Abstract:Objective To evaluate the methods, clinical outcomes and indications of the percuta-neous kyphoplasty assisted by intraoperative three-dimensional navigation system. Methods Fifteen pa-tients diagnosed as osteoperotic thoracic or/and lumber vertebra compression fracture were included in the present study. Percutaneous kyphoplasty assisted by intraoperative three-dimensional navigation system was adopted in all the 15 cases. Preoperative and postoperative visual analog scale (VAS) scores were compared and radiographic results were investigated. Results All the patients had pain relief and could get up with brace one or two days after operation. The average VAS score was 7.3±0.9 preoperatively and decreased to 3.1±1.2 at 48 hours after operation (P < 0.05). The puncture needle and introducer cannula were precisely placed. No pedicle was broken in the operation. Neither pulmonary embolism nor neurological injury happened at the perioperative period. Conclusions With the guidance of intraoperative three-dimensional navigation system, percutaneous kyphoplasty can be performed more precisely and securely. The navigation system can simplify surgical procedures and reduce radiation exposure or operative complications. Percutaneous kypho-plasty assisted by the navigation system is indicated for the multiple fractures (≥3 vertebra), fractures at the middle and upper thoracic spine, as well as fractures with serious compression or severe osteoporosis.
