Abstract:Based on the sample survey data of 372 herders in Inner Mongolia, we assessed the livelihood capital of the herdsmen by using the entropy method, and the impact of livelihood capital on herdsmen's willingness to reduce livestock was examined. The results show that: Firstly, livelihoods of herdsmen in the study area mainly depend on human capital and financial capital, followed by social capital and material capital, and finally natural capital. Secondly, livelihood capital has a significant influence on the herdsmen's willingness to reduce livestock. Among them, social capital plays a prominent role in promoting herdsmen's willingness to reduce livestock, followed by material capital, human capital, and financial capital. Natural capital has a weaker inhibitory effect on herdsmen's willingness to reduce livestock. Specifically, the social networks and participation in collective activities in social capital, the number of livestock in material capital, the amount of labor in human capital, and household cash income in financial capital all significantly contribute to the herdsmen's willingness to reduce livestock.
