded a theoretical result in parallel CRC calculation from the polynomial theory. The feedback matrix operation in parallel CRC calculation was optimized using similarity transformation based on the theory of rational canonical form in Linear Algebra and innovatively derived high-speed pipeline architecture for parallel CRC implementation in any condition. CRC encoders in different parallelism were implemented to evaluate the performance. The results show that CRC encoder based on pipeline architecture is much better than others in coding speed and the requirement for data integrity checking high speed application is satisfied.
