Abstract:Because of chloride ion and long expected service life, concrete structures in a corrosion aggressive environment will suffer to different degrees of corrosion damage, leading to deterioration of seismic performance. It is of a great value to study the load-carrying capacity of corroded reinforced concrete structures. A total of eight specimens were experimentally investigated for the influence of steel corrosion and axial repeated loads on the seismic energy dissipation performance of reinforced concrete pier column. It was demonstrated that reinforced corrosion had significant influence on yield load and ultimate load under horizontal cyclic loading. When corrosion level was low, i.e., less than 4%, the ultimate capacity of load had no obvious difference with that of the reference of the no corrosion specimen. However, ultimate strength decreased significantly when corrosion level was higher. Strains of reinforcement were incompatible with that of concrete due to the corrosion-induced cracks.
