Abstract:A phytochemical investigation on the aerial parts of Artemisia giraldii var.longipedunculata led to the isolation of 10 known sesquiterpenes,including 12-hydroxy-a-cyperone (1),1β,6a-dihydroxyeudesma-4(15)-ene (2),carainterol A (3),oplodiol (4),douglanin (5),1α-hydroxyisodauc-4-en-15-al (6),3α,6α-dihydroxybisabola-4,10-diene (7),4a,5β-dihydroxybisabola-2,10-diene (8),opposit-4(15)-ene-1β,7-diol (9),and saniculamoid D (10),respectively.Their structures were elucidated by analysis of the MS and NMR spectroscopic data and comparison with the literature.All the isolates were obtained from A.giraldii var.longipedunculata for the first time,and five of them were obtained from the genus Artemisia for the first time.Additionally,the 13C NMR data of 1 were fully assigned based on the 2D NMR data for the first time.

Abstract:One new highly oxygenated nortriterpene, named sieverlactone (1), one new sesquiterpene, 1 beta, 10 beta-epoxy-8 alpha-acetoxyachillin (2), one new natural product, 5-propinyl-thiophene-2-carboxylic acid (3), and one new thiophene, 3-hydroxy-5-propinyl-2-acetyl-thiophene (4), together with 10 other known compounds (5 - 14), were isolated from the dried aerial parts of Artemisia sieversiana. Their structures were elucidated by a combination of extensive spectroscopic analysis, including 1D, 2D NMR spectroscopic and mass spectrometric data. Meanwhile, the stereochemistry of 1 and 2 was confirmed by single-crystal X-ray diffraction technique using Cu radiation. All the isolates were evaluated for their anti-neuroinflammatory effects on the lipopolysaccharide-induced nitric oxide production in BV-2 murine microglial cells. Compounds 2, 5, and 6 exhibited the significant activities with IC50 values of 6.5 +/- 0.5, 11.9 +/- 0.7, and 10.1 +/- 0.3 mu M, respectively, comparable to the positive control, quercetin, with an IC50 value of 16.3 +/- 0.4 mu M. Abstract:The present study is to investigate the chemical constituents from the aerial parts of Artemisia myriantha. The chemical constituents were isolated by column chromatographies over silica gel, Sephadex LH-20, ODS and Semi-prep HPLC, and the structures were identified by NMR and MS data. Thirteen known compounds were isolated and identified as: blumenol A (1),(+)-dehydrovomifoliol (2),(+)-3-hydroxy-β-ionone (3),(3R, 6R, 7E)-3-hydroxy-4, 7-megastigmadien-9-one (4),(-)-10-oxo-isodauc-3-en-15-oic acid (5),isoerivanin (6),eudesmafraglaucolide (7), artanomalide A (8),13-acetoxy-3β-hydroxy-germacra-1(10) E,4E,7(11)-trien-12,6α-olide (9),13-acetoxy-3β-tigloyl-germacra-1(10) E, 4E, 7(11)-trien-12, 6α-olide (10),13-acetoxy-3β-(3-methylbutanoyl)-germacra-1(10)E, 4E, 7(11)-trien-12, 6α-olide (11),3,9-diacetoxy-13-hydroxy-1(10), 4, 7(11)-germacratrien-12,6α-olide (12), and 8α-angeloyloxycostunolide (13). Compounds 1-6 and 13 were obtained from the genus Artemisia for the first time, and 7-9 and 12 were isolated from this plant for the first time. Compound 8 exhibited selective cytotoxicity against human colon cancer (HCT-8) and human gastric cancer (BGC-823) with IC₅₀ values of 2.33 and 4.53 μmol•L ⁻¹, respectively.

Abstract:AIM: To study chemical constituents of the aerial parts of Artemisia anomala (Asteraceae). METHODS: The constituents were isolated with silica gel, ODS column chromatography and semi-preparative HPLC, and their structures were elucidated on the basis of physical characteristics and spectral data. RESULTS: Eight compounds were obtained, and their structures were identified as 3 beta-ethoxytanapartholide (1), (4S*, 5S*)-dihydro-5-[( 1R*, 2S*)-2-hydroxy-2-methyl-5-oxo-3-cyclopenten-1-yl]-3-methylene-4-(3-oxobutyl)-2(3H)-furanone (2), ligucyperonol (3), cyperusol C (4), santamarin (5), 1 alpha, 2 alpha, 3 alpha, 4 alpha, 10 alpha -pentahydroxyguaia-11(13)-ene-12, 6 alpha-olide (6), balanophonin (7), methyl 3-(2'-hydroxy-4'-methoxyphenyl) propanoate (8). CONCLUSION: Compound 1 was a new artifact, 4 and 8 were isolated from the genus Artemisia for the first time, and compounds 2-3, 5-7 were isolated from this plant for the first time.

Abstract:Chemical constituents were isolated and purified from ethyl acetate fraction of Arctium lappa leaves by silica gel, ODS, MCI, and Sephadex LH-20 column chromatography. Their structures were identified with multiple spectroscopical methods including NMR, MS, IR, UV, and X-ray diffraction combined with literature data. Twenty compounds(1-20) were identified and their structures were determined as arctanol(1), citroside A(2), melitensin 15-O-β-D-glucoside(3), 11β,13-dihydroonopordopicrin(4), 11β,13-dihydrosalonitenolide(5), 8α-hydroxy-β-eudesmol(6), syringin(7), dihydrosyringin(8), 3,4,3',4'-tetrahydroxy-δ-truxinate(9),(+)-pinoresinol(10), phillygenin(11), syringaresinol(12), kaeperferol(13), quercetin(14), luteolin(15), hyperin(16), 4,5-O-dicaffeoylquinic acid(17), 1H-indole-3-carboxaldehyde(18), benzyl-β-D-glucopyranoside(19), and N-(2'-phenylethyl) isobutyramide(20). Among them, compound 1 is a new norsesquiterpenoid, and compounds 2-5, 7-8, and 18-20 are isolated from this plant for the first time.

Abstract:Six compounds including the new monoterpene 5 R -hydroxy-2,3,6-trimethylcyclohepta-2,6-dien-1-one ( 1 ) and the five compounds ( 2 – 6 ) identified as 2 α ,5 β -dihydroxy- β -pinene ( 2 ), 4-hydroxyacetophenone ( 3 ), syringaldehyde ( 4 ), 5-hydroxy-4-isopropylfuran-2(5 H )-one ( 5 ), and chenopanone ( 6 ) were isolated from the aerial part of Artemisia austriaca and from this plant for the first time. Their molecular formula and chemical structures were established.

Abstract:A new eudesmanolide and seven sesquiterpene lactones with a new carbon skeleton were isolated from the aerial parts of Artemisia santolinifolia. Four of the new compounds were partially degraded. The biogenesis of these compounds is discussed. Furthermore, several glucopyranosides were present, three derived from phenolics, two from thujane, one from vomifoliol A and one from dimethylvinylcarbinol. The structures were elucidated by high field NMR techniques.

Abstract:Two new 18-norschiartane-type schinortriterpenoids, namely wuwezidilactones Q (1) and R (2) were isolated from the stems of Schisandra lancifolia. Their structures were determined on the basis of extensive spectroscopic analysis. The absolute configurations of the new compounds were further determined by ROESY and an empirical comparison of their experimental ECD spectra with literature.

Abstract:Two new disesquiterpenoids (1 and 2) and 11 new (3-13) and 10 known (14-23) sesquiterpenoids were isolated from the whole plants of Artemisia freyniana. Their structures were elucidated by spectroscopic data analysis and comparison with published NMR data. The absolute configurations of the new isolates (1-13) were assigned based on single-crystal X-ray diffraction data and comparison of the experimental and calculated ECD data. The eremophilane derivatives 8 and 9 possess an unprecedented 2-isopropyl-3,7,7a-trimethyl-2,4,5,6,7,7a-hexahydro-1 H-indene scaffold, and a putative biosynthetic pathway for these compounds is proposed. Compounds 4, 5, and 9 exhibited inhibitory effects against LPS-stimulated nitric oxide (NO) production in RAW 264.7 macrophage cells with IC50 values of 10.8, 12.6, and 11.7 μM, respectively.

Abstract:A new dimeric guaianolide (8) and a new glaucolide (3), a seco-guaiaretic acid (4), two guaianolides (6 and 7), and five known sesquiterpene lactones (1, 2, 5, 9, and 10) were isolated from the aerial part of Artemisia anomala. Abstract:A new sesquiterpene, rupestrisin A (1), and three new thiophene derivatives, rupestrienes A–C (2–4), were isolated from Artemisia rupestris. Their structures were determined by analyses of MS and NMR spectroscopic data, and the absolute configuration of 1 was established by calculated ECD spectra using time-dependent density functional theory. In in vitro bioassays, compounds 1–4 showed inhibitory effects on LPS-stimulated NO production in BV-2 microglial cells with IC50 values of 24.3, 20.3, 8.5, and 5.3 μM, respectively.

Abstract:Fourteen known compounds were isolated from the aerial parts of Artemisia anomala and identified as follows:zhepiresinol(1),(-)-lariciresinol(2),ficusal(3),medioresinol(4),(+)-syringaresinol(5),1β,2β-epoxy-3β,4α,10α-trihydroxyguaian-6α,12-olide(6),5β,10α-dihydroxy-1αH-dehydroleucodin(7),3α-chloro-8α-acetoxy-4β,10α-dihydroxy-1β,2β-epoxy-5α,7αHguai-11(13)-en-12,6α-olide(8),13-O-desacetyleudesma-afraglaucolide(9),1,10-seco-4ξ-hydroxy-muurol-5-ene-1,10-diketone(10),1α-hydroxyafraglaucolide(11),aurantiamide(12),indole-3-aldehyde(13),loliolide(14).All these compounds were isolatedfrom this plant for the first time and compounds 1-4,8,10,13 were obtained from genus Artemisia for the first time.

Abstract:Objective: To study the chemical constituents from the roots of Curcuma longa. Methods: The structures of the compounds were elucidated based on extensive spectral analysis, including 1D and 2D NMR, MS, UV, and CD analysis. Results: Two new sesquiterpene compounds (1S,2R,5R,7S,8R)-2,8-epoxy-5-hydroxybisabola-3,10-dioen-9-one (1), (1R,2R,5R,7S,8R)-2,8-epoxy-5-hydroxybisabola-3,10-dioen-9-one (2), and a new natural product 6-(4-Hydroxymethylphenyl)-2-methyl-hept-2-ene-4-one (3) together with three known compounds ar-turmerone (4), 2-methyl-6-(4-hydroxyphenyl-3-methyl)-2-hepten-4-one (5) and 2-methyl-6-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-2-hepten-4-one (6) were isolated from C. longa root extract with 95% ethanol. Conclusion: In the study, three new compounds were isolated from C. longa, and their absolute configurations were determined.

Abstract:The aerial parts of Artemisia sieversiana afforded, in addition to β-sitosterol, stigmasterol and daucosterol, two novel lignans as well as one known and three new guaianolides. The roots of Inula racemosa gave β-sitosterol, daucosterol and isoalantolactone. The structures were determined by a combination of spectral methods (IR, EIMS, 1H and 13C NMR, DEPT, COSY, NOESY and HETCOR). All isolates were subjected to antifungal tests. Isoalantolactone, a major sesquiterpene lactone of I. racemosa, was found to be active against the human pathogenic fungi, Aspergillus flavus, A. niger, Geotrichum candidum, Candida tropicalis and C. albicans at concentrations of 50, 50, 25, 25 and 25 μg\ml, respectively. The taxonomic significance of the characterized constituents is discussed briefly.

Abstract:The chemical analysis on petroleum ether extract of Artemisia argyi resulted in the identification of 11 terpenoids, including an undescribed monocyclic monoterpenoid, artemisinicol A ( 1 ), along with ten known compounds ( 2 – 11 ). Their structures were elucidated by extensive spectroscopic analysis (including 1D, 2D NMR, and HR-MS) and ECD calculation. The in vitro tumor growth inhibitory property of the compound 1 was further assessed.

Abstract:Chemical exploration of Artemisia myriantha Wall. ex Bess (Asteraceae) aerial parts afforded one new seco-guaianolide (1) and one new germacranolide (2). Structure elucidation of the new compounds was unambiguously performed based on HRESIMS, 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopic analyses. The two new compounds exhibited in vitro strong cytotoxic activities against human cancer cell lines HCT-8 with IC50 values of 0.76 and 0.28 μM, respectively.

Abstract:A new thymol type monoterpene, 2 alpha-methoxyl-3 beta-methyl-6-(acetyl-O-methyl)-2,3-dihydrobenzofuran (1), and a new cadinane-type sesquiterpenoid, 1,6-dihydroxy-1-isopropyl-4,7-dimethyl-3,4-dihydronaphthalen-2(1H)-one (2), were isolated from the roots of Ageratina adenophora, along with four known compounds, eupatorenone (3), 3-hydroxymuurola-4,7(11)-dien-8-one (4), 9-oxoageraphorone (5) and (4R,5S)-4-Hydroxy-5-isopropyl-2-methyl-2-cyclohexehone (6). Their structures were determined by spectroscopic methods, including nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and mass spectrometry (MS) techniques. These compounds were all isolated from the roots of this plant for the first time. Compounds 1, 3 and 4 showed in vitro bacteriostatic activity against three test Gram-positive bacteria with MIC values ranging from 12.5 to 50 mu g/mL. While, no obvious inhibitory activity was detected for the other compounds.
