Vehicle Delay at Signalized Intersections with Through-movement Waiting Areas

Abstract:The use of forwarded waiting area can increase traffic capacity and reduce delay at signalized intersections. The paper analyzes the geometry setup and phase setup of the through-movement waiting areas. Degree of saturation-based delay model is then constructed to compare the traffic delay of the proposed setup to the case without through-movement waiting areas. The proposed approach is validated using a numerical example.
