Abstract:Wishbone is a free and open interface standard of OCB for SoC,and is very popular in current application.A system programmed in Perl/Tk for the customed auto-generated wishbone bus is given.This platform independent system has a friendly con-figuration GUI and is easy-to-use.According to a specific system,the wishbone bus is flexibly configured to generate different style target HDLs automatically,which greatly improves the wishbone bus design.

Abstract:The performance of an on-chip interconnection architecture used for communication between IP cores depends on the efficiency of its bus architecture. Any bus architecture having advantages of faster bus clock speed, extra data transfer cycle, improved bus width and throughput is highly desirable for a low cost, reduced time-to-market and efficient System-on-Chip (SoC). This paper presents a survey of WISHBONE bus architecture and its comparison with three other on-chip bus architectures viz. Advanced Micro controller Bus Architecture (AMBA) by ARM, CoreConnect by IBM and Avalon by Altera. The WISHBONE Bus Architecture by Silicore Corporation appears to be gaining an upper edge over the other three bus architecture types because of its special performance parameters like the use of flexible arbitration scheme and additional data transfer cycle (Read-Modify-Write cycle). Moreover, its IP Cores are available free for use requiring neither any registration nor any agreement or license.

Abstract:A chip test architecture implementing IP core test reuse in SOC design generally includes two parts: 1) a test access mechanism (TAM), which transmits test stimulus and response, and 2) a chip test controller, which realizes test control. A chip test architecture based on test bus is analyzed in the paper, and test scheduling in SOC is explained. Finally, the design of the chip test controller is presented, which is capable of carrying out test scheduling.

Abstract:A simultaneous reconfigurable multi-chip access bus interface for application in high-bandwidth multi-drop parallel interconnections such as a memory bus has been developed. The interface utilizes a source synchronous signaling and direct-sequence code-division multiple access (CDMA) technique for high bus concurrency and low channel latency. The prototype chip, fabricated in 0.18-/spl mu/m CMOS and tested in a 10-cm test board achieves a data rate of 2 Gb/s/pin with multiple access and re-configurability between four (2-to-2) off-chip I/Os.

Abstract:The electronics industry has entered the era of multi-million-gate chips, and there Xs no turning back. This technology promises new levels of integration on a single chip, called the System-on-a-Chip (SoC) design, but also presents significant challenges to the chip designer. Processing cores on a single chip, may number well into the high tens within the next decade, given the current rate of advancements, [1]. Interconnection networks in such an environment are, therefore, becoming more and more important [2]. Currently on-chip interconnection networks are mostly implemented using buses. For SoC applications, design reuse becomes easier if standard internal connection buses are used for interconnecting components of the design. Design teams developing modules intended for future reuse can design interfaces for the standard bus around their particular modules. This allows future designers to slot the reuse module into their new design simply, which is also based around the same standard bus [3]. In this paper we give an overview of the more popular on-chip bus-based interconnection networks such as AMBA, Avalon CoreConnect, STBus, Wishbone, etc. The main characteristics of the considered buses in respect to topology, arbitration method, bus-width, and types of data transfers are discussed.

Abstract:On-chip bus works as the interconnection of integrated system in SOC design based on IP reuse technology,it is in charge of the normal communication between various portable IP cores.As a bridge of communication between various modules,on-chip bus becomes a key issue in SOC design.This paper,based on AMBA Rev2.0 AHB-Lite bus protocol,introduces a method of designing an AMBA interface between memory controller and AHB bus.As a result,both of system-specific network Processor Engine(PE)and general purpose embedded processor(ARM)can access to off-chip external memory by sharing this memory controller.

Abstract:The Digital Signal Processor (DSP) is a specialized microprocessor, with its architecture optimized for the operational needs of digital signal processing. It often uses special memory architectures that are able to fetch multiple data and/or instructions at the same time. With applying to WISHBONE bus interface it is much easier to connect the cores, and therefore much easier to create a custom System on Chip (SOC) such as the DSP. In order to increase the data transaction from DSP core to WISHBONE Slave module, this paper proposes a special Direct Memory Access (DMA) which supports a three-ports interface of data transaction. This DMA also offers burst mode and the address list mode of data transaction which can speed the data transmission and make it more flexible. In the process of the design and implement, a synchronization of asynchronous clock issue needs to be solved. The final implementations have been done in ASIC. The functionality of the design is synthesized using Design Compiler and placement and routing by IC compiler.

Abstract:As introduced in Chap. 4 one step of the SoC-based entropy coder design flow is SoC features introduction. Design of system bus interface for the CABAC encoder enhances portability and reusability of the design in the SoC video encoder system. In this chapter, design of master and slave interfaces of WISHBONE Wishbone system bus of CABAC encoder is discussed after the introduction of WISHBONE system bus specifications. The crossbar system bus inter-connection is also designed, which enables convenient integration of the proposed CABAC encoder with other IP blocks in the H.264/AVC encoding system.

Abstract:Tailorable SOC design has the most streamlined structure and needs the least resources ,which can achieve the best efficiency and satisfy various applications .Interface protocol of tailorable SOC is proposed ,which is compatible to Wishbone interface protocol . It includes the overall structure ,interface definition and the implementation of interface adapter . This paper presents thelimitations of the Shared Bus. Abstract:CBM (Compressed Baryonic Matter) is mainly used to study QCD phase diagram of strong interactions in high and moderate temperature region. Before the next generation GBTx based CBM DAQ system is built up, the DPB (Data Processing Board) layer is used in data readout and data pre-processing, where a general FPGA FMC carrier board named AFCK is used. This paper mainly describes the management of the Inter-integrated Circuit (I2C) devices on AFCK and the FMCs it carries via IPBus, an FPGA-based slow control bus used in CBM DAQ system. On AFCK, the connection of IPBus depends on the correct initialization of a set of I2C devices, including the I2C-bus multiplexer (choosing correct I2C bus), the clock crosspoint switch (providing the 125MHz needed by 1000BASE-X/SGMII), the serial EEPROM with a EUI-48 address (providing the AFCK MAC address). An independent initial module can execute an I2C command sequence stored in a ROM, through which the FPGA can write to/read from the I2C devices without IPBus, so that the related I2C devices are correctly initialized and the necessary preparation for the IPBus start-up is fulfilled. After the initialization, a Wishbone I2C master core is used as an IPbus slave and all other I2C devices can be configured directly via IPBus. All the design has been fully tested in the CBM DPB design.

Abstract:With the exponential increase in chip density and complexity has caused an increasingly serious problem of power consumption ,low‐power technology draw attention of designers .In the view of commonly used SOC bus do not support power management ,a power management bus ,providing information aware ,is proposed .The salve interface of power management bus can turn clocks off and even switch the supply rail or ground off when not required ,which can dramatically reduce dynamic power and static power respectively . To reduce the overhead introduced by power management bus ,we design a lightweight protocol with brief and flexible operation .What’s the remarkable difference with traditional bus is its parallelism . Experimental results show the functional completeness and robustness of the compatibility .

Abstract:In this paper, a novel mechanism of on chip interconnect based on MultiLayer AHB Lite standard is proposed. On one hand it provides the feature that multiple masters are able to access the bus simultaneously as long as there is no competition for the same slave. On the other hand this mechanism is easy to scale, reuse and consumes less resources. Distributed address decoding and master arbitration are employed. Each slave has its own data selection module with a built-in arbiter attached. All the masters are connected to the master interfaces of the data selection module and the module decides which master gains the access of the slave when a bus competition occurs. External modules can be attached to each data selection module, which makes it possible to employ different master arbitration strategies for each slave. This interconnect mechanism has ultra low latency and low arbitration costs, hence is suitable for embedded systems with strong real time requirement. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2012.
