Abstract:In a recent paper by Spătaru [Precise asymptotics for a series of T.L. Lai, Proc. Amer. Math. Soc. 132 (11) (2004) 3387–3395] a precise asymptotics in the law of the logarithm for sequence of i.i.d. random variables has been established. In this paper we show that there is an analogous result for strictly stationary φ-mixing sequence. To prove this result, we have to use a different method. One of our main tools is the Gaussian approximation technique.

Abstract:Consider the positive d-dimensional lattice ℤ + d (d≥2) with partial ordering ≤, let {X K ; K ε ℤ + d } be i.i.d. random variables taking values in a real separable Hilbert space (H, ‖·‖) with mean zero and covariance operator Σ, and set partial sums S N =ΣK≤NX K , K, N ε ℤ + d . Under some moment conditions, we obtain the precise asymptoties of a kind of weighted infinite series for partial sums S N as ɛ ↘0 by using the truncation and approximation methods. The results are related to the convergence rates of the law of the logarithm in Hilbert space, and they also extend the results of (Gut and Spǎtaru, 2003).

By using the strong approximation method, we obtain that for any −1 < b ≤ 1, lim⁡ε↘0ε2b+2∑n=1∞(log⁡n)bnP(Mn≥εσnlog⁡n)=2E|N|(2b+2)b+1∑k=0∞(−1)k(2k+1)2b+2 if and only if Ex = 0 and Ex2 < ∞, which strengthen and extend the result of Gut and Spǎtaru [1], where N is the standard normal random variable. Furthermore, L2 convergence and a.s. convergence are also discussed.

We study the precise rates of a kind of weighted infinite series of P{Mn≥εσnlogn} and P{|Sn|≥εσnlogn} as ε↘0, and P{Mn≤εσπ2n8logn} as ε↗∞. The results are related to the convergence rates of the law of the logarithm and the Chung type law of the logarithm.
