Abstract:Reed Solomon (RS) codes providing an efficient capability for correcting burst errors have been widely used. Some work has already been done in developing VLSI decoders for RS codes. This paper proposes a new VLSI design of RS decoder using ASIP based on software ideas. It shortens the design time and enhances the reliability of VLSI. Abstract:The paper describes a DVB based HDTV audio decoder used in multi-channel extension and presents an improved algorithm for the synthesis filter bank. It is found that when the symmetry of coefficient and the similarity of the allocation tables, computational amount and memory size are reduced by more than 50%. DSP/BIOS operating system simplifies developing various DSP systems. This decoder can also be used in Digital Audio Broadcasting systems.

Abstract:To reduce the computational amount and memory size of the HDTV(for DVB) audio decoder, the algorithm of sub-band synthesis filter has been optimized in this paper. Based on C-language simulation of the optimized decoder, fixed-point code has been converted from the floating-point code. This decoder can be realized in real-time on a fixed-point DSP, and it has a wide range of applications in HDTV source decoding and etc.

Abstract:In order to resolve the problems of large area,complicated routing and high power in decoding low-density parity-check codes(LDPC),this work presented a LDPC decoding approach,which is specified with parity check matrices based on circulant matrices,with structured memory and a corresponding partial parallel decoding architecture.By studying the structured parity matrix,the characteristic of the message passing between bit nodes and check nodes was indicated,and then a predetermined scheme of message storing with high flexibility and efficiency was proposed.Based on this scheme,a partial parallel decoding architecture was provided which significantly reduced the power and critical paths.Simulation of the LDPC in Chinese digital terrestrial television broadcasting standard on FPGA platform showed that the proposed decoding approach over AWGN channel achieved good performance,and suffered negligible performance loss compared with the double precision while effectively reducing the operation complexity.

Abstract:Trellis Code Modulation (TCM) has been widely used because it can obtain 2.55∼7.37 dB coding gain without bandwidth expansion or reduction of the effective information rates. Since Viterbi decoder plays an important role in the realization of HDTV system, we conduct the research and development on integration of Viterbi decoder. This paper proposes a new VLSI design of Viterbi decoder using ASIPs based on hardware/software co-design idea. It reduces the total design time and enhances the reliability of VLSI. We have successfully used this method for the design of Viterbi decoder in the ASTC-HDTV receiver chip.

Abstract:To resolve the incapability of decoding Reed-Solomon (RS) codes of conventional RS decoders in IEEE802.16d system, optimized design architecture for rate-variable shortened-and-punctured RS decoder was presented. A symmetric generator polynomial was applied, and the number of Galois-field (GF) multiplications was reduced in the encoder. In the decoder, the key function was solved by altering the initial condition of the modified Euclid algorithm (MEA), and a novel shortened-and-punctured RS decoder architecture was proposed based on conventional punctured RS decoder. The design architecture was implemented and verified in field programmable gate arrays (FGPA) chips, and the maximum decoding throughput of six types of RS codes in IEEE802.16d system was analyzed at a particular working clock respectively. The results show that the proposed decoder architecture can achieve a decoding throughput of at least 30 Mbps, and satisfy the requirement of IEEE802.16d system.

Abstract:This paper details on the design of DVB-S2 demodulator. The architecture of the demodulator compliant with the CCM (Constant Coding and Modulation) mode comprises timing recovery unit, frame synchronization unit, frequency recovery unit and frequency phase recovery unit. The system is easier to hardware implementation comparing with the system provided in [41 and [8]. After the key demodulation algorithms were discussed, a quantitative result is given, this allows us to draw conclusions concerning the achievable system performance under realistic complexity assumptions.

By using Secondary Encode and special sync-searching byte-recovering circuits, not only the processing time reduces remarkably, but also needs less hardware resource. Abstract:In order to solve the problem of complex architecture and large resource consuming in RS decoder,a dynamically reconfigurable RS decoder is presented.In the decoder,the syndrome calculation and Chien's search algorithm can be realized in the reconfigurable syndrome and Chien's module(RSCM) by reconfiguring the circuit architecture dynamically at discrete time.A decode control module based on state machine is given and is in charge of controlling the function modules in RS decoder.The design is realized by VHDL language in Quartus II 7.2.As it is shown in the result,the encoder could reduce the consuming in hardware resource,and the maximum frequency of this chip could reach at 124MHz.

Abstract:A new architecture for transport stream demultiplexer (TS Demux) in high definition television (HDTV) decoder is presented in this paper, which is able to demultiplex two TS inputs synchronously. We have pursued a hardware-based design that controlled by the software to yield high performance in the least silicon area. The key parts of the architecture, including PID filter, section filter and Memory Control Unit (MCU), are shared by the two TS inputs in terms of a time slice. Owing to the elaborate shared mechanism, our design is efficient to support more tremendous functions with less resource compared to the current scheme.

Abstract:In this paper, we use Altera corporation's RS、NCO、FIR IP core and some modules in the Simulink、DSP_Builder, fast build a low intermediate frequency RS (204,188) +DQPSK modulation/demodulation system, validating the system's function in Simulink and Modelsim environment , finally implementing the system in Stratix II DSP development board and testing the system . Simulation results show that RS (204, 188) coding gain of this scheme can achieve 3￣4dB at bit error rates around 1e- 3 compared with the uncoded DQPSK.

Abstract:This paper presents the Reed-Solomon (RS) decoder for multiband OFDM(MB-OFDM) ultra-wideband(UWB). In UWB system, RS (23,17) code is adopted. To achieve high throughput and small area, two iterative Modified Euclidean (ME) blocks are proposed to work by turns in this paper. The architectures of syndrome block, ME block, Chien search block, Forney block are presented later in detail. At last, this architecture was implemented with 0.18 mum standard CMOS technology and can achieve 2 Gbps throughput with the clock frequency of 250 MHz.

Abstract:Dolby AC3 standard is used as the audio decoding standard to research the hardware/software co-design method of HDTV audio decoding based on Virgo-IP-Core and a new method is present to realize the hardware/software partition by setting models for the key sub-functions of AC3 decoding program. That is, after decoding AC3 bit stream by software, the models are set up for the key sub-functions to get the extended instructions of RISC core. Through this extension, the speed of AC3 decoding is fastened, the memory space is reduced and the gates of the whole system are lessened. Next, the detail hardware of extended instruction is given. Finally, the performance of the whole system is analyzed by using the hardware/software co-evaluation method.

Abstract:Based on the syndrome computation,modified Euclidean algorithm,Chien's-searching and Forney algorithm,a novel RS decoder for CMMB system is proposed and realized.The RS decoding algorithm is simulated with MATLAB,and then the decoder is functionally verified and synthesized with tools of VCS,Design Compiler and ISE,respectively.The results show that the gate count of our design is as small as the best structure.Our proposed RS decoder has been tested and applied in a CMMB system.

Abstract:In the inertial platform system, some data are transmitted by optical fiber under the control of the optical fiber transmission module. Some key data like platform control parameters have a direct impact on the state of the platform. So the accuracy of the control parameters must be guaranteed by error- correcting to ensure the security of the platform system.
