Abstract:The hot deformation characteristics of the Cu-3.8Be alloy were systematically investigated through a comprehensive series of compression tests conducted on the Gleeble 3500 machine. The experiments were spanned a broad spectrum of strain rates, from 0.01 to 10 s −1 , and were conducted at deformation temperatures varying between 680 and 830 °C. A thermal compression constitutive equation was established for the Cu-3.8Be alloy using the Arrhenius model, revealing an activation energy of 267.42 kJ/mol. Furthermore, a dynamic material model was applied to generate a processing map, aiding in the identification of the optimal processing conditions. Microstructural changes were meticulously examined through scanning electron microscope, transmission electron microscope, and electron back scatter diffraction. The results show that the increase in strain rate enhances the number of β phase interfaces and promotes the particle-stimulated nucleation effect. Concurrently, sub-grain boundaries absorb a significant quantity of dislocations, leading to the creation of high-angle grain boundaries, which, in consequence, enhances the extent of recrystallization. Furthermore, an increase in grain boundary density is observed, which impedes dislocation movement and contributes to fine grain strengthening to the extent that it increases stresses.
