Abstract:In recent years, carbon-based all-inorganic perovskite solar cells without hole transport layers have attracted much attention due to their good stability. However, because of the lack of hole transport layers, there are problems such as poor interface charge extraction and poor energy band alignment. Here, the surface of CsPbIBr2 is treated with Ti3C2Clx MXene, where the formed Pb-Cl bonds play a role in passivating defects and improving crystallization, and the adjustable work function of MXene can form a good gradient energy band at the CsPbIBr2/carbon interface. As a result, the Ti3C2Clx MXene passivation strategy successfully improves the hole extraction efficiency and inhibits the charge recombination at the interface based on the improved morphology and crystallization of the CsPbIBr2 film. Therefore, the power conversion efficiency of CsPbIBr2 solar cells has increased from 8.16 % to 10.43 %, and the long-term stability exceeds 900 h under environmental conditions of 40 % relative humidity.

Abstract:This work presents a modification strategy for optimizing CsPbIBr2 perovskite surfaces by introducing not only guanidine cations (GA+) and the NH2 group, but also forming oxide particles in an in situ reaction with selected inorganic anions. Finally, the carbon‐based all‐inorganic CsPbIBr2 perovskite solar cell with the use of aminoguanidine hemisulfate generates an optimal power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 10.10%.Favorable stability is a big challenge for the commercialization of perovskite solar cells, and all‐inorganic perovskite semiconductors have attracted much attention due to their excellent performance in this field. In reality, the poor stability is mainly due to the high‐density defects in the perovskite films, which provide a channel for charge nonradiative recombination and ion migration. In this work, a multifunctional aminoguanidine hemisulfate (AG HSUL) is introduced into the CsPbIBr2 perovskite layer to achieve defect passivation. Guanidine cations (GA+) can form strong hydrogen bonds with under‐coordinated halogen ions to stabilize the crystal lattice; the nitrogen atom in the amino group can form a complex with the under‐coordinated lead ion; inorganic acids and ions can not only compensate for halogen anion vacancies, but also combine with lead clusters or capped lead ions to reduce defect density. The synergistic effect of anions and cations can effectively passivate the defects, and an energy conversion efficiency of 10.10% is obtained at the optimal concentration of modification. In addition, carbon electrodes are used instead of metal electrodes, which greatly reduces the cost. The results provide a new idea for the development of efficient all‐inorganic CsPbIBr2 perovskite solar cells.

Abstract:Perovskite solar cells (PSCs) have emerged as a cost-effective solar technology in the past years. PSCs by three-dimensional hybrid inorganic-organic perovskites exhibited decent power conversion efficiencies (PCEs); however, their stabilities were poor. On the other hand, PSCs by all-inorganic perovskites indeed exhibited good stability, but their PCEs were low. Here, the development of novel all-inorganic perovskites CsPbI2Br:xNd3+, where Pb2+ at the B-site is partially heterovalently substituted by Nd3+, is reported. The CsPbI2Br:xNd3+ thin films possess enlarged crystal sizes, enhanced charge carrier mobilities, and superior crystallinity. Thus, the PSCs by the CsPbI2Br:xNd3+ thin films exhibit more than 20% enhanced PCEs and dramatically boosted stability compared to those based on pristine CsPbI2Br thin films. To further boost the device performance of PSCs, solution-processed 4-lithium styrenesulfonic acid/styrene copolymer (LiSPS) is utilized to passivate the surface defect and suppress surface charge carrier recombination. The PSCs based on the CsPbI2Br:xNd3+/LiSPS bilayer thin film possess reduced charge extraction lifetime and suppressed charge carrier recombination, resulting in 14% enhanced PCEs and significantly boosted stability compared to those without incorporation of the LiSPS interface passivation layer. All these results indicate that we developed a facile way to approach high-performance PSCs by all-inorganic perovskites.

Promoting the Efficiency and Stability of CsPbIBr2-Based All-Inorganic Perovskite Solar Cells Through a Functional Cu2+ Doping Strategy.

Abstract:Although organic inorganic halide perovskite solar cells (PSCs) have shown dramatically enhanced power conversion efficiencies (PCEs) in the last decade, their long-term stability is still a critical challenge for commercialization. To address this issue, tremendous research efforts have been devoted to exploring all-inorganic PSCs because of their intrinsically high structural stability. Among them, CsPbIBr2-based allinorganic PSCs have drawn increasing attention owing to their suitable band gap and favorable stability. However, the PCEs of CsPbIBr2-based PSCs are still far from those of their organic inorganic counterparts, thus inhibiting their practical applications. Herein, we demonstrate that by simply doping an appropriate amount of Cu2+ into a CsPbIBr2 perovskite lattice (0.5 at. % to Pb2+), the perovskite crystallinity and grain size are increased, the perovskite film morphology is improved, the energy level alignment is optimized, and the trap density and charge recombination are reduced. As a consequence, a decent PCE improvement from 7.81 to 10.4% is achieved along with an enhancement ratio of 33% with a CsPbIBr2-based PSC. Furthermore, the long-term stability of CsPbIBr2\-based PSCs against moisture and heat also remarkably improved by Cu2+ doping. This work provides a facile and effective route to improve the PCE and long-term stability of CsPbIBr2-based all-inorganic PSCs.
Simultaneous Power Conversion Efficiency and Stability Enhancement of Cs2AgBiBr6 Lead‐Free Inorganic Perovskite Solar Cell Through Adopting a Multifunctional Dye Interlayer

Abstract:Perovskite solar cells (PSCs) are highly promising next‐generation photovoltaic devices because of the cheap raw materials, ideal band gap of ≈1.5 eV, broad absorption range, and high absorption coefficient. Although lead‐based inorganic‐organic PSC has achieved the highest power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 25.2%, the toxic nature of lead and poor stability strongly limits the commercialization. Lead‐free inorganic PSCs are potential alternatives to toxic and unstable organic‐inorganic PSCs. Particularly, double‐perovskite Cs2AgBiBr6‐based PSC has received interests for its all inorganic and lead‐free features. However, the PCE is limited by the inherent and extrinsic defects of Cs2AgBiBr6 films. Herein, an effective and facile strategy is reported for improving the PCE and stability by introducing an N719 dye interlayer, which plays multifunctional roles such as broadening the absorption spectrum, suppressing the charge carrier recombination, accelerating the hole extraction, and constructing an appropriate energy level alignment. Consequently, the optimizing cell delivers an outstanding PCE of 2.84%, much improved as compared with other Cs2AgBiBr6‐based PSCs reported so far in the literature. Moreover, the N719 interlayer greatly enhances the stability of PSCs under ambient conditions. This work highlights a useful strategy to boost the PCE and stability of lead‐free Cs2AgBiBr6‐based PSCs simultaneously, accelerating the commercialization of PSC technology.
PbS/CdS heterojunction thin layer affords high-performance carbon-based all-inorganic solar cells

Abstract:Inherent defects such as ion migration, halide vacancies and ionic dangling bonds based on CsPbIxBr3−x devices are the main reasons for deep-level defects, non-radiative recombination and poor moisture resistance. Interface engineering has been proven to be the most direct and effective way to solve these problems. In this work, a PbS/CdS heterojunction thin layer between the CsPbI1.5Br1.5 and carbon electrode is constructed. The thin layer interacts with perovskite to reduce the trap density, inhibit carrier recombination, increase the built-in potential, inhibit ion migration and greatly improve the stability of the device. As a result, the carbon-based CsPbI1.5Br1.5 PSC achieves an open-circuit voltage of 1.315 V, a fill factor of 77.06% and a power conversion efficiency of 13.65%. As far as we know, this may be the highest efficiency reported for carbon-based CsPbI1.5Br1.5 PSCs so far. The optimized device can maintain more than 90% of the original efficiency and can be stored for 1200 h in atmospheric environment with relative humidity ≈ 30%. It can still retain 87% of the initial efficiency at temperature of 85 °C for 400 h in nitrogen environment. Our work provides a new optimization direction for the high-efficiency and stable all-inorganic PSCs.

Abstract:All-inorganic perovskite materials (Typically: CsPbI2Br) have attracted enormous attention due to their illustrious thermal stability and appropriate bandgap, and their use in perovskite solar cells (PSCs) has been extensively investigated. However, the inevitable defects of the perovskite layer, energy level mismatch between perovskite and carbon electrodes, and the phase instability of CsPbI2Br limit the power conversion efficiency (PCE) and stability of carbon-based CsPbI2Br PSCs. Herein, we demonstrate a simple and effective strategy for regulating energy level, inhibiting carrier recombination, and delaying the degradation of perovskite by modifying the surface of CsPbI2Br with a new type of 2D perovskite Cs2PtI6. The carbon-based CsPbI2Br PSCs achieve a higher PCE (13.69 %) than the control device (11.10 %). The excellent matching of the energy level and suppression of charge carrier recombination should be responsible for the improvement in efficiency. Furthermore, the excellent hydrophobic performance of Cs2PtI6 enhances the moisture resistance of the device. This study provides a potential strategy for improving the performance and stability of all-inorganic CsPbI2Br PSCs.

High‐Efficiency Carbon‐Based CsPbIBr 2 Solar Cells with Interfacial Energy Loss Suppressed by a Thin Bulk‐Heterojunction Layer

Abstract:The CsPbIBr2 perovskite has obvious advantages in balancing the stability and efficiency in inorganic perovskite solar cells (PSCs). As its large band gap of 2.08 eV, which leads to narrow spectral absorption (<600 nm), is the key limit yielding high power conversion efficiency (PCE). Here, we demonstrate that integrating a thin bulk-heterojunction (BHJ) layer (19 nm) composing the typical Poly (3-hexylthiophene-2,5-diyl) and [6,6]-phenyl methyl C61 butyric acid methyl ester (P3HT: PCBM) with CsPbIBr2 perovskite, the carbon-based all inorganic PSC achieves a much higher champion PCE (11.54%) than the original CsPbIBr2 device (8.87%), and the value is also at the highest PCE level of all inorganic CsPbIBr2 PSCs. The integration of a thin BHJ layer brings expanded light absorption range, better charge transfer dynamics, suppressed interfacial energy loss, and improved long-term stability. The unencapsulated CsPbIBr2 PSC with integrated BHJ layer shows excellent long-term stability at ambient atmosphere with high relative humidity (RH∽45%, T∽25 °C). Therefore, the BHJ integration is an effective strategy on the road to industrialization of carbon-based all inorganic PSCs with low-cost, high efficiency and excellent long-term stability.This article is protected by copyright. Abstract:With the fast growth of perovskite solar cells (PSCs), inorganic perovskite, represented by Cs-based perovskite, consistently surpasses organic perovskite solar cells in regards of photovoltaic performance. Among them, CsPbIBr2 materials stand out for their excellent efficiency and stability in all-inorganic PSCs. Unfortunately, poor solar energy utilization results from the CsPbIBr2′s wide band gap, which severely limits light harvesting. This work proposes an all-inorganic CsPbIBr2/CsSnI3 heterojunction using CsSnI3 instead of HTL based on the matched band structure of CsSnI3 and CsPbIBr2, then simulations and optimizes it using SCAPS-1D software to increase solar energy utilization and cell efficiency. The results show that the CsPbIBr2/CsSnI3 perovskite heterojunction PSC extends the absorption spectral wavelength range from 600 nm in the visible area to 960 nm in the near-infrared region, which greatly improves solar energy utilization and is more favorable to photogenerated carrier migration. The device's performance is ideal after optimization when Voc = 1.0344 V, Jsc = 39.36 mA/cm2, FF = 89.43%, and PCE = 36.41%. The device efficiency of the optimized CsPbIBr2/CsSnI3 heterojunction is 36.41%, which is significantly higher than the PCE of 5.45% for a single layer of CsPbIBr2. Moreover, the CsPbIBr2/CsSnI3 solar cell can respond to near-infrared light, enabling it to generate power at night. Consequently, this work reveals that the constructed CsPbIBr2/CsSnI3 heterojunction PSCs can enable the bright future of Cs-based inorganic PSCs for practical applications in photovoltaics and optoelectronics.

Abstract:The inferior phase stability and unsatisfactory crystal quality of inorganic lead halide perovskites have severely impeded the development of inorganic perovskite solar cells. Herein, a bifunctional Lewis base additive, phenylthiourea (PTU), is incorporated into the CsPbIBr2 precursor to simultaneously enhance the quality and ameliorate the stability of the CsPbIBr2 perovskite film. The CS group of PTU strongly coordinates with PbBr2 to form the intermediate phase in the perovskite precursor, which effectively tunes the crystallization process of CsPbIBr2 and enables the formation of high‐quality CsPbIBr2 perovskite film with high crystallinity, large crystal grains, and indistinct grain boundaries. Meanwhile, the introduction of PTU additive leads to the sulfur insertion into the interstices of CsPbIBr2 perovskite lattice, which can stabilize the perovskite phase structure and passivate the undercoordinated Pb2+ defects. With these benefits, the assembled carbon‐based perovskite solar cell based on PTU‐CsPbIBr2 perovskite film delivers a high power conversion efficiency of 10.09%. In addition, the unencapsulated device maintains over 80% of its initial efficiency after 800 h of storage under ambient air. These results demonstrate an effective strategy to improve the performance and stability of inorganic perovskite solar cells.

Abstract:CsPbI2Br inorganic perovskite has been considered as a promising candidate for application in photovoltaic devices due to its high thermal stability and reasonable bandgap of 1.92 eV. However, CsPbI2Br perovskite is sensitive to moisture, which remarkably deteriorates the stability of CsPbI2Br perovskite solar cells under the ambient conditions. Here, by using hydrophobic poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT) layer in conjunction with multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) as the hole transporting layer, we develop a stable and high-performance carbon electrode-based CsPbI2Br inorganic perovskite solar cell (PSC). The P3HT-MWCNTs composites not only can prevent moisture ingress but also enhance the holes extraction and transport. A conversion efficiency up to 10.01% with a stabilized efficiency of 8.85% is achieved for the champion device. In addition, the as-prepared carbon electrode-based CsPbI2Br PSC exhibits an excellent long-term stability which retains ∼85% of its initial value over 240 h under the ambient conditions (∼35% R.H.) without encapsulation.
Polyethyleneimine-functionalized carbon nanotubes as an interlayer to bridge perovskite/carbon for all inorganic carbon-based perovskite solar cells

Abstract:All inorganic perovskite solar cells (PSCs) have attracted tremendous attention because of their intrinsic structural stability, but they suffer from uncompetitive efficiency, especially the carbon electrode-based PSCs (C-PSCs), wherein the insufficient perovskite/carbon contact and interfacial recombination are of particular concern. To address these problems, we designed and fabricated a polyethyleneimine-functionalized carbon nanotube (PEI/CNT) interlayer and used it as a bifunctional bridge in all inorganic CsPbI3 based C-PSCs. This functionalized PEI/CNT bridge connects the perovskite layer and the carbon electrode to improve the quality of the perovskite/carbon interface and also works as an interfacial passivation layer due to the coordination ability of the anchored PEI molecules on CNTs. Systematic investigations revealed that the interfacial charge transfer resistance was reduced, and surface trap states in the perovskite film were passivated. This effort led to a remarkable power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 10.55% with a high fill factor (FF) of 0.71 for the all inorganic C-PSCs. By contrast, those without the PEI/CNT bridge only attained a PCE of 7.41% and FF of 0.56. Moreover, non-encapsulated PEI/CNT based devices also showed higher stability under high humidity or high temperature conditions. Therefore, the PEI/CNT interface bridging strategy has the potential to achieve high efficiency and high stability for the all inorganic C-PSCs.
Enhancing Optical, Electronic, Crystalline, and Morphological Properties of Cesium Lead Halide by Mn Substitution for High‐Stability All‐Inorganic Perovskite Solar Cells with Carbon Electrodes

Abstract:In this work all-inorganic perovskite CsPbIBr2 are doped with Mn to compensate their shortcomings in band structure for the application of perovskite solar cells (PSCs). The novel Mn-doped all-inorganic perovskites, CsPb1-xMnxI1+2xBr2-2x, are prepared in ambient atmosphere. As the concentration of Mn2+ ions increases, the bandgaps of CsPb1-xMnxI1+2xBr2-2x decrease from 1.89 to 1.75 eV. Additionally, when the concentration of Mn dopants is appropriate, this novel Mn-doped all-inorganic perovskite film shows better crystallinity and morphology than its undoped counterpart. These advantages alleviate the energy loss in hole transfer and facilitate the charge-transfer in perovskites, therefore, PSCs based on these novel CsPb1-xMnxI1+2xBr2-2x perovskite films display better photovoltaic performance than the undoped CsPbIBr2 perovskite films. The reference CsPbIBr2 cell reaches a power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 6.14%, comparable with the previous reports. The CsPb1-xMnxI1+2xBr2-2x cells reach the highest PCE of 7.36% (when x= 0.005), an increase of 19.9% in PCE. Furthermore, the encapsulated CsPb0.995Mn0.005I1.01Br1.99 cells exhibit good stability in ambient atmosphere. The storage stability measurements on the encapsulated PSCs reveal that PCE is dropped by only 8% of the initial value after >300 h in ambient. Such improved efficiency and stability are achieved using low-cost carbon electrodes (without expensive hole transport materials and Au electrodes).

Abstract:CsPbI3 based all inorganic perovskite solar cells with no electron transport layer structure exhibit asymmetric effects due to their unique device structure. By optimizing different device input parameters, the output performance power conversion efficiency (PCE) of the as‐designed perovskite solar cell can reach up to 18.88%, maintaining high performance while saving actual production costs. Cesium lead iodide (CsPbI3) has attracted a great deal of attention as an absorption layer material for perovskite solar cells (PSCs) with high stability and suitable band gap (1.72 eV). In response to the problems of defect‐induced nonradiative compounding and voltage loss caused by the common perovskite layer, the common strategies of interfacial engineering, altering crystal equivalence, and other modifications involve more complex processes and higher fabrication costs. In order to simplify the process and save costs, this work has omitted the electron transport layer (ETL), while still maintaining a high power conversion efficiency (PCE). This work has simulated PSCs with CsPbI3 (electron transport layer free) and have matched Cu2O as the most suitable hole transport layer (HTL) material. By simulating and optimizing the thickness and defect density of perovskite absorption layer and the defect density of interface defect layer (IDL1, IDL2), and determining the most suitable operating temperature, the PCE of the device can reach 18.8%, which is consistent with the experimental data. The asymmetric effect of the interface defect layer obtained in this work is similar to previous research reports. This research provides an economical solution for high‐performance inorganic perovskite solar cells.

Abstract:Carbon-based inorganic CsPbIBr 2 perovskite solar cells (C-IPSC) have attracted widespread attention due to their low cost and excellent thermal stability. Unfortunately, due to the soft ion crystal nature of perovskite, inherent bulk defects and energy level mismatch at the CsPbIBr 2 /carbon interface limit the performance of the device. In this study, we introduced aromatic benzyltrimethylammonium chloride (BTACl) as a passivation layer to passivate the surface and grain boundaries of the CsPbIBr 2 film. Due to the reduction of perovskite defects and better energy level arrangement, carrier recombination is effectively suppressed and hole extraction is improved. The champion device achieves a maximum power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 11.30% with reduces hysteresis and open circuit voltage loss. In addition, unencapsulated equipment exhibits excellent stability in ambient air.

Abstract:All‐inorganic perovskites have attracted substantial interest due to their outstanding thermal stability. However, the device performance is still inferior to the typical organic–inorganic counterparts because of the unsatisfying phase stability and defects of the inorganic perovskite films. Herein, a multistrategy to optimize CsPbI 2 Br perovskite solar cells (PSCs) based on dopant‐free poly(3‐hexylthiophene) (P3HT) by applying thienylmethylamine acetate additive to enhance the α phase stability and passivate the bulk defects of CsPbI 2 Br perovskite is successfully demonstrated, followed by implementing BTCIC‐4Cl interlayer at CsPbI 2 Br/P3HT interface, which can coordinate with both perovskite and P3HT to suppress the surface defects and promote the hole transport. Benefitting from these, a champion power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 16.3% is achieved, and the unencapsulated optimized device can retain 97% of the initial PCE after aging under N 2 atmosphere at 85 °C for 530 h. This work opens up a new era of multistrategy for improving performance and stability of CsPbI 2 Br PSCs based on dopant‐free hole transport layer.

Abstract:All-inorganic CsPbI2Br perovskite material has attracted enormous attention for high-performance photovoltaics due to its excellent thermal stability and suitable bandgap. Furthermore, carbon-based CsPbI2Br perovskite solar cells (C-PSCs) not only further improve the thermal and moisture stability of the devices but also reduce production costs and simplify procedure processes. However, the usage of carbon electrodes introduces new problems, such as poor interface contact and energy level mismatch. Herein, the N-phenylthiourea (PTU) with S atom and N-phenylurea (PU) with O atom are applied for interface modification materials in C-PSCs. The atoms S and O can combine with Pb and enhance perovskite crystallinity as well as manage the energy level. Meanwhile, after passivation of PTU and PU, the defect state density of the perovskite layer is significantly reduced, thereby inhibiting the recombination of carriers. The V oc of the device with PTU increases from 1.12 V to 1.22 V, 9% improvement over the control device. The efficiency of CsPbI2Br C-PSCs is improved from 10.29% to 13.01% after modification. Furthermore, the stability of the device has been improved. This study provides a strategy for developing highly efficient and stable C-PSCs.

Abstract:The ionic nature of perovskites leads to abundant defects at the interface and grain boundaries of perovskite films, which are detrimental to the performance of perovskite solar cells (PSCs). Here, I-I-VI group CsCu5S3 (CCS) nanocrystals (NCs) were used as an interlayer between the perovskite film and hole transport layer in PSCs. The CCS NCs were synthesized via a facile colloidal chemistry approach and exhibited high air stability and strong absorption in the visible-to-near infrared range. The CCS interlayer effectively passivates the interfacial defects, which strongly suppresses non-radiative recombination in the PSCs. The CCS interlayer is favorable for energy levels between the perovskite and HTM to reduce carrier recombination. As a result, the devices with a CCS interlayer delivered a champion power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 22.29% with good reproducibility and stability. In addition, the PSCs retained more than 85% of their original efficiency after storage for approximately 3000 h under ambient conditions. This work paves a new avenue for the development of high-efficiency PSCs and the application of Cu-based chalcogenide NCs.
