Abstract:Aphelinus asychis Walker (Hymenoptera: Aphelinidae) is an important solitary endoparasitoid of green peach aphid Myzus persicae (Sulzer) (Hemiptera: Aphididae). For better understanding the host discrimination mechanism of A. asychis, the external morphology, abundance and distribution of antennal sensilla of male and female adults and, also, the ovipositor and its sensilla were examined using scanning electron microscopy. Antennae of A. asychis male and female were of the geniculate type. The scape was with a radicula, and the flagellum was with 4 flagellomeres. Twelve types of antennal sensilla were found, including sensilla chaetica I, s. chaetica II, s. chaetica III; s. trichodea I, s. trichodea II, s. trichodea III, s. trichodea IV; basiconiccapitate peg sensilla; s. placodea; s. basiconica I, s. basiconica II and uniporous rod-like sensilla. Sexual dimorphism was found in the length of the flagellum, the distribution and abundance of several sensilla. The adult male flagellum was relatively longer than that of female. S. trichodea IV occurred only on antennae of wasp males, while uniporous rod-like sensilla were only on antennae of females. S. placodea and s. trichodea II were significantly more abundant in females than in males, whereas s. trichodea III were more abundant in males than females.
