Abstract:An iron-catalyzed coupling reaction of methylarenes with thiols leading to thioesters has been developed. The reactions were carried out in water with tert-butyl hydroperoxide (TBHP) as the oxidant and polyoxyethanyl α-tocopheryl sebacate (PTS) as the surfactant. The reaction medium is compatible with a series of functional groups and can be reused.

Abstract:Na2SeSO3, which can be generated in situ by the reaction of Na2SO3 with Se power, was found to be an odorless reagent for the selenenylation of alkyl halides to produce dialkyl diselenides. These products have been recently shown to be good catalysts for the Baeyer–Villiger oxidation of carbonyl compounds, for the selective oxidation of alkenes, or for the oxidative deoximation of oximes. By using aqueous EtOH as the solvent and avoiding the generation of a malodourous selenol intermediate, the selenylation reaction with Na2SeSO3 is much more environmentally friendly than conventional methods. Owing to the cheap and abundant starting materials and selenium reagents, our novel synthetic method reduces the production costs of dialkyl diselenides as organoselenium catalysts, thereby advancing practical applications of organoselenium-catalysis technologies.

Abstract:A direct trifluoromethylselenolation of alcohols with the readily accessible [Me4N][SeCF3] salt has been reported. The reaction is significantly promoted by CaCl2 and proceeds smoothly through unprecedented carbonoselenoate intermediates to form the corresponding alkyl trifluoromethyl selenoethers in good yields. Abstract:A practical method for the debenzylation of aryl benzyl ethers has been developed using easy-to-operate I 2 and Et 3 SiH, as well as the green solvent ethyl acetate. Halo, methoxy, ester, and nitro groups on the benzene ring of the aryl benzyl ether are compatible with this debenzylation. Control experiments revealed that Et 3 SiI, generated in situ, might be the actual promoter of the procedure. This method does not require a separate desilylation reaction to obtain phenol products. Abstract:An efficient, chemoselective, and environment-friendly method for the deprotection of tert-butyldiphenylsilyl ethers mediated by triflic acid supported on silica gel is reported. A wide range of tert-butyldiphenylsilyl ethers derived from carbohydrate and saponin residues can be smoothly cleaved in the presence of various types of other protecting groups in good to excellent yields in acetonitrile. This heterogeneous reaction does not require aqueous workup, and the supported catalyst can be readily recycled.

Abstract:By carefully screening the organoselenium pre‐catalysts and optimizing the reaction conditions, simple dibenzyl diselenide was found to be the best pre‐catalyst for Baeyer–Villiger oxidation of (E)‐α,β‐unsaturated ketones with the green oxidant hydrogen peroxide at room temperature. The organoselenium catalyst used in this reaction could be recycled and reused several times. This new method was suitable not only for methyl unsaturated ketones, but also for alkyl and aryl unsaturated ketones. Therefore, it provided a direct, mild, practical, highly functional group‐tolerant process for the chemoselective preparation of the versatile (E)‐vinyl esters from the readily available (E)‐α,β‐unsaturated ketones. A possible mechanism was also proposed to rationalize the activity of the organoselenium catalyst in the presence of hydrogen peroxide in this Baeyer–Villiger oxidation reaction.

Abstract:Diaryl diselenides and diaryl ditellurides are commonly employed as selenyl or telluryl sources, and they have a wide range of applications in organic synthesis. Herein, various diaryl diselenides/ditellurides are furnished in moderate to excellent yields under metal-free conditions. This method features high efficiency, good functional group tolerance, straightforward operation, and easy scale-up (running in 4 mmol-scale for most cases). Mechanistic studies indicate that this reaction may proceed via a radical pathway. Significantly, the correct matching of Br – and dimethyl sulfoxide under an air atmosphere is critical to this transformation. Abstract:We have developed an efficient method for the direct dehydroxytrifluoromethylthiolation and selenolation of alcohols with CS(Se)CF3 reagent based on imidazole skeleton. The described method proposes mild conditions, which efficiently perform nucleophilic trifluoromethylthiolation and trifluoroselenolation and allowed a general access to CS(Se)CF3 bond formation under transition-metal-free conditions.

Abstract:A green and facile approach to Chlorpropham is reported in this paper.With cheap,well-available and recyclable nonmetal selenium as catalyst,carbon monoxide instead of virulent phosgene as a carbonylation reagent,Chlorpropham can be prepared directly by one-pot selenium-catalyzed redox carbonylation of m-chloronitrobenzene with isopropanol.Catalyst selenium can be easily recovered for recycling due to its phase-transfer catalysis function.A possible route to Chlorpropham was discussed,too.

Abstract:Phenyl or m-tolyl selenoamides reacted with functionalized alpha-haloacetic acid in 1 : 1 or I : 2 molar ratio with no catalyst in various alcohols to undergo a selenium transfer reaction. This reaction in different molar ratios furnished the same C-Se-Se-C coupling products with a special structure bis(alkoxycarbonylmethyl) diselenide. A new and facile method for synthesis of such bis(alkoxycarbonylmethyl) diselenides with the advantages of mild reaction conditions, high yields, easy availability of starting materials and good chemical selectivity was provided. In order to investigate the mechanism for this reaction, methyl a-bromoacetate or ethyl a-bromoacetate as starting material was added to the solution of phenyl selenoamide in ethanol in I : I or 2 : I molar ratio under the neutral condition at room temperature. The results indicated that the same product bis(methoxycarbonylmethyl) or bis(ethoxycarbonylmethyl) diselenide was formed. Byproduct ethyl benzoate was also separated. A mechanism for this C-Se-Se-C coupling reaction was proposed.

Abstract:[reaction: see text] The preparation of isoxazolyl- and isoxazolinyl-substituted olefins, based on polystyrene-supported selenenyl bromide, is described. Key steps include 1,3-dipolar cycloadditions and the alpha-alkylation reaction of selenium resins. The polystyrene-supported selenium resins used here not only facilitate separation of products, but also assist the crucial reaction of alpha-alkylation and selenoxide syn-elimination, which ensures the purity of the products.
