Abstract:TianQin is a space science program headed by SUN YAT-SEN University, China. This program is still in its preliminary scheme, which is designed to be a geocentric space-based gravitational-wave observation at an altitude about 10(5)km from the Earth. The in-orbit observation consists of a nominal detection phase and a dormancy phase running alternately. In order to make sure the constellation is able to resume nominal working condition fast in the beginning of detection phase, there is a need for satellites status monitoring and position information collection during the dormancy phase, To satisfy this requirement, GNSS receiver can be treated as a principal sensor with consideration of energy consumption and sunlight influence. However, GNSS signal visibility and received power will be weakened in ultra-high orbit. So, it is a key issue to evaluate the efficiency of GNSS receiver in TianQin dormancy phase. In this paper, GNSS receiver efficiency will be characterized in terms of three parameters, i.e., signal availability, maximum outrage duration and Geometric Dilution of Precision (GDOP) within Space Service Volume (SSV) framework. The study of the first two parameters is based on the official SSV guideline and the GDOP is proposed to make a comprehensive analysis of GNSS receiver efficiency. It's worth mentioning that both single and multi-frequency multi-constellation (MFMC) SSV performances are assessed. The results show the advantages of the combination of all GNSS, where the percentage of at least 4 GNSS satellites signals available simultaneously is up to 94.62 %. The best positioning accuracy is about 123.64 m, which correspond to 1 '' as maximum angle division. The study builds a theoretical foundation for TianQin program design as well as other high-altitude space missions in future.
