Abstract:In this paper, we prove the local well-posedness of strong solutions to a compressible non-isothermal model for nematic liquid crystals in a bounded domain Ω⊂R3 provided that the initial data satisfy a natural compatibility condition. The assumption on the positivity of initial density is not needed here, and it may vanish in an open subset of Ω.

Abstract:We study compressible nematic liquid crystal flows with the bulk viscosity being a power function of the density ( ) on the whole two-dimensional (2D) plane. Under a geometric angle condition for the initial direction field, we show the global existence and uniqueness of strong solutions provided that . It should be noticed that there is no other restrictions on the size of initial data and the initial density allows vacuum states.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider the 3-D motion of viscous gas with the vacuum free boundary. We use the conormal derivative to establish local well-posedness of this system. Abstract:In this paper, the local well-posedness of strong solutions to the Cauchy problem of the isentropic compressible Navier-Stokes equations is proved with the initial date being allowed to have vacuum. The main contribution of this paper is that the well-posedness is established without assuming any compatibility condition on the initial data, which was widely used before in many literatures concerning the well-posedness of compressible Navier-Stokes equations in the presence of vacuum.

Abstract:We are concerned with the well-posedness of the density-dependent incompressible viscoelastic fluid system. By Schauder-Tychonoff fixed point argument, when $\|{1}/{\rho_0}-1\|_{\dot{B}_{p,1}^{{N}/{p}}}$ is small, local well-posedness is showed to hold in Besov space. Furthermore, provided the initial data $(1/\rho_0 -1,\upsilon_0,U_0-I)$ is small under certain norm, we also get the existence of the global solution.

Abstract:In this paper, we prove the local well-posedness of the free boundary problem of full compressible Navier-Stokes equations with physical vacuum in three dimensions. We establish a priori estimates in Conormal Sobolev spaces in Lagrangian coordinates, where only the first-order time-derivative of the velocity is involved in the compatibility condition. The existence and uniqueness results of local-in-time solutions are based on a fixed point argument. Different from the isentropic case [11], the presence of nonlinear term div(uS) in energy equation causes more difficulties. Moreover, we deal with this free boundary problem starting from the general cases of 1<γ≤2 (the most physically relevant regime), where γ is the adiabatic exponent.
Global existence of strong solutions with large oscillations and vacuum to the compressible nematic liquid crystal flows in 3D bounded domains

Abstract:We investigate compressible nematic liquid crystal flows in three-dimensional (3D) bounded domains with slip boundary condition for velocity and Neumann boundary condition for orientation field. By applying piecewise-estimate method and delicate analysis based on the effective viscous flux and vorticity, we derive the global existence and uniqueness of strong solutions provided that the initial total energy is suitably small. Our result is an extension of the works of Huang-Wang-Wen (J. Differential Equations 252: 2222-2265, 2012) and Li-Xu-Zhang (J. Math. Fluid Mech. 20: 2105-2145, 2018), where the local strong solutions in three dimensions and the global strong solutions for 3D Cauchy problem were established, respectively. Moreover, it also shows that blow up mechanism for local strong solutions obtained by Huang-Wang-Wen (Arch. Ration. Mech. Anal. 204: 285-311, 2012) cannot occur if the initial total energy is sufficiently small.

Abstract:This paper considers the inhomogeneous biaxial nematic liquid crystal flow in a smooth bounded domain Ω⊂R2 , where the velocity u and the orthogonal unit vector fields (m,n) admit the Dirichlet and Neumann boundary condition, respectively. By applying piecewise estimate and continuity method, we get the global existence of strong solutions, provided that the basic energy is suitably small. Our result may be regarded as an extension and improvement of Gong-Lin (2022) and Li-Liu-Zhong (2017) to the Neumann boundary condition, where the initial vacuum is allowed. Some new techniques are developed in order to deal with integral estimates caused by the boundary condition, and more complicated model.

Abstract:We discuss in this short note the local-in-time strong well-posedness of the compressible Navier–Stokes system for non-Newtonian fluids on the three dimensional torus. We show that the result established recently by Kalousek, Mácha, and Nečasova in https://doi.org/10.1007/s00208-021-02301-8 can be extended to the case where vanishing density is allowed initially. Our proof builds on the framework developed by Cho, Choe, and Kim in https://doi.org/10.1016/j.matpur.2003.11.004 for compressible Navier–Stokes equations in the case of Newtonian fluids. To adapt their method, special attention is given to the elliptic regularity of a challenging nonlinear elliptic system. We show particular results in this direction, however, the main result of this paper is proven in the general case when elliptic -regularity is imposed as an assumption. Also, we give a finite time blow-up criterion.

Existence and uniqueness of the global strong solution are established in critical Besov spaces provided that the initial datum is close to an equilibrium state $(1,{\bf 0}, \hat{{\bf d}})$ with a constant vector $\hat{{\bf d}}\in S^2$. The global existence result is proved via the local well-posedness and uniform estimates for proper linearized systems with convective terms.

Abstract:This work is devoted to establishing the local-in-time well-posedness of strong solutions to the three-dimensional compressible primitive equations of atmospheric dynamics. It is shown that strong solutions exist, unique, and depend continuously on the initial data, for a short time in two cases: with gravity but without vacuum, and with vacuum but without gravity. We also introduce the free boundary problem for the compressible primitive equations.

Abstract:We consider 3D compressible isentropic Euler equations describing the motion of a liquid in an unbounded initial domain with a moving boundary and a fixed flat bottom at finite depth. The liquid is under the influence of gravity and surface tension and it is not assumed to be irrotational. We prove local well-posedness by combining a carefully designed approximate system and a hyperbolic approach which allows us to avoid using Nash-Moser iteration. The energy estimates yield no regularity loss and are uniform in Mach number, and they are uniform in surface tension coefficient under the Rayleigh-Taylor sign condition. We thus simultaneously obtain incompressible and zero surface tension limits. Moreover, we can drop the uniform boundedness (with respect to Mach number) on high-order time derivatives by applying the paradifferential calculus to the analysis of the free-surface evolution.
