Abstract:Liver cancer is the fifth most common cancer worldwide and the third most common cause of cancer mortality. Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), which accounts for 80%-90% of primary liver cancer, is characterized by a poor prognosis and high mortality. A lot of liver cancer therapies exist. For instance, resection, liver transplantation, radiofrequency ablation (RFA), percutaneous ethanol injection therapy (PEIT), percutaneous acetic acid injection therapy (PAIT), transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE), molecular targeted drug (sorafinib), systematical chemotherapy, radiotherapy and Chinese traditional medicine, and so on. About liver cancer staging and treatment options in our country, the most commonly used method is multi-disciplinary comprehensive treatment of liver cancer model or BCLC. It's worth noting that each treatment has its indications, and various treatment methods have their side effects. In addition, most patients with liver cancer have chronic hepatitis and liver cirrhosis background. This requests us to keep the balance between destruction of tumor and protection of the body, and to use the ‘two-edged sword’ of anti-tumor therapies properly. The sole purpose of treatment for the liver cancer patients is to prolong survival.
