Challenges and Innovations on Chemical Engineering Education

Abstract:This paper starts with a brief survey on the chemical engineering education at home and abroad,from which the problems and challenges are pointed out.The authors argue that an innovated recognition of the essential role of this engineering discipline in the context of human efforts towards a better life,the reorganization the curriculum that meet the demands of today's engineering practice and the way in teaching are the important factors to attract young talents and to direct their efforts towards the renaissance of chemical engineering.A brief overview of the development of chemical engineering disciplinary paradigm is outlined,followed by the discussion on the current curriculum, the way to teach and the organization of faculties,which are the fundamentals in the university education.Examples are given to the problem-oriented courses which may inspire students to identify and solve the problem under a multidisciplinary background.
