Abstract:Two new verazine type alkaloid glucosides, veramiline-3- O -β- d -glucopyranoside and stenophylline B-3- O -β- d -glucopyranoside have been isolated from the hypogeal parts of plants of Veratrum taliense . Their structures were established by spectroscopic data and chemical evidence.

Abstract:D-glucopyranosid e and stenophylline B-3-0-~D-glucopyranoside) and two novel steroidal alkaloids . The structures of the new compounds have been established by a combination of spectroscopic methods as 3angeloylzygadenine-I3-N-oxide and (20S,25S)-22,26-epiminocholesta-5,22-diene-3I3,12a.-diol (named veramitaline). The chemotaxonomic significance of the isolates are discussed briefly. . Most of Veratrum species, distributing mainly in the temperate regions of the Northern Hemisphere, are well known for their pharmacological potentials. Although a lot of Veratrum plants have been examined chemically to lead to the characterization of more than ninety steroidal alkaloids, much renewed attention is being paid to biologically active and/or structurally novel alkaloidal principles presumably due to their diversified biological actIvIties and structural novelties as reported recently. 1-4 As a follow-up to the phytochemical attention to Veratrum taliense Loes. f. (Liliaceae) , a frequently used traditional Chinese medicine. S • 6 The reinvestigation of the roots and rhizomes of the title species was undertaken. Abstract:Phytochemical investigation of roots and rhizomes of Veratrum taliense yielded a new and six known steroidal alkaloids as well as a new and one reported stilbene derivative. By a combination of spectral methods (IR, MS, H-1- and C-13-NMR, COSY, HMQC, HMBC, and NOESY), the structure of the new alkaloid was established as 15-angeloylgermine while the known ones were identified as 15-(2-methylbutyroyl)germine, jervine, 3-veratroylzygadenine, germine, veramiline 3-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside and stenophylline B-3-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside. The new stilbenoid, named veraphenol, was determined to be 2-(3',5'-dihydroxyphenyl)-6-hydroxybenzofuran, and the known one was shown to be resveratrol. The in vitro enzyme assay indicated that 3-veratroylzygadenine and resveratrol are inhibitors of xanthine oxidase. The enzyme inhibitory action of resveratrol, the most active compound found so far in V. taliense, is dose-dependent with the IC50 value at 30 mu M (the IC50 value of allopurinol used as a positive control in the study is 10 mu M).

Abstract:OBJECTIVE:To study the steroidal alkaloids in Veratrum dahuricum. METHOD:The compounds were isolated and purified by various column chromatographic methods. Their structures were identified by spectroscopic analysis. RESULT:Five compounds were isolated and identified as (20R, 22S, 25S)-veratra-5,13-dien-3beta-ol (1), angeloylzygadenine (2), 15-O-(2-methylbutanoyl)-3-O-veatroylprotoverine (3), 20-isoveratramine (4), veratramine (5). CONCLUSION:Compound 1 was a new compound, compounds 24 were obtained from the plant for the first time.

Abstract:A new indole alkaloidal glucoside together with three known compounds aurantiamide acetate (2), eleutheroside E (3) and 1-O-caffeoyl-β-D-glucopyranoside (4) has been isolated from ethanol extract of the aerial parts of Clematis terniflora DC. On the basis of their spectroscopic and chemical evidence, the new compound was elucidated as (6-O-β-D-glucopyranosyl-1H-indol-3-yl) carboxylic acid methyl ester (1). Compounds 1 and 3 showed significant cytotoxicity against human ECA-109.

Abstract:Bioassay-guided fractionation of the ethanol extract of the roots and rhizomes of Veratrum taliense yielded two new and thirteen known steroidal alkaloids. The structures of the two new compounds, neoverataline A and B, were established by extensive spectroscopic analyses to be 3,4-secocevane-4,9-olid-14,15,16,20-tetra-ol-3-oic acid and 3,4-secocevane-4,9-olid-7,14,15,16,20-penta-ol-3-oic acid, respectively, and are a novel carbon skelton. All of the fifteen alkaloids were subjected to in vitro antifungal assays, which showed that the verazine- (veramitaline, stenophylline B, stenophylline B-3-O-β-d-glucopyranoside, veramiline-3-O-β-d-glucopyranoside) and jerveratrum-type (jervine, jervine-3-O-β-d-glucopyranoside) alkaloids exhibited strong antifungal activities against the phytopathogenic fungus Phytophthora capisis with MICs of 160, 120, 160, 80, 80 and 120μg·L−1, respectively. Furthermore, the verazine-type alkaloids stenophylline B, stenophylline B 3-O-β-d-glucopyranoside and veramiline 3-O-β-d-glucopyranoside were shown to also inhibit the growth of another fungal phytopathogen Rhizoctonia cerealis with MICs of 160, 120 and 120 μg mL−1. The MICs of triadimefon (an antifungal agrochemical used herein as a positive control) against P. capisis and R. cerealis were 120 and 80 μg mL−1, respectively. A preliminary structure–activity relationship regarding these alkaloids has been formulated.

Abstract:Veratrazine A (1), a steroidal alkaloid with a unique 6/5/5 triheterocyclic scaffold as the side chain, was isolated from Veratrum stenophyllum, and its structure was established via spectroscopic analyses and X-ray diffraction. A plausible biosynthetic pathway for 1 is proposed. Bioassy exhibits moderate anti-inflammatory activities in vitro and in vivo.

Abstract:New talaromydien A(1)and talaroisocoumarin A (2), together with nine known compounds (3 - 11), were isolated from a culture of the marine-derivedTalaromycessp. ZZ1616 in potato dextrose broth medium. Structures of the new compounds were elucidated based on their HRESIMS data, NMR spectroscopic analyses, the modified Mosher ' s method, ECD,C-13 NMR and optical rotation calculations. Talaroisocoumarin A showed antimicrobial activities with MIC values of 36.0 mu g/mL against methicillin-resistantStaphylococcus aureus, 32.0 mu g/mL againstEscherichia coli, and 26.0 mu g/mL againstCandida albicans.

Abstract:Two new steroidal alkaloids (1–2), together with seven known related steroidal alkaloids (3–9), were isolated from the rhizomes of Veratrum nigrum L. Their structures were elucidated by extensive spectroscopic analysis, and by comparison with literature data. Compound 1 possessed a rare 1, 3-oxazolidine unit within varazine-type alkaloids, and 2 was a 9-hydroxy-4-one derivative of 3-veratroylgermine. All isolates were evaluated inhibit tomato yellow leaf curl virus (TYLCV) activity. Compounds 5 and 7 (40 μg/mL) showed a significant anti-TYLCV activity in the host Nicotiana benthamiana with inhibition rates 74.6% and 63.4%, respectively, which are higher than that of the positive control ningnamycin (51.4%).

Abstract:Two distinctive alkaloids with 6/6/6/5/6/6 fused rings, in which a previously unidentified linkage of C-12/23 generates a rigid skeleton, resulting in a new subtype of steroidal alkaloid, were isolated from Veratrum grandiflorum. Abstract:A new lignan glycoside, tianshanoside A (1), together with a known phenylpropanoid glycoside, syringin (2) and two known lignan glycosides, picraquassioside C (3), and aketrilignoside B (4), were isolated from the whole plant of Viola tianshanica Maxim. The structure of the new compound was elucidated by extensive NMR (1H, 13C, COSY, HSQC, HMBC and ROESY) and high resolution mass spectrometry analysis. The three lignans 1, 3, and 4 did not exhibit significant cytotoxicity against human gastric cancer Ags cells or HepG2 liver cancer cells. This is the first report of the isolation of a lignan skeleton from the genus Viola L.

Desv..On the basis of spectral data and chemical reaction,it was elucidated to be syringetin-3-O-beta-D-glucoside.Moreover,fourteen known compounds were isolated and identified as beta-sitosterol,stigmasterol,kaempferol,rhamnetin,ombuine,isorhamnetin,tamarixetin,kaempferol-3-O-beta-D-(6-O-p-coumaroyl)-glucosiole, isoquercitrin, D-3-O-methylinositol, 1-O-betalmethyl-glucoside,isoswertianolin,isorhamnetin-3-O-beta-D-rutinoside,and tyramine.These compounds were isolated for the first time from the aerial parts of A.pseudoalhagi.

Abstract:A new isocoumarin glycoside, 3R-(+)-5-O-[6'-O-acetyl]-α-D-glucopyranosyl-5-hydroxymellein (1), and a new phenylethanol glycoside, (−)-phenylethyl-8-O-α-L-rhamno-pyranoside (2), were isolated from the ethyl acetate extract of the fungus Xylaria sp. cfcc 87468, together with five known steroids, β-sitosterol (3), stigmast-4-en-3-one (4), ergosterol (5), (22E)-cholesta-4,6,8(14),22-tetraen-3-one (6), and 4α-methyl- ergosta-8(14),24(28)-dien-3β-ol (7). The structures of compounds 1 and 2 were elucidated by MS, extensive 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopy, and the circular dichroism (CD) spectroscopy.

Abstract:Three new glycosides with the same saccharides, namely miliusoside A (1), miliusoside B (2), and miliusoside C (3), together with five known compounds were isolated from the stems of Miliusa balansae. Their structures were elucidated on the basis of detailed spectroscopic analysis and by comparison with the spectra of related model compounds. There was a rarely encountered a-D-apiose moiety occurring in all new compounds.

Abstract:Two undescribed protostane triterpenoids, 11‐deoxy‐13(17),15‐dehydro‐alisol B 23‐acetate (2) and alisol S (3), together with 21 known ones (1, 4‐23), were isolated from the dried rhizome of Alisma plantago‐aquatica. Of these compounds, 13(17),15‐Dehydro‐alisol B 23‐acetate (1) and 11‐deoxy‐alisol Q 23‐acetate (2) are two protostane trierpenoids containing conjugated double bonds in the five‐membered ring D that are rarely found from nature resource, while alisol S (3) is a protostane triterpenoid with undescribed tetrahydrofuran moiety linked via C20‐O‐C24 at the side chain. Additionally, compound 18 is a new natural product, and cycloartenol triterpenoid 23 is a non protostane triterpenoid firstly isolated from genus Alisma. Their structures were elucidated by extensive spectral analysis of the UV, IR, MS, 1D and 2D NMR, and comparison of the experimental and calculated CD curves.
