Abstract:Roller burnishing process is being extensively used to enhance the fatigue life of the aircraft engine components by introducing compressive residual stress and work hardening. The temperature rise during the burnishing process could be neglected due to the low friction rolling contact between the roller and workpiece, thus simplifying it an elastoplastic deformation process. In this paper, the digital image correlation technique was adopted to obtain the subsurface deformation field during the roller burnishing process. A 3D finite element model was built up to simulate the burnishing process. The predicted surface integrity parameters including subsurface deformation and residual stress are compared with the experimental measurements.
