Abstract:Hear Ye! Hear Ye! Hear Ye! Did you know that SIGCSE has launched a new conference on a global scale? It's the ACM Global Computing Education Conference, also known as ACM CompEd. This new event is destined to become a leading global conference on computing education. At the intersection of computing and the learning sciences, the CompEd seeks to promote global computing education development. The plan is to hold CompEd every two years in parts of the world not regularly served by SIGCSE conferences.

Abstract:The 14th Global Chinese Conference on Computers in Education (GCCCE2010)was held in Nanyang TechnologyUniversity, Singapore, during June 1-4, 2010. The conference theme was Toward a New Era of Knowledge Creation, which signifiesthe GCCCE community’s renewed interest in further exploring the ICT as a "learning partner" to facilitate or enhance our young andadults learners’ self-directed learning, collaborative learning, and ultimately, knowledge building. There are nine sub-conferences:Mobile & Ubiquitous Learning; Joyful Learning & Society; Chinese e-Learning; CSCL & AI in Education; Construction of InnovativeLearning Environment & Design of Educational Software; Digital Assessment & Evaluation; Digital Learning and Human ResourceDevelopment; K-12 Teachers’ Forum; and doctoral forum. About 600 scholars from mainland of China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Japan,the United States, Malaysia, and Singapore participated in the GCCCE2010.

Abstract:SIGCSE members are part of a worldwide community of computing educators and professionals. This discussion provides participants an opportunity to share global differences in vocabulary and interpretation of idioms and assumptions that pervade teachers and researchers. Lack of cultural knowledge can hinder understanding meaning of terms; communication among colleagues can be confusing. Lack of understanding also inhibits the leveraging of scholarly work and cooperation among colleagues from different cultures. E.g., information technology in Australia means the field of computing, and the baccalaureate degree "Computer Science and Technology" in China is equivalent to a degree in computer engineering. Terminology that Americans use such as AP for Advance Placement or K-12 for pre-undergraduate education is meaningless in many parts of the world. This discussion is an outgrowth of an ad hoc subcommittee formed by the ACM Education Council on global issues. Serving as a reference for the discussion is the seminal article by Clear, A. et al. "What's in a Name?: International Interpretations of Computing Education Terminology," in The Proceedings of the 2015 ITiCSE on Working Group Reports. Attending this BOF should heighten awareness of what changes might lead to a truly global computing education community. In addition to Owens, Alison Clear from New Zealand, Ming Zhang from China, and John Impagliazzo from the USA have agreed to help lead the discussion.

Abstract:Welcome to the proceedings of the 43rd ACM Technical Symposium on Computer Science Education, or SIGCSE 2012, where you will find the archival record of over one hundred papers as well as multiple other session formats that document the latest in computer science education: research, tool building, teaching, curriculum and philosophy. Reflecting our location in North Carolina's renowned Research Triangle, this year's conference features the three themes of "Teaching, Learning, and Collaborating" throughout the sessions. Teaching, learning, and collaborating occur inside and outside of the classroom, and among various combinations of students, academics, industry professionals, and others. We are pleased to announce the winners of the two annual SIGCSE awards. Professor Harold (Hal) Abelson of Massachusetts Institute of Technology will receive the SIGCSE award for Outstanding Contribution to Computer Science Education, and will provide Friday's keynote address. Jane Prey of Microsoft Research will accept the SIGCSE Award for Lifetime Service to the Computer Science Education Community and speak at our First Timer's Lunch. In addition, we've invited speakers to deliver two more keynote presentations. Frederick P. Brooks, Jr., from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, will deliver Thursday's keynote address titled "The Teacher's Job is to Design Learning Experiences; not Primarily to Impart Information." Fernanda Viegas and Martin Wattenberg from Google's "Big Picture" visualization group will jointly address Saturday's luncheon with "Through the Looking Glass: Talking about the World with Visualization." Abstract:Innovation is the driving force of the education reform and development. Research and application of information technology on education, should not only focus on information technology support education innovation, but also pay more attention to promoting the sustainable development of educational innovation. The 15th Global Chinese Conference on Computers in Education (GCCCE2011) was held in Zhejiang University in May 29(superscript th) to 31(superscript th) 2011. Taking ”ICT-based Educational Innovation” as the theme, this conference revealed the importance of information technology in education. Now the focus of information technology application in the educational innovation is transformed from the educational techniques and methods to the educational ideas and modes. 1300 papers were received in the conference, and 500 delegates from hundreds of universities, scientific research institution and K12 schools from the United States, Singapore, Italy, mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan discussed many issues such as mobile learning and ubiquitous learning, educational games and informal learning, ICT application in Chinese language teaching, computer supported collaborative learning and artificial intelligence in education, construction of the digital learning environment and educational software design, digital measurement and evaluation, digital learning and corporate training, ICT application in primary and secondary education and other themes was made further discussion and exchange.

Abstract:The first ACM Summit on Computing Education in China was held on 24th and 25th October 2008. The ACM China education summit represented an important initiative, one of the steps that ACM has taken to increase its relevance to computing in China. The Summit took place in the Royal King Hotel in Beijing immediately prior to the annual meeting of Chinese Deans and Heads of computing. ACM's goal in China is to help advance computing as a science and profession. The goals of this first education summit included the promotion of the discipline of computing, learning about good practices in computing education from within China, and where possible assisting in the enhancement of the quality of computing education in China. Twenty papers were submitted following a call for papers circulated throughout top-tier Chinese universities. The submissions told a very interesting story rebarding priorities and concerns within China. The reviewing process resulted in about 60% of the papers being accepted. There were also 4 high-quality keynote speakers: Xiaoming Li from Peking University; Frans Kashoeek from MIT; Jane Prey from Microsoft Research in the US; and Larry Snyder from the University of Washington, Seattle. John White, Chief Executive Officer of ACM, gave a presentation on "ACM and China."

Abstract:This birds-of-a-feather session discusses the global project Computing Curricula 2020 (CC2020), a joint project launched by professional computing societies worldwide. CC2020 is a priority of the ACM Education Council; its sponsors include ACM, IEEE Computer Society, and eight professional organizations from around the world. The project team consists of a task force of 38 members representing 16 countries and six continents. A steering committee of 13 members functions as an executive board to manage the project. CC2020 examines the current state of curricular guidelines for academic programs granting bachelor's degrees in computing and it provides a vision for the future of computing. Audience discussion encompasses new ways computing programs can prepare graduates both academically and professionally. Since computing competencies is an underlying theme of the project, this birds-of-a-feather session discusses competencies, their definition, and their inclusion into future curricular reports. Discussion surrounds competencies in computing, their effect, and the possible ways to visualize their meaning. This birds-of-a-feather session also allows the audience to provide comment on the elements of the project, to engage them to serve as potential project reviewers, and to provide a forum for lively interaction on a global and encompassing computing project.

Abstract:These proceedings contain the papers presented at the 2009 World Summit on Genetic and Evolutionary Computation (2009 GEC Summit), held in Shanghai, China, June 12-14, 2009. 2009 GEC Summit is sponsored and organized by ACM SIGEVO, the Special Interest Group for Genetic and Evolutionary Computation, sponsor of the annual GECCO conferences. The 2009 GEC Summit will feature the latest research and demonstrated successes in this dynamic area, including new approaches and breakthrough applications to problems in biology, medicine, engineering design, agriculture, logistics, traffic, security, scheduling, military affairs, and other fields. It maintains an impressive record of both submission totals and acceptance rate. This year there were 372 papers submitted, with 153 accepted as full papers, giving an acceptance rate of 41%. This acceptance rate represents a healthy selection pressure in order to preserve the quality of the conference, and even though the proceedings are not bound by physical limits on the number of accepted papers, the organizers have decided to keep the acceptance rate at the lower end. The 2009 GEC Summit has adopted electronic proceedings, and we are confident that our attendees will be pleased with this format, as it greatly facilitates the keeping of all conference materials and automated searching for topics of interest. The proceedings will appear in the ACM Digital Library, making them available to the world. The 2009 GEC Summit used a strict paper review system. To reduce any bias that reviewers might have, all reviews were conducted double blind. No author's names were included in the reviewed papers. Each paper had at least 4 reviewers while each reviewer had at least 5 papers to review. About 403 researchers participated in the review process. Their work is much appreciated and is absolutely vital for the quality of the conference. In addition to the presentation of the papers contained in these proceedings, the 2009 GEC Summit also includes free tutorials. Registered participants may attend any of the 100-minute tutorials, presented by some of the world's leading experts in evolutionary computation. Tutorials are distributed throughout the three days of the conference, allowing each participant to decide, at most time slots, to attend either a tutorial or one of several sessions in which accepted papers are presented. Tutorials are grouped into introductory level, advanced, and specialized tutorials. In general, introductory tutorials in a given area will be scheduled ahead of the advanced tutorials, allowing the interested participant to attend them both in order.

Abstract:From 1990s',education has closer relationship with computer,and more and more people engage the research and practice of technology in education.As a result,many academic conferences and communities are formed,in which GCCCE is one of the most influential one and it provide a broad platform for researchers and prac- ticers to communicate.June,2-5,2006,the journalist attended the 10th GCCCE,and interviewed prof.Chen Dehuai,the chairman of the conference.As the leader and attendee,Prof.Chen reviewed the development of GC- CCE,including the rapid process and problems,and forecast the future. Prof.Chen is the Director of Science and Technology for Learning and the Chair and Professor of the Graduate Institute of Network Learning Technology at the National Central University of Taiwan.Over the years,Chan has worked on artificial intelligence in education,computer supported collaborative learning,computer mediated inter- active classrooms,networked learning communities,ubiquitous and mobile learning,and more recently digital game and toy based learning. Chan has co-founded conference series ICCEs and GCCCEs,international academic societies AACE-APC, GCSCE,and APSCE.In 2003,Chan initiated a network of world-class researchers,G1:1,for promoting interna- tional collaboration in one-to-one technology enhanced learning.Chan has served on editorial boards,as associ- ate editors,or as advisory editors,of about ten international journals as well as on project review panels in the US and the EU.

Abstract:Much has changed since the inaugural ICGSE conference in 2006. Tools have improved, awareness of cultural differences is widespread, and developments such as the foregrounding of open source have all enhanced our ability to work across geographic divides. But the pervasive and profound impact of software in the world -- especially for societal scale systems such as social media -- forces new and deeply challenging responsibilities on both developers and academics. We must find better ways of incorporating ethics into our development practices and pay far more attention to harmful unintended consequences as deployed systems interact with and often disrupt crucial social systems.

Abstract:Joint ACM/IEEE Computer Society undergraduate computer engineering curriculum guidelines are slated for release in 2016. These update the 2004 guidelines commonly known as CE2004. The presenters are part of the task group leading the revisions and will give an overview of the latest draft. Participants will engage in discussions on potential improvements to the guidelines to ensure that they are useful to programs as they work to ensure their curricula reflect the state-of-the-art in computer engineering education and practice and are relevant for the coming decade.

Abstract:Despite rapid evolution, embedded computing systems increasingly feature resource constraints and workload uncertainties. To achieve much better system performance in unpredictable environments than traditional design approaches, a novel methodology, control-scheduling codesign, is emerging in the context of integrating feedback control and real-time computing. The aim of this work is to provide a better understanding of this emerging methodology and to spark new interests and developments in both the control and computer science communities. The state of the art of control-scheduling codesign is captured. Relevant research efforts in the literature are discussed under two categories, i.e., control of computing systems and codesign for control systems. Critical open research issues on integrating control and computing are also outlined.

Abstract:Welcome to ChineseCSCW2017, the 2017 12th Chinese Conference on Computer Supported Cooperative Work and Social Computing! This year's ChineseCSCW is sponsored by China Computer Federation (CCF), and organized by Technical Committee on Cooperative Computing (TCCC) of CCF and Southwest University. It's the first time that ChineseCSCW2017 has been an ACM SIGCHI in cooperation conference, whose proceedings are published by ACM ICPS and included in ACM Digital Library. We think this is a fantastic opportunity and start for ChineseCSCW to attract worldwide attentions and connect global Chinese CSCW scholars by cooperation with ACM, the world's largest top educational and scientific society. ChineseCSCW (previously called CCSCW) is a highly influential conference on CSCW and cooperative computing in China with a long history which has been biennially held since 1998 and annually held since 2014. Building academic bridges and platform for both Chinese and overseas CSCW researchers, practitioners and educators, ChineseCSCW investigates innovative models, theories, techniques, algorithms and methods, specially systems and domain-specific applications, for CSCW and social computing from both social and technical aspects. ChineseCSCW consistently follows a rigorous double-blind review process. We had 84 submitted papers and 21 were accepted as full papers (i.e. an acceptance rate of 25%) for presentation at the conference. The program also includes 18 posters and 12 demos. Prof. Ning Zhong of Maebashi Institute of Technology, Japan will open the conference, speaking on Big Data Based Wisdom Service: A Brain Informatics Based Systematic Approach.
