Investigation on the Difficulties in the Teaching of Chemical Reaction Engineering and Teaching Experiences

Abstract:Chemical Reaction Engineering is a core course of Chemical Engineering and Technology with both properties of theory and engineering. On the basis of the teaching for undergraduate students as well as the investigations on the graduate students, it was proposed that the close relations of chemical reaction engineering with mathematics, the basic specialty courses like Principles of Chemical Engineering and Physical Chemistry, the specialized courses and the engineering practice would be one of the reasons to account for the difficulty both in teaching and learning. Upon this realization, the corresponding teaching reform was carried out and the experiences were summarized. Due to its highly integrated character, Chemical Reaction Engineering would play a role of bridge in the teaching system of chemical engineering. To take full advantage of this character of Chemical Reaction Engineering is important for the training of the talents of chemical engineering.
