Abstract:This paper describes an experimental study on a concrete wall member due to fire exposure on one side, in which the tests were conducted by a specially designed automatic fire simulation test furnace. Temperature distribution and variation inside the member were measured through embedded in the concrete member, and based on which the results were discussed. In addition, after the fire a new method of measuring acoustic decrepitation of fluid inclusion in natural quartz sand contained in the concrete was also used to determining the highest temperature distribution inside the concrete wall member. Besides, the explosive spatting, temperature plateau and instant spike in concrete due to fire exposure was discussed through different heating procedures. The results show that: the heating curves in concrete exhibit significant nonlinearity and a reversed s-shape; Greater temperature gradient was detected with closer distance to the heating surface; the explosive spatting of concrete at elevated temperature could be linked to moisture content of concrete, heating rate and the position of reinforcing steel bar in members. The test results offluid inclusion decrepitation thermometry agreed quite well with that of thermocouple thermometer method, which confirmed the veracity and validity of. acoustic decrepitation method in measuring the temperature distribution inside concrete.
