Abstract:Traditional wall-mounted air-conditioner (WAC) systems for heating typically face the problem of uneven temperature distribution. This study proposes a novel radiant-convective terminal for a WAC combined with a radiant panel. The radiant panel with low thermal resistance is heated by airflow to form a heat exchange surface that transfers heat to the indoor space and directs the airflow to create a heat-surrounded environment. The effect of air supply velocity, slot width, and outdoor temperature on the heating performance were investigated through numerical simulation and experimental validation. The temperature uniformity of the lower surface of the radiant panel, proportion of the radiant heating capacity ( R1 ) and the radiant panel heating capacity ( R2 ) were considered to evaluate the heating performance. The results show that the utilization of the improved terminal leads to an increase in the average air temperature in the Air 2 area from 19.98 °C to 21.49 °C, while ΔT0.1-1.7 decreases from 2.27 °C to 1.36 °C. Increasing the air supply velocity or the outdoor air temperature both led to an increase in the average air temperature in the Air 2 area and the temperature uniformity of the radiant panel, while R2 decreased. Enhancing the slot width had a more significant effect on R1 and R2 than on room air temperature. The optimal air supply velocity was derived as 0.7 m/s, and the optimal slot width was 200 mm. This study provides a new solution for improving the thermal performance of radiant-convective heating terminals.
