Abstract:Objective To assess the effects of individualized cognitive behavioral therapy on improving resilience in postoperative breast cancer patients with chemotherapy. Methods A total of 69 patients with breast cancer underwent surgery and prepared for chemotherapy were randomly divided into control group and experimental group. All the patients conducted the Chinese version Connor-Davidson resilience scale ( CD-RISC) before the first chemotherapy, and the results were used as the baseline data. The patients of control group received routine health instruction, while the patients of experimental group received additional individualized cognitive behavioral therapy based on the routine health instruction. The changes of resilience were compared between two groups at the beginning of the 6th chemotherapy. Results The baseline data had no statistical difference between the two groups before intervention and the experimental group completed (2. 78 ± 0. 87 ) interventions per day. The most frequently intervention methods used including: relaxation training, music therapy and aerobic exercise. After interventions, the resilience scores of both groups were significantly improved for total score and each dimensions of psychological resilience (P <0. 01). Experimental group showed a more significant increase compared with control group ( P < 0. 01 ) except for the detention of optimism. Conclusions The patients show a good compliance to individualized cognitive behavioral therapy. The individualized cognitive behavioral therapy can effectively enhance the resilience level of breast cancer patients receiving postoperative chemotherapy.
