Abstract:Because of long driving chain and great system load inertia, the serial manipulator has a serious time delay problem which leads to significant real-time tracking control errors and damages the welding quality finally. In order to solve the time delay problem and enhance the welding quality, an adaptive real-time predictive compensation control(ARTPCC) is presented in this paper. The ARTPCC technique combines offline identification and online compensation. Based on the neural network system identification technique, the ARTPCC technique identifies the dynamic joint model of the 6-DOF serial arc welding manipulator offline. With the identified dynamic joint model, the ARTPCC technique predicts and compensates the tracking error online using the adaptive friction compensation technique. The ARTPCC technique is proposed in detail in this paper and applied in the real-time tracking control experiment of the 6-DOF serial arc welding manipulator. The tracking control experiment results of the end-effector reference point of the manipulator show that the presented control technique reduces the tracking error, enhances the system response and tracking accuracy efficiently. Meanwhile, the welding experiment results show that the welding seam turns more continuous, uniform and smooth after using the ARTPCC technique. With the ARTPCC technique, the welding quality of the 6-DOF serial arc welding manipulator is highly improved.

Abstract:Trajectory planning for the welding robot manipulator plays an important role at the intelligent control of industrial robot. The traditional robot welding method, which based on an antique welding process, was hard to control the robot intelligently. As a result, it can't meet the industrial demand of high efficiency and low energy consumption well. This paper, based on the Denavit-Hartenberg theory and Hamilton circuit ideas, optimizes the welding robot's welding task from the system energy and time respectively. The ability of self-study on track programming for manipulator was effective of industrial demand. Robot welding chip verified that this control algorithm.

Abstract:When the Rail-free welding robot walking along the curved seam and implementing a welding task, not only the position error of the welding torch is brought up by the leading sensor, but also the velocity error is brought up caused by the weld gun's offset installation. Therefore, the speed of the torch has a deviation to the given welding speed, and the travel direction of the torch is inconsistent to the seam direction, which affects the welding parameters and forming quality. In view of this situation, this article established the kinematics model of the rail-free welding robot, brought up a control method for the robot. Result shows this method gives a precisely movement control for the welding torch's position, speed and direction, which provides a good foundation for the welding process.

Abstract:A mathematical model is built for the curved seam tracking problem of wheeled welding mobile robot used in shipbuilding and large spherical tank welding.A novel controller is designed which is based on the integral backstepping time-varying state feedback method and the system stability is proved with Laypunov method.In consideration of the fact that the rotating arc sensor can only measure the single orientation errors,the azimuth of the tracking trajectory is estimated based on the previous and current locations of the welding torch's front point.Not only the moving and rotating velocity of the robot is controlled,but also the moving velocity of the cross-slider is controlled,making the tracking more quickly and smoothly.In the end,the validity of the method is proved through numerical and practical movement simulations of the robot.
A Feature Matching Algorithm Applied to Welding Trajectory Revising

Abstract:Laser welding robots usually adopt the method of "teach and playback". Practically, if the weldment is placed inaccurately, it will have to be taught again. In order to solve this problem, we establish a high efficient system to revise welding trajectory automatically, which adopt improved SIFT algorithm to get the mapping relationship between standard weldments and on-line weldments. Firstly, we calibrate camera parameters based on planar constraint. Secondly, we adopt the improved SIFT algorithm to calculate the feature points, which can raise matching ratio and decrease the computing complexity. Next, we match key points of standard weldments and on-line weldments through kNN algorithm. Thirdly, we use the homography matrix to map the matched points from image coordinate to world coordinate so as to get affine matrix. Finally, we can achieve the goal of translating the welding trajectory between standard weldment and on-line weldment.

Abstract:Real-time tracking welding with the assistance of structured light vision enhances the intelligence of robotic welding, which significantly shortens teaching time and guarantees accuracy for user-customized product welding. However, the robustness of most image processing algorithms is deficient during welding practice, and the security regime for tracking welding is not considered in most trajectory recognition and control algorithms. For these two problems, an adaptive feature extraction algorithm was proposed, which can accurately extract the seam center from the continuous, discontinuous or fluctuating laser stripes identified and located by the CNN model, while the prior model can quickly remove a large amount of noise and interference except the stripes, greatly improving the extraction accuracy and processing speed of the algorithm. Additionally, the embedded Pauta criterion was used to segmentally process the center point data stream and to cyclically eliminate outliers and further ensure the accuracy of the welding reference point. Experimental results showed that under the guarantee of the above-mentioned seam center point extraction and correction algorithms, the tracking average error was 0.1 mm, and even if abnormal trajectory points existed, they did not cause welding torch shaking, system interruption or other accidents.

Abstract:According to the requirements for tower crane welding robots, precisely planning the welding trajectory is essential. The optimal model for the least-time trajectory planning for the robot is established by Bezier curve, which has the characteristic of sub-section processing. With the consideration of constraints such as joint angular velocity and acceleration, the specific operation steps of genetic algorithm (GA) optimization are presented. A weld seam trajectory example is then proposed, and the simulation of a robot’s trajectory planning is carried out. The result shows that the curve is smooth and steady, and can satisfy the requirements of tower crane welding operations. This method significantly reduces the motion time, and improves working efficiency.

Abstract:The efficiency of the off-line programming for the arc welding robots depends on the complexity of the workpieces and the welding experience of the technician. When the workpieces or fixtures are redesigned or the robot workstation layout is changed, the result of prior off-line programming cannot be reused. With the thought of CAD/CAPP/CAM integration, this paper presents a feature mapping algorithm, which converts the design features of the workpieces to the machining features of the seams. Then a motion navigation method based on feature mapping in a simulation environment is proposed. This method comprises initial position guiding and seam tracking. For initial position guiding, a motion path with the least energy consumption is generated based on the weighted optimal control; then the path is revised for avoiding obstacles by setting the path tags dynamically. For seam tracking, the seam is dispersed into discrete welding points; then the welding gun moves through each point according to the welding sequence. The method is implemented in the development of an off-line programming simulation system. Industrial cases of the welding robot workcell layout for automobile door frames show the method can make the off-line programming much more effective.

Abstract:Start point guiding and seam tracking are important parts of the robot's intelligent welding process. However, some start point guiding methods have a large amount of calculation and low accuracy. In addition, due to the large curvature of the curved weld, the problem of visual advance in seam tracking should be solved. Therefore, an efficient and accurate start point guiding and seam tracking method for curve weld is proposed in this article. First, according to the characteristics of structural light of different welds, more efficient and accurate start point detection algorithms are proposed for curve v-groove welds and curve lap welds. The extraction of key characteristic points and the judgment of the relationship between them could achieve efficient weld start point detection, and the reasonable robot speed planning during the start point searching process could improve the accuracy of the start point guiding. Besides, a sliding data queue method with cubic B-spline fitting is proposed to overcome the visual advance problem and achieve accurate seam tracking of curve welds. The sliding data queue method can plan the data queue automatically, and improve the computational efficiency by reducing the amount of data to be processed. Cubic B-spline fitting can reduce the measurement error and eliminate the data fluctuation, so as to obtain a smooth welding trajectory. The experimental results show that the proposed method could achieve efficient and accurate start point guiding and seam tracking of curve v-groove weld and lap weld.

Abstract:This paper presents a new kinematics modeling of the intelligent arc welding in the real time trajectory tracking. The new method is called welded line tangent method which forms a kinematics model for the robot operating in the bent degree based on the judgment of the tacking system. With the method, the kinematics models for the four wheel robot and instantaneous of mobile machine was set up. Experimental results show that control characters and accuracy are satisfactory and this controller can meet the requirements of the welding application

Abstract:For the container ripple line fillet seams tracking,it is necessary not only to control welding-torch moving along with the seams,but also to adjust inclination of the the torch perpendicular to the welding surface.In this paper,a wheeled mobile welding robot with a cross-slider manipulator that can extend and turn was developed.A rotational arc sensor was used to detect the welding-torch deviations and inclinations simultaneously.Through controlling three joints coordinate movement,welding seam tracking and welding-torch inclination adjusting were achieved.The kinematics model of the mobile robot is established,and with fuzzy control theory,a controller was designed.Through actual welding experiments,the validity of the proposed method is proved.

Abstract:Welding automation is a key to the improvement of welding quality and efficiency, and welding seam tracking is an important part of welding automation. This paper introduces the design of Fuzzy-Controller based on the virtual prototyping of mobile welding robot, then this controller is used for the tracking simulation of straight line, oblique line and curve weld seam with ADAMS and MATLAB software associated simulation integrating with mechanical and control system. The result proves that the control method is practical and available.

Abstract:Purpose - This study aims to improve the welding quality and efficiency, and an algorithm should be designed to realize tracking space-curved fillet weld joints.Design/methodology/approach - Fillet weld joints tracking based on the two wheels and the horizontal slider coordinated movement has been studied. The method of pattern recognition is used to identify the height deviation, and the analysis of the accuracy corresponding to recognizing height deviations has been researched. The proportional control algorithm is used to control the vertical and horizontal sliders movement, so fillet weld joints tracking in the height direction has been achieved. Based on wheels and vertical and horizontal sliders coordinated movement, the algorithm of space-curved fillet weld joints tracking has been researched.Findings - Some experiments have been done, and experimental results show that the welding robot can track space-curved fillet weld joints with high accuracy and good reliability.Research limitations/implications - The welding robot can improve the welding quality and efficiency.Practical implications - The welding robot can track fillet weld joints in ship panels, and it was shown that the welding robot could track space-curved fillet weld joints with high accuracy and good reliability. Social implications - The welding robot has many industrial and social applications.Originality/value - There are various forms of fillet weld joints in the industry, and the fillet weld is curved in the space. Experimental results show that the welding robot can track space-curved fillet weld joints with good stability and high precision.

Abstract:The field of inspection for welded structures is currently in a state of rapid transformation driven by a convergence of global technological, regulatory, and economic factors. This evolution is propelled by several key drivers, including the introduction of novel materials and welding processes, continuous advancements in inspection technologies, innovative approaches to weld acceptance code philosophy and certification procedures, growing demands for cost-effectiveness and production quality, and the imperative to extend the lifespan of aging structures. Foremost among the challenges faced by producers today is the imperative to meet customer demands, which entails addressing both their explicit and implicit needs. Furthermore, the integration of emerging materials and technologies necessitates the exploration of fresh solutions. These solutions aim to enhance inspection process efficiency while providing precise quantitative insights into defect identification and location. To this end, our project proposes cutting-edge technologies, some of which have yet to gain approval within the sector. Noteworthy among these innovations is the integration of vision systems into welding robots, among other solutions. This paper introduces a groundbreaking algorithm for tool path selection, leveraging profile scanning and the concept of joint symmetry. The application of symmetry principles for trajectory determination represents a pioneering approach within this expansive field.

Abstract:The welding of spatial intersecting curves is widely used in the pressure vessels, in which the welding quality cannot be achieved by traditional methods. To this end, this paper proposes a novel methodology of dual-robot welding for the intersecting pipes by means of motion planning and off-line programming. This method takes advantage of the redundancy of the dual-robot system to obtain alternative paths for the collaborative welding task. Based on the mathematical model of the welding seam, the intersecting curve trajectory of the intersecting pipes is generated through the relevant mathematical theory and the MATLAB programming. The intersecting curve trajectory is decomposed into the welding trajectory and collaborative trajectory, and then imported into the RobotStudio simulation platform. The collaborative welding operation of dual-robot is finally achieved, which verify the effectiveness of the proposed methodology.

Abstract:Purpose This paper aims to automate the welding operation that motion control, sensor integration and coordination with the welding power source. Therefore, there is a need for sophisticated technologies to control precisely the process in terms of positioning the welding torch, and controlling the welding parameters through the use of correct devices which are aided by appropriate control tools and techniques. Design/methodology/approach A new seam tracking methodology, named sewing technique, has been introduced for the welded joints available in computer-aided design (CAD) environment. This methodology gives the seam path by drawing a line through the adjacent centroids of curve fitted in the weld joint volume. Obtained geometric path and kinematic constraints are given as input to the modeled robot for performing welding operation followed by desired trajectory. Findings In this investigation, a novel and efficient weld seam technique has been developed to produce uniform welded joints. The key feature of this approach is that the initial and end positions of the weld seams can be obtained easily. Because of this, the robot can be controlled flexibly during welding operation. Originality/value This investigation deals with the development of an automated seam tracking methodology for the welded joints available in CAD environment. Validation of the developed methodology has been done through simulation results while performing welding operations for different weld profiles.
Kinematics Analysis and Trajectory Planning for a Welding Robot for Girth Welding of Box-Type Steel Structures

Abstract:A straight-arc combined orbital welding robot system was designed for girth welding of box-type steel structures at construction sites. The kinematics analyses used the standard D-H model and the Craig modified D-H model for this welding robot with evluations based on the modeling accuracy and solution process for the welding torch trajectory planning for girth welding of box-type steel structures. The trajectory planning method could adjust for arbitrary spatial position and posture relative to the welding torch with the minimum degrees of freedom. The planning mehtod gave an efficient trajectory for right-angle welding of the box-type steel structure. Simulations show that the welding robot system can provide the girth welding of box-type steel structures and can ajust to various spatial positions and postures.

Abstract:For the automation of lattice type seam welding in building ship, an autonomous mobile robot system is developed in this paper. The robot is composed of two driving wheels, a horizontal torch slider, a vertical torch slider and a rotational arc sensor. Tracking errors are detected by the rotational arc sensor. The kinematics model of the mobile robot is established firstly, and then the moving path of the robot at the corner is planned based on the kinematics mode, and the trajectory and velocity of the welding gun is analyzed. A fuzzy controller based on the planned trajectory and tracking errors is designed. The simulation and experiments have been done to verify the effectiveness of the proposed controller.

Abstract:Automatic narrow-gap arc welding can be used in rail welding.By oscillating and moving the bacilliform welding torch,it can join together the rails by fusing two side walls of groove.While,the swinging torch control is open-loop control,which can lead to the accumulated swing error.In order to decrease the error,a double CCD visual sensor system was used to observe the welding pool for the existing equipments and rail seam arc welding techniques.And then it calculates the position offset and oscillating angle offset of the welding wire can be calculated in real time to control the torch movement.The results show that the proposed method can effectively reduce both the position offset and the oscillating angle offset,and avoid welding defect.

Abstract:The three welding modes of laser positioning, trajectory fitting and real-time tracking are key links for flexible robotic welding, because they directly affect the adaptability of welding robots for complex structural parts. Nevertheless, there are few studies on the integration of laser positioning, trajectory fitting and real-time tracking welding. Aiming at the drawback of that the robot cannot efficiently match the corresponding welding process between different working conditions such as short seam, spatial curve seam and long seam welding, a control scheme that can integrate the above three welding modes is proposed in this paper. First, the welding requirements of laser positioning, trajectory fitting and real-time tracking are transformed into a unified 3D coordinate recognition task for integrated welding, so the identification of welding points under three different processes can be obtained through an identical inference. The next, given the fast inference speed of YOLOv5, a joint ROI extraction algorithm with YOLOv5 as the core is applied. To compensate for YOLOv5′s inability to directly locate seam centers, iterative centerline unbiased detector (ICUD) and adaptive feature extraction algorithm (AFEA) are proposed without the need for complex image pre-processing and with very strong immunity to strong exposure and strong arc spatter. Finally, teaching trajectory correction model, B-spline curve fitting model, and 3D coordinate real-time tracking model are presented to enhance the adaptability of the welding robot and to flexibly match the appropriate welding mode in various working conditions. Experimental results indicate that the welding trajectory is basically consistent with the seam centerline when laser positioning and trajectory fitting welding. In real-time tracking welding, the real-time deviation is mainly controlled within the range of ± 0.2 mm, and the average error is 0.1160 mm.
