Abstract:Based on the methods for cycloolefin copolymers(COC) preparation and their characteristics introduced,the mechanism of carbine catalysts(emphasisly Grubbs' catalyst) for the ring-opening metathetic polymerization(ROMP) and the influences of catalyst's ligands and polymeric conditions on the polymerization rate and product properties are reviewed.Furthermore,the catalysts for hydrogenation of many residual CC in ring-opening products and their properties are also introduced.

Abstract:The discovery of highly active 2,6-bis(imino)pyridyl iron and cobalt complexes provided a milestone of late-transition metal catalysts for ethylene oligomerization and polymerization with being currently investigated for the scale-up process. The crucial problems are remaining in the catalytic systems: the catalytic systems targeting ethylene polymerization produce more oligomers at elevated reaction temperatures, however, there is a recognizable amount of high-molecular-weight polyethylene remained in the modified catalytic system for the oligomerization process. Beyond the modification of bis(imino)pyridyl metal complexes, several alternative procatalysts' models have been developed in our group. This review highlighted the achievements in exploring new iron and cobalt complexes with tridentate NNN ligands as procatalysts for ethylene oligomerization and polymerization.

Abstract:Covalent organic framework (COF) particles with hydroxy groups and well-defined micropores have been synthesized and used as novel carriers to load a metallocene catalyst—Cp2ZrCl2. The resulting supported catalyst, which had a high specific surface area, demonstrated higher catalytic activity, better thermal tolerance, and a unique nanoconfinment effect during ethylene polymerization, producing polyethylene with a higher molecular weight, increased crystallinity, and highly improved mechanical performance. Abstract:In this review,state-of-the-art technology of polyolefin-based elastomer manufacture, including major producers and product trademarks,grades and properties were summarized. Research and developments on production process and catalyst system for the ethylene-propylene binary and ternary rubbers(EPM,EPDM,mEPDM),the poly(ethylene-co-α-olefin) elastomer(POE)and the poly(ethylene-block-α-olefin) elastomer(OBC)were also introduced. It has been pointed out that the thermoplastic elastomer,such as POE and OBC,and the polyolefin plastomer not only had excellent mechanical and physical properties of polyolefin-based elastomer,but also was easy molding and processing,and can be recycled and reused. And the metallocene catalyst had the advantages of high activity,good ability to catalyze copolymerization withα-olefin,and single active site. In order to independently develop the polyolefin-based elastomer,the thermoplastic elastomer and plastomer with more excellent performance and more profitable,such as mEPDM,POE and OBC et al,the researches on the metallocene catalyst with high temperature adaptability and the high temperature solution polymerization process must be strengthened.

Abstract:Polymer-coated particles were used to develop a novel catalyst technology for the production of broad/bimodal polyethylene in a single reactor. The methods for broad/bimodal polyethylene by catalyst technology, such as hybrid catalyst, composite support, and diffusion control, were combined together in this catalyst technology. An improved phase inversion method was used to fabricate poly[styrene-co-(acrylic acid)] (PSA) coated silica particles (SiO2/PSA). Core shell structure was obviously observed in the resulting SiO2/PSA. SiO2/PSA showed a significant barrier effect to the diffusion of 1-hexene and hexane but but no barrier effect to the diffusion of ethylene. This means the PSA layer has a selective barrier effect to the diffusion of small molecules. PSA-coated silica particles were used to support (n-BuCp)(2)ZrCl2/TiCl4, TiCl3/TiCl4, and Cp2ZrCl2/Fe based hybrid catalysts. The ethylene polymerization results indicated that the two different active sites can perform independently, and broad/bimodal polyethylene was obtained by all hybrid catalysts. The polydispersity index of the resulting polyethylene was as high as 18.13, even 44.5. The style of the activity profile was determined by whether the active sites in the core needed a cocatalyst or not.

Abstract:Olefin metathesis has been widely used in the fields of petrochemical industry and organic synthesis. It can be classified as ring-opening metathesis, ring-opening metathesis polymerization, ring-closing metathesis and cross-metathesis, etc. Recent developments in the heterogeneous catalysts for olefin cross-metathesis are Summarized in this review. Much attention has been paid not only to the heterogeneous catalysts based on Re, Mo and W, but also to the effects that may influence the catalyst activity, such as the metal oxidation state, structure and dispersion of the active species, properties of the support and the addition of promoters, etc. The reaction mechanisms and possible deactivation routes are also discussed in detail.

Abstract:Metallocene catalysts form a new generation of catalysts for olefin polymerization after Ziegler-Natta catalysts. Compared with multi-active site catalysts, this kind of single-site catalysts has higher polymerization activity and produces polyolefin with narrower molecular weight distribution and composition distribution. Immobilization of metallocene catalysts on solid supports is an important step toward its industrial application, as it can largely overcome the drawbacks of homogeneous catalysts in controlling nascent polymer morphology. The amount of alkylaluminoxane cocatalyst can also be reduced after immobilization. Thus, research on immobilization of metallocene catalysts is still active in recent years. This paper reviews the progress in immobilization of metallocene cataylsts in recent ten years with emphasis on the morphologies and modifications of supports, immobilization methods of metallocene catalysts, and applications of supported metallocene catalysts. The prospects and development trends on immobilization of metallocene catalysts are also discussed.

Abstract:The current development of the metallocene-based Ziegler-Natta catalysts has been reviewed. The discovery of these catalysts has offered the opportunity to obtain a deeper insight into the mechanism of Ziegler-Natta polymerizations. In this review, some mechanistic models for polymerization and stereoregulation, as well as the factors which affect the activity and stereospecificity of the catalysts, have been discussed. The technology of olefin polymerization with the metallocene-based catalysts is in the early stage of commercialization. Using these catalysts, a large number of novel polymers with special properties have been obtained.

Abstract:50 years ago, Karl Ziegler and Giulio Natta were awarded the Nobel Prize for their discovery of the catalytic polymerization of ethylene and propylene using titanium compounds and aluminum-alkyls as co-catalysts. Polyolefins have grown to become one of the biggest of all produced polymers. New metallocene/methylaluminoxane (MAO) catalysts open the possibility to synthesize polymers with highly defined microstructure, tacticity, and steroregularity, as well as long-chain branched, or blocky copolymers with excellent properties. This improvement in polymerization is possible due to the single active sites available on the metallocene catalysts in contrast to their traditional counterparts. Moreover, these catalysts, half titanocenes/MAO, zirconocenes, and other single site catalysts can control various important parameters, such as co-monomer distribution, molecular weight, molecular weight distribution, molecular architecture, stereo-specificity, degree of linearity, and branching of the polymer. However, in most cases research in this area has reduced academia as olefin polymerization has seen significant advancements in the industries. Therefore, this paper aims to further motivate interest in polyolefin research in academia by highlighting promising and open areas for the future.

Abstract:Organometallic catalysts play an important role in the polymerization of olefins. These catalysts have high catalytic activity with molecular tailoring properties. They are able to tailor the microstructure of the polymer chain by changing functional groups and coordination atoms of ligands, or by alternating electronic and stereoscopic environments of coordination center in catalysts. Molecular design and assembly of catalysts can be achieved at molecular level. New types of polymers with novel structures, morphology, properties and functions can be obtained. Herein, we reviewed the discovery, development, the polymerization characteristics and the most significant recent studies of organometallic catalysts for olefin polymerization.

Abstract:The pursuit of high-performance polyolefin materials has been an objective for chemists. Recently, the development of multinuclear catalysts has significantly enabled the preparation of high-performance polyolefin materials. In this review, we mainly focus on the cooperative effects of multinuclear early transition metal catalysts and provide a comprehensive summary of the research progress in binuclear and multinuclear early transition metal catalysts over the past decade. Compared with the catalytic performance and polymer structure of these catalysts with mononuclear catalysts, we have found that various factors, such as steric hindrance effect, electronic effect, heteroatom effect, hydrogen bonding interaction, the distance between metal centers in multinuclear metal catalysts, and the use of additives, have distinctive and significant impacts on catalyst performance. These effects give rise to notable cooperative effects. This review offers crucial insights and serves as a valuable reference for shaping the future development directions of binuclear and multinuclear early transition metal catalysts.

Abstract:Different meshes powder of polyethylene grafting 4-vinylpyridine copolymers (PEVP) has been produced through the irradiation method. After pretreated with Methylaluminoxane (MAO), the copolymers were used as the supports for Cp2ZrCl2 catalyst. Results of XPS and FTIR measurements show that the catalytic sites have been bridged through MAO on the polyethylene cartier. The percentages of grafting 4-vinylpyridine and supported Cp2ZrCl2 depend on the size of polyethylene powder. The smaller the polyethylene powder, the more percent 4-vinylpyridine group and the Cp2ZrCl2 on the polyethylene chains, and the polyethylene- supported catalyst has a much higher activity for ethylene polymerization.

Abstract:Novel polymerizations based on alkyne monomers are becoming a powerful tool to construct polymers with unique structures and advanced functions in the areas of polymer and material sciences, and scientists have been attracted to develop a variety of novel polymerizations in recent decades. Therein, catalytic systems play an indispensable role in the influence of polymerization efficiencies and the performances of the resultant polymers. Concerning the shortcomings of metallic catalysts, much of the recent research focus has been on metal-free polymerization systems. In this paper, metal-free catalysts are classified and the corresponding polymerizations are reviewed, including organobase-catalyzed polymerizations, Lewis-acid-catalyzed polymerizations, as well as catalyst-free polymerizations. Moreover, the challenges and perspectives in this area are also briefly discussed.

Abstract:The late transition metal catalyst 2,6-bis[1-(2,6-diisopropylphenylimino)ethyllpyridine iron(II) chloride was supported on silica. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electronic micrograph and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy measurements were utilized to examine the process of supporting catalyst on silica and investigate the possible mechanism of support. Furthermore, ethylene polymerizations with the supported catalysts were carried out in various conditions such as different reaction temperatures and Al/Fe molar ratios. The results showed that MAO first reacted with the hydroxyl of silica forming Si-O-Al bonds and then the catalyst was bridged through MAO on the surface of silica. Compared with homogeneous catalysts, the supported catalysts show some decrease in catalyst activity. However, they can show good activity at a lower Al/Fe molar ratio with MAO as co-catalyst and give rise to higher molecular weight and melting temperature of the polymer. Better morphology of polyethylene was obtained by a supported catalyst than by its corresponding homogeneous catalyst. (C), 2002 Society of Chemical Industry.
