Abstract:This paper discribes test results of an industrial demonstration plant using ash agglomeration fluid bed for gasification of pulverized coal.Use of the fluidization technology in the presence of oxygen steam mixture as a promotor in the engineering that deals well with establishment of fluid bed,dedusting and slag discharge at elevated temperatures,application of high temperature resistant valves and abrasion resistant refractories,and recovery of waste heat.Compared with fixed bed gasification process,the cost per tone of ammonia can be reduced by 172 Yuan,resulting in better economic and environmental benefits.

Abstract:China's coal-fired power plants produce about 600 million tons fly ash annually, which has caused severe economic and environmental problems.This paper first describes briefly the production and utilization status of coal fly ash in China.Then it analyzes the main challenges to the fly ash utilization in China due to the conflict between the huge amount production of fly ash and the depressed consumption of fly ash, as well as the increasing driving forces in the environmental protection.Subsequently, the new developments of fly ash utilization in China, including valuable elements extraction, geopolymer production, fly ash-based ceramics synthesis and soil desertification control are introduced in detail.

Abstract:The clean coal utilization strategy which is an important part of energy development strategy of China was presented.The main forms and problems of coal utilization in China were analyzed,and an index system for efficient and clean utilization of coal,including clean degree,eco-friendly degree,and low-carbon degree was developed.Based on the analysis of the structure and quantity of coal consumption in China,the paper gives the index values of 2020,2030,and 2050,respectively.The development strategy of efficient and clean utilization of coal in China is finally proposed for 2011 to 2030 and 2031 to 2050.The results show that: a.By 2030,coal will still play a dominating role in the strategic layout of energy supply in China.With the adjustment of energy structure,the application and innovation of new technologies,coal will be used more cleanly,more environmental friendly,and with less CO2 emissions by 2050.b.The efficient and clean utilization of coal is the strategic direction for sustainable development of energy supply.Low-carbon utilization of high-carbon energy source can be obtained.c.In the next few decades,complete transform from currently extensive coal supply mode into scientific supply which meets the reasonable needs will provide direct support for the efficient utilization of coal.d.Low-carbon utilization of high-carbon energy is in accordance with green development strategy of China.

Abstract:The rapid economic development in China places a large demand for energy, and as a result, thermal power plants in China are producing an enormous amount of coal fly ash (CFA) which causes severe environmental pollution. This paper briefly describes the current production and utilization status of CFA in China and identifies the challenges confronting sustainable CFA utilization as the Chinese economy is being transformed. These issues include a regional imbalance in supply and demand, reducing demand in the real estate industry as well as stricter laws for environmental protection. Viable directions for future CFA utilization are proposed, for example, production of CFA-based ceramic tiles, recovery of elemental resources, agricultural melioration, treatment of wastewater and flue gas, and production of high-volume CFA concretes. This paper has some guiding significance for sustainable and cleaner utilization of CFA in China and even worldwide.

Abstract:Coal will be the major source for power generation and basic chemicals production in the foreseeable years in China. Both sectors produce significant amounts of solid waste pollutants (fly ash), air pollutants (NOx, SOx), greenhouse gas emission (CO2) and waste water. The current technologies for each individual treatment or control cause high operation cost, waste of resources and large plant footprint. The proposed new technology is an integrated waste management system which will minimize energy consumption and maximize resource utilization. The technology is based on fly ash utilization which includes (1) the development of clean alumina extraction from fly ash technology;(2)the development of solid amine CO2 sorbent from fly ash and integrated De-SOx, De-NOx and De-CO2 process;(3)the development of functional material for waste water treatment from fly ash.

Abstract:Coal fly ash, an industrial by-product, is derived from coal combustion in thermal power plants. It is one of the most complex anthropogenic materials, and its improper disposal has become an environmental concern and resulted in a waste of recoverable resources. There is a pressing and ongoing need to develop new recycling methods for coal fly ash. The present review first describes the generation, physicochemical properties and hazards of coal fly ash at the global level, and then focuses on its current and potential applications, including use in the soil amelioration, construction industry, ceramic industry, catalysis, depth separation, zeolite synthesis, etc. Finally, the advantages and disadvantages of these applications, the mode of fly ash utilization worldwide and directions for future research are considered.

Abstract:Coal is found in huge amounts throughout the world and is expected to play a crucial role as an abundant energy source. However, one critical issue in promoting coal utilization is controlling environmental pollution. Clean coal technologies are needed to utilize coal in an environmentally acceptable way and to improve coal utilization efficiency. This paper describes coal's role in China's energy system and the environmental issues related to coal use. Coal is responsible for 90% of the SO2 emissions, 70% of the dust emissions, 67% of the NOx emissions, and 70% of the CO2 emissions. But as the most abundant energy resource, it will continue to be the dominant energy supply for a long time. Therefore, the development and deployment of clean coal technologies are crucial to promote sustainable development in China. Clean coal technologies currently being developed in China are described including high efficiency combustion and advanced power generation technologies, coal transformation technologies, IGCC (integrated gasification combined cycle) and carbon capture and storage (CCS). Although China only recently began developing clean coal technologies, there have been many successes. Most recent orders of coal-fired power plants are units larger than 600MW and new orders for supercritical and ultra supercritical systems are increasing rapidly. Many national research programs, industrial research programs and international collaboration projects have been launched to develop on IGCC and CCS systems in China. Finally, suggestions are given on how to further promote clean coal technologies in China.
Innovation and practice for the prevention and control technologies of coal dust in Shandong coal mine

Abstract:With the improvement of mechanization level and the increase of mining intensity of coal mining in Shandong,the hazard of productive dust has become increasingly serious,with great threat to the mine work safety and worker health,and the prone trend of pneumoconiosis has not been effectively contained. In recent years,To effectively reduce the dust concentration in underground work environment and reduce dust hazard,with strictly implementing the relevant state management regulations on dust prevention and control,the dust prevention and control technologies have been actively explored in Shandong coal mine. The key breakthroughs have been taken from four stages "prevention,management,protection and management",and a set of feasible,reliable and effective dust comprehensive prevention and control measures were formed,especially in the aspects of short-wall water injection in coal seam,rotating spray,dust additives,efficient dust mask,strengthen management etc. The advanced dust control technologies in Shandong were analyzed and summarized in this paper,which is worth popularization and application.

Clean Degree Index for Coal Utilization

Abstract:This paper presents the concept of clean degree index for coal utilization,including index for one pollutant and comprehensive index.10 kinds of clean coal technologies were assessed,as well as the coal utilization in the year 2030 and 2050 in China based on clean degree.The results show that the clean degree of technology with CO2 capture and sequestration(CCS) is larger than that without CCS.Polygeneration with CCS and ultra-supercritical pulverized coal power plant(USCPC) with CCS have the largest clean degree amongst these technologies.The total clean degree index can be improved with clean coal technology being widely used.If 50% coal power plants were installed with CCS in 2050,clean degree index of CO2 would increase from 61% in 2030 to 71%,with increasing total energy consumption and slightly increasing coal consumption.

Abstract:For China,coal is dominant in energy mix not only at present,but also in the coming 40～50 years,but more and more portion of the coal will be used for power generation.The direct combustion of coal has been causing severe pollution and ecological degradation.It is quite difficult to solve the problem of CO2 reduction with direct combustion of coal.As a result,the development of polygeneration system based on coal gasification is the strategic direction of China's energy to meet the requirements of major challenges.Clean and efficient utilization of coal is the key to China's low-carbon economy.The polygeneration energy system is a comprehensive solution to the energy challenges that China is facing.Urgent actions should be taken to start the transition to this technology to avoid air pollutions,energy security problems and GHG mitigation in China.CO2 mitigation in China should begin from coal-chemical industry to accumulate experience,and gradually transfer to the "IGCC + polygeneration+CCUS".

Abstract:Coal will continue to dominate China s energy supply in the future. The mining of coal creates large amount of gangue which not only occupies a large area of land but also generate environmental problems. On the other hand, coal gangue is a low calorific fuel which should be utilized properly. A few small power plants are current running or under construction in China. However, due to its high ash content, coal gangue generates a large amount of ash when it is combusted in power plants. The ash from power stations not only contributes to emissions of fine particulates in the air but also results in the contamination of soil. The utilization of coal gangue ash is therefore important to reduce China s environmental pollution. In this paper, current status of the research and development of gangue ash utilization in China is reviewed. The gangue ash has found its application in a wide range of areas, such as road construction, chemicals, agriculture fertilizers, etc. Some ash samples were collected by the authors from a coal gangue fired power plant in Fuxin, northeast China. Characteristics of the ash were analyzed by using XRD, SEM, Laser sizer and other techniques. Because of its physical structure (e.g., large surface area and porosity) and its composition (i.e., containing mainly SiO2, Al2O3 and CaO) the gangue ash has a potential in the application of iron-based sorbents for high temperature removal of hydrogen sulfide from coal gas. A desulphurization sorbent was prepared by using the mixture of iron oxide and the gangue ash collected from the power plant. The structure and property of the surbent were examined using XRD, SEM and other techniques.

Abstract:This paper discusses the environmental, social, and economic benefits of coal gangue resource utilization, as well as the associated technical challenges and policy analysis. Coal gangue, a common industrial waste, plays a significant role in promoting sustainable development. The paper defines coal gangue and explains its origins, emphasizing the necessity of resource utilization. It then analyzes the application of physical, chemical, and biological methods in coal gangue treatment and explores integrated utilization approaches, such as transforming coal gangue into building materials and soil amendments. In discussing the comprehensive benefits of coal gangue resource utilization, the paper highlights contributions to environmental protection, including pollution reduction and energy conservation. Abstract:Coal combustion will continue to be a major component of energy production in the foreseeable future, owing to its abundance in China. A primary challenge will be to seek ways to utilize the coal resources in an environmentally acceptable manner. This paper presents the coal combustion scenario and its related air pollution in China. Some commonly used technologies for removing the pollutants from coal combustion had been introduced after comparison of its utilization efficiency, engineering investment-, and operation expense. In order to cost-effectively reduce the pollutant emission, it is necessary to enhance the coal utilization efficiency by implementing large-scale advanced technologies and increasing the coal-washing rate. There is dire need for indigenously developed techniques for the pollution control to reduce the engineering cost. The development of low-cost, low water-consuming flue gas desulfurization technologies, low-cost technologies for reducing NOx emission, and low-cost advanced technologies for inhalable particle emission control, must be predominantly paid attention.

Abstract:The paper first introduces the properties of circulating fluidized bed (CFB) ashes (fly ash and bed ash). Then it describes the new investigations about utilization progress of them. The properties of fly ash and bed ash are not identical, so the progresses of utilization are different, too. Usually, the low carbon and high CaO bed ash can be directly used as material for construction. But the high carbon fly ash must be treated with some process before being utilized, such as hydration for cement, pelletizing for re-burning.

Abstract:Recently, air pollution has taken Chinese a great concern. The emission control of electricity industry is the key to the air quality improvement since electricity industry accounts for over 50 % of China’s coal consumption. This work introduces the progress and prospects of ultra-low emission control technologies based power generation technologies. The ultra-low emission control technologies and integrated systems are developed and optimized by the support of a series of national projects to reach the emission level of natural gas power generation units in using coal-fired units. The application and promotion of these technologies are proven to be an important solution for the air quality improvement, especially in regions with high energy-consumption, since these technologies have shown great potential for deep-cut in pollutant emissions, which will benefit both the society and the environment. In the future, the research will focus on the deep-cut of various pollutants and high-efficiency CO2 capture to lay a solid foundation for the construction of the world’s cleanest coal-fired power plants.

Abstract:Energy is the lifeblood of the national economy. At present, China's energy development situation is severe, and its external dependence on crude oil and natural gas is relatively high. Considering the national conditions of coal, strengthening the clean and efficient utilization of coal is strategically significant; specifically, the clean and efficient coal transformation is an important approach. This study summarized the status quo of clean and efficient coal transformation, and analyzed the high-end, diversified, low-carbon, and intelligent development trend of the industry as well as the technology development trends that include coal transformation to clean fuels, coal transformation to bulk and special chemicals, and pollutant control in coal transformation. Moreover, the study analyzed the development challenges regarding water resources, carbon emissions, product competitiveness, and supporting policies, and proposed a development idea that is led by planning, demonstration, and innovation. The research suggests that the strategic position of clean and efficient coal transformation in the energy system should be clarified, the national coal-to-oil-and-gas strategic reserve mechanism should be established, financial credit and energy statistics policy support should be strengthened, and the scientific and technological innovation ability should be improved by building research and development platforms.
A novel method for cleaning coal-dust-laden air and its application

Abstract:During the green mining processes of coal energy, large amounts of coal-dust-laden air may be generated. This has caused serious health threats to mine workers. In this paper, a novel method for efficiently cleaning coal-dust-laden air was proposed. The method involved the use of air scrubbers composed of water inlet pipes, radial mixing impellers, water distribution plates, swirl vanes, and dehydrator. The radial mixing impellers were utilized to break up the water which flowed from the water inlet pipes to water distribution plates. As a result, water mist was formed, which then combined with the coal-dust-laden air, effectively sucking it using the negative pressure from the impeller rotation actions. The coal-dust-laden air and solid-liquid mixtures were moved along a certain trajectory by centrifugal force and gravity, and then discharged to the exterior. Experiments and field application processes were carried out in order to test the effectiveness of the proposed method. The experimental results showed that the dust removal efficiency of the method had reached 97.70%. In addition, the proposed method was applied to a coal preparation plant in China's Shanxi Province. The test results indicated that the average concentrations of total dust and respirable dust were found to have decreased from 71.11 to 2.89 mg/m3 and from 47.675 to 1.958 mg/m3, which met the requirements of environmental standards. Therefore, since the proposed method had not used conventional nozzles and filters, and had no requirements regarding the water quality of the coal mine, it had displayed strong adaptability and stable dust removal efficiency. The results obtained in this study showed that this new method of cleaning coal-dust-laden air was a promising measure by which to significantly improve the working environments of coal mines.Download : Download high-res image (201KB)Download : Download full-size imageA novel method to efficiently clean coal-dust-laden air method was proposed and its related equipment was developed.
