Abstract:Objective To investigate the effect of treating displaced midshaft clavicular fracture with universal reconstruction ribbon plates. Methods Sixty-three patients with displaced midshaft clavicular fracture were treated with reconstruction ribbon plates from May 2005 to May 2007. The ages ranged from 16 to 73 years, with an average of 51.4 years. All clavicular fractures were fresh closed fractures. According to the Robinson Classification, 3 were 2A2, 35 were 2B1 and 25 were 2B2. Results The follow-up time was from 6 to 18 months (average 14 months). All the fractures healed from 2 to 5 months (average 3 months). No complications, such as nonunion and infection as well as plate failure were observed. The shoulder function were measured with the DASH (Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder and Hand) patient questionnaire. The score was from 15 to 44 points ( average 20. 4 ) at 6 months follow- up, and from 9 to 28 points ( average 11.4 ) at 12 months. Conclusions Open reduction and internal fixation with reconstruction ribbon plates is an effective method for treating displaced midshaft cervical facture.
