Abstract:A formula to calculate a norm overlap between Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov (HFB) states with the odd number parity (one quasi-particle excited states) is derived with help of the Grassmann numbers and the Fermion coherent states. The final form of the formula is expressed in terms of a product of the Pfaffian for a neighboring even-even system (the zero quasi-particle state), and an extra factor consisting of the Bogoliubov transformation matrix and the anti-symmetric matrix in Thouless' HFB ansatz for the even-even system.

Abstract:The finite families of biorthogonal rational functions and orthogonal polynomials of Hahn type are interpreted algebraically in a unified way by considering the three-generated meta Hahn algebra and its finite-dimensional representations. The functions of interest arise as overlaps between eigensolutions of generalized and ordinary eigenvalue problems on the representation space. The orthogonality relations and bispectral properties naturally follow from the framework.

Construction and analysis of symmetry breaking operators for the pair $(\operatorname{GL}(n+1,\mathbb{R}),\operatorname{GL}(n,\mathbb{R}))$

Abstract:The pair of real reductive groups $(G,H)=(\operatorname{GL}(n+1,\mathbb{R}),\operatorname{GL}(n,\mathbb{R}))$ is a strong Gelfand pair, i.e. the multiplicities $\dim\operatorname{Hom}_H(\pi|_H,\tau)$ are either $0$ or $1$ for all irreducible Casselman-Wallach representations $\pi$ of $G$ and $\tau$ of $H$. This paper is concerned with the construction of explicit intertwining operators in $\operatorname{Hom}_H(\pi|_H,\tau)$, so-called symmetry breaking operators, in the case where both $\pi$ and $\tau$ are principal series representations. Such operators come in families that depend meromorphically on the induction parameters, and we show how to normalize them in order to make the parameter dependence holomorphic. This is done by establishing explicit Bernstein-Sato identities for their distribution kernels as well as explicit functional identities for the composition of symmetry breaking operators with standard Knapp-Stein intertwining operators for $G$ and $H$. We also show that the obtained normalization is optimal and identify a subset of parameters for which the family of operators vanishes. Finally, we relate the operators to the local archimedean Rankin-Selberg integrals and use this relation to evaluate them on the spherical vectors.

Abstract:We consider 9 Gaussian matrix ensembles characterized by single symmetry among the 38-fold symmetry classification classes of non-Hermitian random matrices, and establish exact duality formulae of certain observables between them. Particularly, averaged products of K characteristic polynomials in an N×N matrix ensemble can be expressed in terms of another K×K matrix ensemble. Our method is to combine matrix-valued heat equations and differential identities for determinants and Pfaffians and has more possible applications.

On Matrices Arising in Finite Field Hypergeometric Functions

Abstract:Lehmer constructs four classes of matrices constructed from roots of unity for which the characteristic polynomials and the $k$-th powers can be determined explicitly. Here we study a class of matrices which arise naturally in transformation formulas of finite field hypergeometric functions and whose entries are roots of unity and zeroes. We determine the characteristic polynomial, eigenvalues, eigenvectors, and $k$-th powers of these matrices. In particular, the eigenvalues are natural systems of products of Jacobi sums.

Abstract:In this paper, certain connections between complex symmetric operators and anti-automorphisms of singly generated C*-algebras are established. This provides a C*-algebra approach to the norm closure problem for complex symmetric operators. For T is an element of B(H) satisfying C*(T) boolean AND K(H) = {0}, we give several characterizations for T to be a norm limit of complex symmetric operators. As applications, we give concrete characterizations for weighted shifts with nonzero weights to be norm limits of complex symmetric operators. In particular, we prove a conjecture of Garcia and Poore. On the other hand, it is proved that an essentially normal operator is a norm limit of complex symmetric operators if and only if it is complex symmetric. We obtain a canonical decomposition for essentially normal operators which are complex symmetric.

Abstract:We prove the universality of the joint distribution of an eigenvalue and the corresponding diagonal eigenvector overlap, in the bulk and at the edge, for eigenvalues of complex matrices and real eigenvalues of real matrices. As part of the proof we obtain a bound for the least non-zero singular value of $X-z$ when $z$ is an edge eigenvalue and a bound for the inner product between left and right singular vectors of $X-z$ when $|z|=1+O(N^{-1/2})$.

Abstract:In the $q^{-1}$-symmetric Askey scheme, namely the $q^{-1}$-Askey--Wilson, continuous dual $q^{-1}$-Hahn, $q^{-1}$-Al-Salam--Chihara, continuous big $q^{-1}$-Hermite and continuous $q^{-1}$-Hermite polynomials, we compute bilateral discrete and continuous orthogonality relations. We also derive a $q$-beta integral which comes from the continuous orthogonality relation for the $q^{-1}$-Askey--Wilson polynomials. In the $q\to 1^{-}$ limit, this $q$-beta integral corresponds to a beta integral of Ramanujan-type which we present and provide two proofs for.

Abstract:Exceptional points of a class of non-hermitian Hamilton operators $\hat H$ of the form $\hat H=\hat H_0+i\hat H_1$ are studied, where $\hat H_0$ and $\hat H_1$ are hermitian operators. Finite dimensional Hilbert spaces are considered. The linear operators $\hat H_0$ and $\hat H_1$ are given by spin matrices for spin $s=1/2,1,3/2,\dots$. Since the linear operators studied are nonnormal, properties of such operators are described.

Abstract:We show that, for each symmetry class based on the tenfold way classification, the effective Dirac operator obtained by integrating out the additional bulk direction takes a value in the corresponding classifying space, from which we obtain the flat band Hamiltonian. We then obtain the overlap Dirac operator for each symmetry class and establish the Ginsparg--Wilson relation associated with $\mathcal{C}$ and $\mathcal{T}$ symmetries, and also the mod-two index theorem.

Abstract:Using the notion of integral distance to analytic functions, we give a characterization of Schatten class Hankel operators acting on doubling Fock spaces on the complex plane and use it to show that for $f\in L^{\infty}$, if $H_{f}$ is Hilbert-Schmidt, then so is $H_{\bar{f}}$. This property is known as the Berger-Coburn phenomenon. When $0<p\le 1$, we show that the Berger-Coburn phenomenon fails for a large class of doubling Fock spaces. Along the way, we illustrate our results for the canonical weights $|z|^m$ when $m>0$.

Weakly interlacing polynomials and totally nonnegative Hurwitz matrices

Abstract:Well-known theorems in classical analysis tell us that a pair $p_0$, $p_1$ of real polynomials with positive coefficients have simple, interlacing roots if and only if all nontrivial minors of a certain infinite matrix associated to $p_0$ and $p_1$ -- called the Hurwitz matrix $H(p_0,p_1)$ -- are strictly positive. What happens if we relax one side of this equivalence, allowing $p_0$ and $p_1$ to weakly interlace, i.e. have shared and/or repeated roots? It has been shown in this case that $H(p_0,p_1)$ is still totally nonnegative. In the present work, we prove the converse statement: if $H(p_0,p_1)$ is totally nonnegative, then $p_0$ and $p_1$ weakly interlace. Thus our result completes the analogy between the strict and weak versions of this equivalence. The proof employs Temperley-Lieb immanants, first introduced by Rhoades and Skandera.

Abstract:Let $H$ be a Hilbert space that can be embedded as a dense subspace of a Banach space $X$ such that the norm of the embedding is equal to $1$. We consider the following statements for a nonzero vector $\varphi$ in $H$: (A) $\|\varphi\|_X = \|\varphi\|_H$. (H) $\|\varphi+f\|_X \geq \|\varphi\|_X$ for every $f$ in $H$ such that $\langle f, \varphi \rangle =0$. We use duality arguments to establish that (A) $\implies$ (H), before turning our attention to the special case when the Hilbert space in question is the Hardy space $H^2(\mathbb{T}^d)$ and the Banach space is either the Hardy space $H^1(\mathbb{T}^d)$ or the weak product space $H^2(\mathbb{T}^d) \odot H^2(\mathbb{T}^d)$. If $d=1$, then the two Banach spaces are equal and it is known that (H) $\implies$ (A). If $d\geq2$, then the Banach spaces do not coincide and a case study of the polynomials $\varphi_\alpha(z) = z_1^2 + \alpha z_1 z_2 + z_2^2$ for $\alpha\geq0$ illustrates that the statements (A) and (H) for the two Banach spaces describe four distinct sets of functions.

Overlap Identities for Littlewood-Schur Functions

Abstract:Our results revolve around a new operation on partitions, which we call overlap. We prove two overlap identities for so-called Littlewood-Schur functions. Littlewood-Schur functions are a generalization of Schur functions, whose study was introduced by Littlewood. More concretely, the Littlewood-Schur function $LS_\lambda(X; Y)$ indexed by the partition $\lambda$ is a polynomial in the variables $X \cup Y$ that is symmetric in both $X$ and $Y$ separately. The first overlap identity represents $LS _\lambda(X; Y)$ as a sum over subsets of $X$, while the second overlap identity essentially represents $LS_\lambda(X; Y)$ as a sum over pairs of partitions whose overlap equals $\lambda$. Both identities are derived by applying Laplace expansion to a determinantal formula for Littlewood-Schur functions due to Moens and Van der Jeugt. In addition, we give two visual characterizations for the set of all pairs of partitions whose overlap is equal to a partition $\lambda$.

Abstract:In this paper, we extend the Brown-Halmos theorems to the Fock space and investigate the range of the Berezin transform. We observe that there are non-pluriharmonic functions $u$ that can be written as a finite sum $B(u)=\sum_lf_l\overline{g_l}$, where $f_l,g_l$ are holomorphic functions belonging to the class $\mathrm{Sym}(\mathbb{C}^n)$. In addition, we solve an open question about the zero product of Toeplitz operators, which was posed by Bauer et al. in 2015. Our results reveal that the Brown-Halmos theorems on the Fock space are more complicated than that on the classical Bergman space.

Pfaffian structure of the eigenvector overlap for the symplectic Ginibre ensemble

Abstract:We study the integrable structure and scaling limits of the conditioned eigenvector overlap of the symplectic Ginibre ensemble of Gaussian non-Hermitian random matrices with independent quaternion elements. The average of the overlap matrix elements constructed from left and right eigenvectors, conditioned to $x$, are derived in terms of a Pfaffian determinant. Regarded as a two-dimensional Coulomb gas with the Neumann boundary condition along the real axis, it contains a kernel of skew-orthogonal polynomials with respect to the weight function $\omega^{(\mathrm{over})}(z)=|z-\overline{x}|^2(1+|z-x|^2)e^{-2|z|^2}$, including a non-trivial insertion of a point charge. The mean off-diagonal overlap is related to the diagonal (self-)overlap by a transposition, in analogy to the complex Ginibre ensemble. For $x$ conditioned to the real line, extending previous results at $x=0$, we determine the skew-orthogonal polynomials and their skew-kernel with respect to $\omega^{(\mathrm{over})}(z)$. This is done in two steps and involves a Christoffel perturbation of the weight $\omega^{(\mathrm{over})}(z)=|z-\overline{x}|^2\omega^{(\mathrm{pre})}(z)$, by computing first the corresponding quantities for the unperturbed weight $\omega^{(\mathrm{pre})}(z)$. Its kernel is shown to satisfy a differential equation at finite matrix size $N$. This allows us to take different large-$N$ limits, where we distinguish bulk and edge regime along the real axis. The limiting mean diagonal overlaps and corresponding eigenvalue correlation functions of the point processes with respect to $\omega^{(\mathrm{over})}(z)$ are determined. We also examine the effect on the planar orthogonal polynomials when changing the variance in $\omega^{(\mathrm{pre})}(z)$, as this appears in the eigenvector statistics of the complex Ginibre ensemble.

Abstract:Let $H^{\infty}$ be the Banach algebra of bounded analytic functions on the unit open disc $\mathbb{D}$ equipped with the supremum norm. As well known, inner functions play an important role of in the study of bounded analytic functions. In this paper, we are interested in the study of inner functions. Following by the canonical inner-outer factorization decomposition, define $Q_{inn}$ and $Q_{out}$ the maps from $H^{\infty}$ to $\mathfrak{I}$ the set of inner functions and $\mathfrak{F}$ the set of outer functions, respectively. In this paper, we study the $H^{2}$-norm continuity and $H^{\infty}$-norm discontinuity of $Q_{inn}$ and $Q_{out}$ on some subsets of $H^{\infty}$. On the other hand, the Beurling theorem connects invariant subspaces of the multiplication operator $M_z$ and inner functions. We show the nonexistence of continuous cross section from some certain invariant subspaces to inner functions in the supremum norm. The continuity problem of $Q_{inn}$ and $Q_{out}$ on $\textrm{Hol}(\overline{\mathbb{D}})$, the set of all analytic functions in the closed unit disk, are also considered.
