Study on Removal of Algae from Outflow of High Rate Algal Pond

Abstract:High Rate Algal Pond(HRAP) has the advantage of high efficiency,low costs,and easy operation.It is suitable for wastewater treatment in rural regions which lack capital but are rich in land resources.However,there are a lot of algae in the outflow of HRAP,which baffles its application.Therefore,experiments were made on the removal of algae from outflow of HRAP by alternanthera philoxeroides pond.The experiment results show that the average removal efficiencies of Chl-a,SS,COD,TN and TP are 90.6%,94.3%,62.9%,32.0%,25.9%(HRT=4 d),respectively.The decrement of Chl-a,SS,COD,TN and TP is 0.185 g/(m~2·d),36.713 g/(m~2·d),38.340 g/(m~2·d),4.403 g/(m~2·d) and 0.283 g/(m~2·d),respectively.The problem of high algal concentration in the outflow of HRAP has been solved by alternanthera philoxeroides pond,which makes the high rate algal pond more adaptive to be applied in rural regions.
