Abstract:The environmental impacts of energy use over last decade and environmental damages cost by coal exploitation and use,which is 185.6 Yuan/t coal,were analyzed.The four key challenges of China's energy development were pointed out,and environmental protection targets in sustainable energy development to improve the environmental quality and reduce greenhouse gas emissions were proposed.According to the main air pollutants emissions control targets,the possible constraints on coal consumption were discussed.Meanwhile,the strategic measures and policy recommendations to achieve green and low-carbon energy development were presented.

Abstract:Tin is a component of many items used in daily activities, including solder in consumer electronics, tin can containing food and beverages, polyvinyl chloride stabilizers in construction products, catalysts in industrial processes, etc. China is the largest producer and consumer of refined tin, and more than 60% of this refined tin is applied in the electronics sector as solder. China is the leader in global economic growth; simultaneously, China is also a major producer and consumer of electrical and electronic equipment (EEE). Thus, future tin supply and demand in China are forecasted, based on the gross domestic product per capita and the average consumption of refined tin in past five years. Current tin reserves and identified resources in China can meet the future two decades of mine production, but import of tin will also be critical for China's future tin consumption. However, there will be a lot of uncertainty for import of tin from other countries. At the same time, virgin mining of geological ores is a process of high energy consumption and destruction of the natural environment. Hence recycling tin from Sn-bearing secondary resources like tailings and waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) can not only address the shortage of tin mineral resources, but also save energy and protect the ecological environment.

Abstract:This study focuses on the issue of supply security in Chinese tin resources, conducting a comprehensive analysis encompassing supply security, demand conditions, market risk, and geopolitical stability. The study employs the AHP-Entropy Weight method to calculate the comprehensive weights of various indicators, revealing the sustainable supply capability of the resources and the challenges they confront. The research unveils that the domestic supply potential and the international commercial extraction environment are pivotal influences on the sustainable supply capability of tin resources. Firstly, since 2010, China has started to import net tin ores and concentrates, leading to a substantial increase in external dependency. However, China's tin resource reserves have gradually decreased, posing challenges to the stability of the tin resource supply. Secondly, the stability of supply countries and the security of import channels critically affect the stability of the tin resource supply chain. A comprehensive analysis of the outcomes indicates a consistent decline in China's sustainable tin resource supply capability since 2010, primarily due to the deterioration of resource supply conditions, growth in demand, and the escalation of geopolitical risks. Thus, the evolving foreign extraction environment, domestic resource supply potential, and the alteration in the global tin resource extraction landscape require significant attention.

Cassiterite beneficiation in China: A mini-review

Abstract:Tin is indispensable for the development of advanced technology and cassiterite is the only mineral of commercial importance, from which tin can be extracted economically. In the past two decades, tin reserves in China have experienced a rapid decline because of active mining activities; simultaneously, cassiterite beneficiation has been facing with the many dilemmas like lower tin-grade, finer grain size, and more complicated mineralogy. Therefore, a review has been made here to summarize the development and progress on the recovery of tin from natural resources and secondary resources in China by demonstrating a series of breakthroughs made in process flowsheet, gravity separation equipment, innovative flotation theories, fine particles flotation, new cassiterite collectors, and tin recycling technologies in recent years, which will doubtlessly contribute to increasing tin resource utilization rate and promoting sustainable development of tin industry whether in China or the world. As for the future, the research and development of fine or ultra-fine cassiterite gravity separation equipment, green and low lost cassiterite flotation reagent, as well as the reusing and recycling of tin from tin-containing secondary resources deserve more attention, which will encourage researchers to move forward.

Abstract:It is the periodical research on "the special subject of chemical industry and salt mineral resources" of the Consulting Project "powerful nation strategy of mineral resources" from the Chinese Academy of Engineering,referring to the powerful nation strategy of 11 mineral,including potassium,phosphorus,sulfur,lithium,rubidium,cesium,graphite,boron,magnesium,fluorite and barite.Compared with the classic powerful state of mineral resources in the world,it exists a big gap in the acquisition ability of resource at home and abroad,the extension of industrial chain,the industrial concentration degree,the participation degree of the international pricing on the mineral production in China.Considering the problem of industry development at present stage in China and the gap with the mineral resource powerful state in the world,it puts the way of building the mineral resource powerful state,and gives the preliminary comment and suggestion,referring to the management mechanism system,the financial policy,the talent team,the international cooperation.In the next 10 years,it is different from the decreasing trend of Bulk mineral,the demand of chemical industry and salt mineral resource is increasing obviously and keeping operating in the high level.In addition to the implement of "Belt and Road Initiative" strategy,the development of chemical industry and salt mineral resources is faced with the new opportunities and challenges.

Abstract:Tin is closely associated with daily life and scientific and technological development, being widely applied in electronic products (e.g., computers, mobile phones) and high-end manufacturing, but the sustainability of tin resources has aroused global concern. To understand the global tin trade and its implications, a material flow analysis framework is established in this study, to analyze the tin flow among countries during 1999-2018. Tin production is concentrated in nine countries, which account for more than 90% of global tin production; while tin consumption is concentrated in ten countries, which account for some 80% of total tin consumption. In addition, the level of economic development measured in GDP/capita, is found to be highly correlated with the role of a country in the global tin trade. The countries with low per capita GDP are usually principal tin producers and suppliers; while eight of the world's top ten refined tin consumers (accounting for about 70% of global consumption) are those with high per capita GDP. In addition, a significant correlation between refined tin consumption and GDP per capita is observed in developing countries, but this correlation weakens in developed countries. This study not only fills the data gap in global tin flow but also provides a reference and basis for tin resource decision making and for follow-up research on tin material flow.

Abstract:This paper aims to present a full picture of the current status and future trends of China's iron ore development using system analysis on the iron supply chain. First, we map China's iron flow to present the physical patterns of iron ore supply and demand in China. Next, the historical and future trends of iron ore development in China are discussed from four aspects including demand, resource availability, technology improvement, and strategy and policy. Based on these aspects, we conclude how to sustainably obtain overseas iron ore resources at a reasonable price as the key issue, and this issue is further analyzed from perspectives of market structure, the pricing mechanism, and Chinese steel companies’ behavior. In conclusion, we determined China must enhance cooperation with the main global suppliers, expand overseas investments effectively, and enhance domestic coordination to secure the import of resources and reduce price fluctuations.

Abstract:Over the past century of construction and development, China has become the largest copper consumer globally. However, considering the current situation of Chinese copper resources and industrial development patterns, the green development of the copper industry faces numerous challenges. In this study, based on analyses of current and secondary copper resources, the consumption of copper resources, the status of the copper trade, and industrial policy development, major problems have been identified. These include a lack of innovation capacity and advanced copper products, the disordered expansion of copper processing enterprises, conflicts between resources and the environment, and excessive dependence on external. Under the guidance of green development in the 13th Five Year Plan, in order to accelerate green development of the Chinese copper industry, this study has proposed countermeasures and suggestions, such as digging mining resource potential, adjusting industrial structures, promoting technological innovation, and strengthening policy regulation.

Abstract:The territory of the present-day People’s Republic of China is rich in mineral and energy resources which stimulate the growth of the extractive industry in the country. China is currently the world leader in the production of 31 commodities (mineral products): molybdenum, tungsten, iron, aluminum, lead, zinc, gold, coal, gypsum, bentonite, and many others. This stimulates the development of the appropriate infrastructure and training of specialists in the mining industry, the development of international links for investment and the exchange of best production practices. The purpose of this work was to study the history of exploration and extraction of natural resources, establish a domestic strategy for the development of the mining and metallurgical sector, and review leading Chinese mining and metallurgical companies. The paper reviewed key domestic processes in China which would affect the domestic and global mining and metallurgical industry. An assessment of natural resource deposits throughout the whole territory of the country was carried out with their brief description, highlighting the prime prospects, and presenting commodity reserves. The paper presents the main challenges for the mining and metallurgical industry to be met in the 14 th Five-Year Plan. The development of the industry up to 2025 implies the expansion of extractive capacities with an overall reduction in dependence on imports, enhancing exploration programs, and the reduction of harmful emissions from operating enterprises, etc. Special attention is paid to publicly traded mining and metallurgical companies in China. The leaders in each sector are presented, and their brief economic indicators are given.
Spatiotemporal Distribution, Geological Characteristics and Metallogenic Mechanism of Tungsten and Tin Deposits in China: an Overview

Abstract:Tungsten and tin are important strategic and critical mineral resources, as well as one of China’s most abundant mineral resources. Their distribution is mainly concentrated in the South China block, followed by the Kunlun-Qilian-Qinling-Dabie orogenic belt, the Tianshan-Xingmeng orogenic belt, and the Tibet-Sanjiang orogenic belt. The tungsten and tin resources in South China are mainly concentrated in the Nanling tungsten-tin metallogenic belt, the northern Jiangxi-southern Anhui tungsten metallogenic belt, the Youjiang-Guibei tin metallogenic belt, and the southeast coastal tungsten-tin metallogenic belt. The formation of tungsten and tin deposits in China spans a large period of time, from Proterozoic to Cenozoic, but the Mesozoic Yanshanian mineralization is the most important. There are five main types of primary tungsten-tin deposits in China, namely, porphyry, greisen, skarn, quartz vein, and cassiterite-sulfide. In addition, there are also other types such as altered granite, hydrothermal breccia, and low-temperature hydrothermal vein. Many tungsten-tin deposits are often not of a single genetic type, and multiple mineralization types commonly co-exist in a deposit. Most of the granitoids associated with tungsten mineralization are thought to be S-type granite derived from partial melting of continental crustal materials, while the granitoids associated with tin deposits include I-type and A-type in addition to the S-type granite. Crust-mantle interaction plays an important role in generation of the Sn-bearing granites. Nd-Hf isotope studies show that beside the Sn-bearing granites, some W-bearing granites also have mantle-derived contributions. Whether it is W-bearing or Sn-bearing granite, a highly evolved feature is often more favorable for mineralization. The composite granitoids in South China are closely related to multiple tungsten-tin mineralization. Many tungsten and tin deposits in China are often co-produced with mineralization of other rare metals. According to the combination of ore elements, they mainly include the following three types: W-(Sn)-Be (including Sn-Be), W-(Sn)-Nb-a (including Sn-Nb-Ta), and Sn-Li-Rb-Nb-Ta. All of them are closely related to highly evolved peraluminous granites. The source of ore-forming fluids in most tungsten-tin deposits is closely related to magmatic hydrothermal activity, and some deposits also have characteristics of multi-source fluids. The temperature and salinity of ore-forming fluids vary widely, and the composition of the fluid system is also complex in many cases. Oxygen fugacity plays an important role in the transportation and precipitation of tin, but such an effect on tungsten is still in debate. The formation of many tungsten-tin deposits is generally controlled by a number of factors, such as temperature dropping, fluid mixing, fluid immiscibility, fluid boiling, and water-rock interaction.

Abstract:China is rich in total mineral resources, but per capita possession of less, more poor ore, mineral resources supply is prominent, and there are problems such as resource waste and environmental pollution; Therefore, in order to achieve sustainable development of mineral resources, it is necessary to strengthen exploration, realize stable allocation of resources, increase strategic reserves, and improve the level of comprehensive utilization of mineral resources, so as to achieve sustainable and healthy development of mineral resources and bring benefits to future generations. Abstract:The Eleventh Five-Year Plan of the Central Government specially cited the importance of energy saving and environmental conservation technologies in supporting the industry structure upgrade and building up an efficient circular economy.Industrial wastes are the inevitable byproduct from production,the quantity of wastes will be escalated with the further expansion of the manufacturing scale.The establishment of a wastes management System and Corperate Cultrue is required for the recovery of industrial wastes to valuable manufacturing resources through the use of appropirate technolgies.This article is based on the field studies conducted on Jiangsu Yang Li Group and the research study on the global trench in addressing the solid wastes management and recovery strategy issue for the metal cutting industry from the aspects of technology and economy.It is further illustrated with the case of Yang Li in recovering the real value of solid wastes through internal recycling.

Abstract:This paper makes a statistical analysis on the green development indicators of mining industry in recent ten years, such as production concentration, labor productivity, resource exploitation efficiency, beneficiation level and comprehensive utilization efficiency of mine waste. The results show that the overall level of green development of my country's mining industry has reached a historical high, which has made contributions to the overall improvement of resource utilization efficiency and the green and low-carbon transformation of mining industry. Criticality assessment of metal resources in China

Abstract:With the development of modern industries, the sustainability of critical resources has attracted worldwide attention considering the entire supply chain. With a large industrial sector size in China, a safe supply of metal resources is crucial to ensure the effective operation of the whole industry. Although specific criticality analyses have been applied to identify critical resources in some regions, including Europe and the USA, they are not ready to be directly applied in the case of China because the structure of China's industry is remarkably different from other areas. In this research, a three-dimensional methodology considering supply safety, domestic economy, and environmental risk is demonstrated, where Chinese industrial conditions are specifically considered. In total, 64 materials were introduced to perform the criticality assessment, and 18 metals were classified with a high criticality degree in the three-dimensional criticality space. With the obtained findings decision-makers can formulate strategic deployment to promote resource management.

Abstract:Today, conventional industries are suffering more and more rigorous environmental limits, market competition and impact of newly emerging industries. Transform and upgrade conventional industries is an important problem of sustainable development in China. How to realize the transformation of green chemical industry and promote green development of the whole society is one of the key links. Based on the analysis of key chemical industry development domestically and abroad, successful experiences of advanced countries are summarized. The development of green chemical industry of China and its peak value and turning point are analyzed. Finally, green development strategies and policy suggestions are proposed. Some key technologies are identified and important innovation projects are suggested.
