Abstract:We introduce the notion of totally reflexive extension of rings. It unifies Gorenstein orders and Frobenius extensions. We prove that for a totally reflexive extension, a module over the extension ring is totally reflexive if and only if its underlying module over the base ring is totally reflexive.

Abstract:This article introduces the notion of an NJ-reflexive ring and demonstrates that it is distinct from the concept of a reflexive ring. The class of NJ-reflexive rings contains the class of semicommutative rings, the class of left (right) quasi-duo rings, and the class of J-clean rings but is strictly larger than these classes. Additionally, the article investigates a sufficient condition for NJ-reflexive rings to be left (right) quasi-duo, as well as some conditions for NJ-reflexive rings to be reduced. It also explores extensions of NJ-reflexive rings and notes that the NJ-reflexive property may not carry over to polynomial extensions.

Abstract:We continue [GbSh:568] (<a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="math.LO/0003164" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/math.LO/0003164">math.LO/0003164</a>), proving a stronger result under the special continuum hypothesis (CH). The original question of Eklof and Mekler related to dual abelian groups. We want to find a particular example of a dual group, which will provide a negative answer to the question. In order to derive a stronger and also more general result we will concentrate on reflexive modules over countable principal ideal domains R. Following <a class="link-external link-http" href="http://H.Bass" rel="external noopener nofollow">this http URL</a>, an R-module G is reflexive if the evaluation map s:G-->G^{**} is an isomorphism. Here G^*=Hom(G,R) denotes the dual group of G. Guided by classical results the question about the existence of a reflexive R-module G of infinite rank with G not cong G+R is natural. We will use a theory of bilinear forms on free R-modules which strengthens our algebraic results in [GbSh:568] (<a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="math.LO/0003164" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/math.LO/0003164">math.LO/0003164</a>). Moreover we want to apply a model theoretic combinatorial theorem from [Sh:e] which allows us to avoid the weak diamond principle. This has the great advantage that the used prediction principle is still similar to the diamond, but holds under CH.

Abstract:We prove a tight connection between reflexive modules over a one-dimensional ring $R$ and its birational extensions that are self-dual as $R$-modules. Consequently, we show that a complete local reduced Arf ring has finitely many indecomposable reflexive modules up to isomorphism, which can be represented precisely by the local rings infinitely near it. We also characterize Arf rings by the property that any reflexive module is self-dual. We give applications on dimension of subcategories and existence of endomorphism rings of small global dimension (non-commutative desingularizations). Our results indicate striking similarities between Arf rings in dimension one and rational singularities in dimension two from representation-theoretic and categorical perspectives.

Abstract:Let S and {iaR} be two associative rings, let S C R be a semidualizing ( S,R )-bimodule. We introduce and investigate properties of the totally reflexive module with respect to S C R and we give a characterization of the class of the totally C R -reflexive modules over any ring R . Moreover, we show that the totally C R -reflexive module with finite projective dimension is exactly the finitely generated projective right R -module. We then study the relations between the class of totally reflexive modules and the Bass class with respect to a semidualizing bimodule. The paper contains several results which are new in the commutative Noetherian setting.

Abstract:In the present paper we investigate reflexive modules over the endomorphism algebras of reflexive trace ideals in a one-dimensional Cohen-Macaulay local ring. The main theorem generalizes both of the results of S. Goto, N. Matsuoka, and T. T. Phuong ( [20, Theorem 5.1] ) and T. Kobayashi ( [30, Theorem 1.3] ) concerning the endomorphism algebra of its maximal ideal. We also explore the question of when the category of reflexive modules is of finite type, i.e., the base ring has only finitely many isomorphism classes of indecomposable reflexive modules. We show that, if the category is of finite type, the ring is analytically unramified and has only finitely many Ulrich ideals. As a consequence, Arf local rings contain only finitely many Ulrich ideals once the normalization is a local ring.

Abstract:We provide a certain direct-sum decomposition of reflexive modules over (one-dimensional) Arf local rings. We also see the equivalence of three notions, say, integrally closed ideals, trace ideals, and reflexive modules of rank one (i.e., divisorial ideals) up to isomorphisms in Arf rings. As an application, we obtain the finiteness of indecomposable reflexive modules, up to isomorphism, for analytically irreducible Arf local rings.

Abstract:Matlis duality for modules over commutative rings gives rise to the notion of Matlis reflexivity. It is shown that Matlis reflexive modules form a Krull-Schmidt category. For noetherian rings the absence of infinite direct sums is a characteristic feature of Matlis reflexivity. This leads to a discussion of objects that are extensions of artinian by noetherian objects. Classifications of Matlis reflexive modules are provided for some small examples.

Abstract:Let R be a commutative ring and C be a semidualizing R-module. For a given class of R-modules Q, we define a class Q(C) by M is an element of Q(C) double left right arrow Hom(R)(C, M) is an element of Q. We prove that if Q subset of A(C)(R) is a Kaplansky class and closed under direct sums, then Q(C)(perpendicular to) is special preenveloping. As corollaries, we can show that P-C(n perpendicular to) and F-C(n perpendicular to) are both special preenveloping. Finally, we show that I-C(n) is covering, I-C(n perpendicular to) is enveloping and special preenveloping provided R is Noetherian.

Abstract:A right ideal I is reflexive if xRy ∈ I implies yRx ∈ I for x, y ∈ R . We shall call a ring R a reflexive ring if aRb = 0 implies bRa = 0 for a, b ∈ R . We study the properties of reflexive rings and related concepts. We first consider basic extensions of reflexive rings. For a reduced iedal I of a ring R , if R/I is reflexive, we show that R is reflexive. We next discuss the reflexivity of some kinds of polynomial rings. For a quasi-Armendariz ring R , it is proved that R is reflexive if and only if R [ x ] is reflexive if and only if R [ x ; x −1 ] is reflexive. For a right Ore ring R with Q its classical right quotient ring, we show that if R is a reflexive ring then Q is also reflexive. Moreover, we characterize weakly reflexive rings which is a weak form of reflexive rings and investigate its properties. Examples are given to show that weakly reflexive rings need not be semicommutative. It is shown that if R is a semicommutative ring, then R [ x ] is weakly reflexive.

Abstract:In this paper, we will introduce a subcategory of totally reflexive modules that have a saturated filtration by other totally reflexive modules. We will prove these are precisely the totally reflexive modules with an upper-triangular presentation matrix. We conclude with an investigation of the ranks of $\operatorname{Ext}^1$ of two such modules over a specific ring.

Abstract:A ring extension is a ring homomorphism preserving identities. In this paper, we give the definitions of relative injective envelopes and relative projective covers of modules on ring extensions, and study their basic properties. In particular, we give their equivalent characterizations in terms of relative essential monomorphisms and relative superfluous epimorphisms, and prove that relative injective envelopes and relative projective covers on ring extensions are unique up to isomorphism whenever they exist. Moreover, for an extension of Artin algebras, we show that every finitely generated module has both a relative injective envelope and a relative projective cover. In addition, we compare relative injective envelopes and relative projective covers on two ring extensions linked by surjective homomorphisms of rings respectively.

An $R$-module $M$ is said to be almost projective if ${\rm Ext}^1_R(M, N) = 0$ for any $R_{\mathfrak{m}}$-module $N$ and any maximal ideal $\mathfrak{m}$ of $R$. In this paper, we investigate rings $R$ over which every $R$-module has an almost projective envelope. We also characterize rings $R$ over which every $R$-module has an almost projective envelope with some special properties.

Abstract:We establish a duality between injective envelopes and flat covers over a commutative Noetherian ring. One case of this duality states that a morphism is an injective envelope, if and only if its Matlis dual is a flat cover. We also show that if we swap injective envelopes and flat covers in this duality, neither implication is true in general.

Abstract:In this paper, we introduce and study the notion of linkage of modules by reflexive homomorphisms. This notion unifies and generalizes several known concepts of linkage of modules and enables us to study the theory of linkage of modules over Cohen-Macaulay rings rather than the more restrictive Gorenstein rings. It is shown that several known results for Gorenstein linkage are still true in the more general case of module linkage over Cohen-Macaulay rings. We also introduce the notion of colinkage of modules and establish an adjoint equivalence between the linked and colinked modules.
