Abstract:The recent development of the variable structure control (VSC) is discussed in this paper. It can be summarized as follows: main theoretical problems of the variable structure control (VSC) are investigated deeply and comprehensively; some new synthesis methods of VSC are presented and are extended to many kinds of systems, thus the distance between theory and practice is shortens largely; variable structure control integrates with other control strategies (for example, classical control, adaptive control and fuzzy control, etc.). The key problems for the study of VSC are the robustness and the reduction of chattering. With the development of VSC theoretical research, many real application results are reported recently.

Abstract:More and more control elements are incorporated into a single system by the information technology such as internet of things.Consequently,the scale of a control system increases quickly,and the control specification becomes more and more complicated.Any logic mistake that violates a given control specification may lead to a serious industrial failure and even security issue.Besides,there is a"state space explosion"for discrete event systems.These make a challenge for designing and debugging programs running in programmable logic controllers(PLCs)or field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs).The supervisory control theory of discrete event systems is to implement a given complicated logic specification by formal methods. The specification such as interlock,sequence,mutual exclusion,and language is expressed by a Petri net or automata.It is in turn translated into codes that can be executed by a PLC or FPGA.This paper surveys these formal methods for synthesis of logical controller,which are to shorten the costed time for control programs,to ease the reuse of them,and to increase the safety and reliability of them.

Abstract:Tension structures are typical flexible structures which are apt to vibrate under various dynamic excitations.When the structural vibration is considerable large,it will affect the function and safety of the structure,thus vibration control of the structure is needed.A study on the dynamic control of tension structures is carried out.The electromechanical control equation of tension structures is formulated,and a nonlinear instantaneous optimal control algorithm is developed by introducing Newmark method.Active control of a cable dome with linear quadratic regulator and instantaneous optimal control is implemented respectively.A comparison between the control efficiencies of the two control algorithms is conducted.The effect of the number and layout of actuators to the control efficiency is investigated.The feasibility of the proposed methods used to control the vibration of tension structures is verified,and a guide to determine the number and layout of actuators is provided.

The auctorial opinion of the challenge proposition is put forward which is fallen across from the three aspects: modeling, control, and optimization in the engineering application of the control theory. The modeling problem of industrial noise is presented. And the intelligent method is pointed out to deal with the antinomy of the performance and robustness of the control systems based on the problem in the industry control practice work. It brings forward that it recur to the expert system to adjust the feasibility area adaptive to solve large scale engineering problem.And it points out the good mutual enhancement process between the control theory and its application.

Abstract:The advantages of both variable structure control and decentralized control have motivated us to investigate the decentralized variable structure control methods for uncertain interconnected systems. A set of global reaching conditions based on the linear transformation of sliding surface for multi-input subsystems are presented. The proposed decentralized variable structure control laws can be used to deal with the problems of large-scale systems with the unknown interconnections.

Abstract:The existing control theory is divided into two parts in this paper, i.e. precise control theory and fuzzy control theory. After investigating the advantages and disadvantages of the precise control and fuzzy control respectively, the so-called fuzzy-precise combined control strategy is proposed from the view of practical application in the paper. This new strategy will bring maximum control benefits with minimum design efforts. As the application background, the fuzzy-precise combined control strategy has applied into four full scale paper machine control systems, and all of them got good control results.

The paper consists of the following sections: section 1 is an introduction; section 2 deals with passive energy dissipation; section 3 deals with active control; section 4 deals with hybrid and semiactive control systems; section 5 discusses sensors for structural control; section 6 deals with smart material systems; section 7 deals with health monitoring and damage detection; and section 8 deals with research needs. Abstract:Structural control is emerging technology for hazard mitigation in civil engineering and has been comprehensively studied over the world. This paper introduces the research and applications of passive control, active control and smart control, which include novel passive dampers, functional materials and smart dampers, active control systems, and their performance investigations; control algorithms for nonlinear structures; design methods adopted in the National Seismic Design Code for Buildings; and applications of structural control technology in buildings, bridges and offshore platform. Considering that one structure can have various failure mode and different failure modes make the structure with different reliability. The failure mode control, which makes the structure have highest reliability, is also studied.

Abstract:With the development of society economy, the scale of control system is becoming larger, and the process control system is also becoming more and more complex. Process industries in general, but especially those handle explosive, flammable, or toxic substances, require the utmost safety in control system. Especially in complex system, it is a significant research that how to use existing system resource to optimize system and improve system safety.The process control field today is such that what were considered advanced control techniques even ten to twenty years ago are becoming commonplace. One of the strongest process control trends is the implementation of digital communication with field control devices. More and more traditional distributed control systems are being augmented with smart field instruments. Foundation Fieldbus is a digital control network that interlinks those "smart" field instruments like sensors and actuators in process control environment. In the Foundation Fieldbus all the control algorithms and the data acquiring are executed exclusively by structures called function blocks. Those smart instruments are equipped with Function Block.This paper will try to give the approaches to improve the performance based on the Function Blocks, beginning with introduction of Function Blocks of Foundation Fieldbus and their structure and execution process in section 2. In section 3, an example of fermentation process is given. How to structure the control system and how to implement distributed control highly based on function blocks are discussed here. The problem to realize system safety with Function Blocks and their programming language is presented in the section 4. Conclusion is given at last in this paper.

Abstract:With the development of technology, the more sensor and actuator are used on the building structure control, the more fault probability will become. This study introduces hierarchical decentralized fault tolerate controller design methods, which are constructed for sensor and actuator failures, based on Lyapunov approach. And it constructs cantilever active control experiments by Matlab/xPC control method. According to the results of experiments, the system of hierarchical decentralized fault tolerate control has a good control effect and damping performance. ©2009 IEEE.

Abstract:Much of structural control research and applications in civil engineering have been concerned with structures equipped with passive, hybrid, or active control devices in order to enhance structural performance under extraordinary loads. In most cases, the structure and the control system are individually designed and optimized. On the other hand, an exciting consequence of structural control research is that it also opens the door to new possibilities in structural forms and configurations, such as lighter buildings or bridges with longer spans without compromising on structural performance. Moreover, this can only be achieved through integrated design of structures with control elements as an integral part. This paper addresses the integrated design of structures with imbedded control systems and devices. Simultaneous optimization of such controlled structures is considered, showing that new structural forms and configurations can be achieved through integrated design.

Abstract:Most existing active structural control methods do not consider the structure uncertainties.To deal with this problem,a feasible active control method is presented based on control theory focusing on the AMD(active mass damper) benchmark test structure system.The feedback interconnection in AMD control system is designed based on the control- oriented mathematical model which is obtained by system identification.The process of weighting-function selection and the controller design method are also given.Finally,the experimental results show the effectiveness and robustness of the controller.

Abstract:Research on the control of the structure has been done a lot already, but control-structure interaction was seldom considered. Some scholars have done research on actuator-structure interaction and developed hydraulic and linear motor model respectively and presented that there exits generally a dynamic coupling between the actuator and the structure. This paper mainly investigates the actuator-structure interaction in the active control of structures. First, Analyse the structrual dynamical characters and responses under the wind load and confirm an AMD control programme appropriate to the structure. Then Analyse and compare the control effect of coupling and uncoupling. The investigation includes three aspects aimed at the two actuators: hydraulic actuators and linear motor. First, influence of coupling and uncoupling for the structure is discussed; second, we adjust parameters of the two actuators to investigate the influence on the coupling; finally, we adjust control parameters to investigate the influence on the coupling.

Abstract:The design of structural active control with minimum control effort was investigated.The aim is to design a state feedback controller,that the closed-loop system has desired eigenvalues,and a system performance function is optimized.By utilizing design degrees of freedom offered by parametric eigenstructure assignment,a parametric expression for the system performance index was proposed.Thus the optimization problem was changed into a minimization problem with some constraints and the optimized variables are a group of parameters.An algorithm was proposed for this minimization and utilized the original system data,and thus it is simple to use in applications.A three-story shearing model under earthquake excitation was analyzed by using the proposed algorithm and the simulation results show the effect of this algorithm.

Abstract:Decentralized control strategy is more suitable for structural control of large-scale structural systems as it increases in the feasibility of control implementation and decreases the risk on the failure of the control system compared with the conventional centralized control approach. In this article, a decentralized control algorithm is proposed for large-scale linear building structures. A large-scale building structure is divided into a set of smaller substructures based on its finite element model. Interconnections between adjacent substructures are treated as disturbances to the individual substructure. Each substructure is controlled by its own local controller using linear quadratic Gaussian control scheme with acceleration measurements as feedback signals. A computational procedure is developed for the recursive estimation of the unknown disturbances to each substructure. Two cases, with substructure interface measurement and without substructure interface measurement respectively, are considered. A numerical example of the decentralized control of the 20-story Structural Engineers Association of California (SAC) benchmark linear building under seismic excitation is studied to evaluate the performance of the proposed algorithm. Simulation results demonstrate that the decentralized control algorithm has quite good control performance compared with the conventional centralized control approach. Therefore, the proposed decentralized control algorithm is viable for structural control of large-scale linear structural systems.

Abstract:In order to improve the stability and intelligent control level of Automatic X-ray Inspection,the control system is designed.The hardware structure of control system is described and the circuit principle diagram is presented.The whole control system is composed of motion control unit,the high-voltage control unit and panel control unit.By using devices and technologies such as Microcontroller,digital isolator,CAN bus,redundancy design and high precision AD/DA converter,the system's stability and intelligent control is ensured.The software design in forms of flow chat is given in this paper.The control system is now successfully used in Automatic X-ray Inspection.Experiment results show that,the system is stable and reliable,able to meet the control requirement of the X-ray inspection.
